This 4th remake of the classic is about a young star on the rise (Lady Gaga), while her lover (Bradley Cooper) is failing. More importantly, it's their love story is a beautiful combination of perfect chemistry and wonderful performances. Gaga is astounding with charisma and subtlety that's continually captivating. Of course, her singing (done live) is spectacular (the song's are strong too). This is probably Cooper's best performance, he lays out his character with magnetism and raw emotion. Being an accomplished actor pays off when it came to Cooper directing the film. Not only has he elicited poignant moments from every member of the cast (with lots of lingering closeups), he's skillfully created an appealing narrative (the strong script helps). My only complaint is that the ending, although sad, didn't move me. Otherwise, this film features 2 wonderfully-compelling performances in a truly touching love story.… Expand

It is another remake of original musical drama made in 1938 with the same name. Lucky me I haven't seen any of those remakes. That could spoil the great impression the movie made on me. And for Bradly Cooper, who plays one of the two protagonists, and plays it well, this is his directorial debut. Wow, what a great debut!

The movie is longer than two hours but there is a lot of very good music in it, so it did not feel too long.
Every time Lady Gaga sang, I could feel an emotional response not only in myself but in all the audience in the theater.

I think this is one of the very best movies I've seen this year and definitely Oscar material in many categories.… Expand

Cooper and Gaga have really good chemistry in this movie. I felt like they were actually in love. The characters were fantastic and no good movie gets by with subpar characters. This movie develops them pretty well. The songs are amazing. This is the first time I've felt compelled to rush out and buy the soundtrack. There's lots of original songs, which some were written by Willy Nelson's son. They're all fantastic. Bradley Cooper could probably pass as a musician in real life. He's certainly a hell of a director. The concert scenes are so immersive that you feel like you're there. Don't count on a happy ending. As inspiring as the movie is, you'll leave the theater quiet and go home and turn on a Disney movie to balance it out. One of the saddest movies since Marley and Me.… Expand

Sure the overarching concept is the same: complicated romance between rising female star and her burnout boyfriend, BUT Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga have createdA STAR IS BORN - Did we really need a fourth version of "A Star Is Born"? Yes! Sure the overarching concept is the same: complicated romance between rising female star and her burnout boyfriend, BUT Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga have created an epic love story that sizzles with chemistry.

Cooper captures mood beautifully in his first go as a film director. The concert scenes are fantastically staged and romance entirely believable. Gaga is excellent, but Cooper really commands the screen... and can sing! Supporting cast includes Sam Elliott, Dave Chappelle and Andrew Dice Clay (who's quite convincing as Gaga's father).

I love the soundtrack! A great mix of rock, pop and country songs written by Gaga, Cooper & Lukas Nelson (Willie's son). "I'll Never Love Again" feels a cross between 1977's "Evergreen" and 1980's "The Rose" - and seems destined to win this year's Oscar for Best Original Song. Other standouts are "Shallow", "I Don't Know What Love Is" "Before I Cry" and "Always Remember Us This Way".

My only quibble might be the film's length. At 2:15, it felt a tad long, but any cuts might have sacrificed a song or two - and there's frankly really nothing I would remove.… Expand

This film is the best film I’ve seen in years. Ignore all the NEGATIVE reviews that are rated ‘3’ or under. Most of them are written by Gaga haters and Madonna fans. The reviews are biased and have been harshly posted to bring down the score.This film is the best film I’ve seen in years. Ignore all the NEGATIVE reviews that are rated ‘3’ or under. Anything under ‘7’ is also not credible, as this film is the real deal. From someone who watches a lot of quality cinema.
It’s touching, moving, emotional, well-directed (especially for a directorial debut), has decent cinematography (the red and green colours used and the camera work), a great supporting cast, and great writing. Bradley and Gaga are at least on lock for at least a ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ nomination; which is huge for Gaga, being a debut role. She’ll be the first mainstream singer-come-actress to succeed in a film career, since Cher over 30 years ago. It doesn’t happen often. Madonna couldn’t do it, nor could Rihanna , Mariah or Beyonce, and the others. Gaga is indeed a revelation in this film. She performs beautifully, with a nuanced vulnerability that I preferred to her peers’ acting in 2018, that will allow her to go head-to-head with Glenn Close and Olivia Coleman at the Oscars in 2019. May the best woman win.
From all the male contenders I’ve seen this year, Bradley deserves that Best Actor win, in my opinion, but it appears to be going to Ethan Hawke instead. We shall see!

This version is less focused in the female and more on the male character. I’d say a 60:40 ratio. Don’t go in to the film with high expectations. Don’t pay any attention to the minority of film critics or the general public discrediting the film for being a ‘remake’. Many of you may not have even seen the other versions, so why does it matter? I’ve seen the 1954/1976 versions and all three are different from the other, in their own ways. Barbra’s was dreary and lacked chemistry, Judy’s was actually pretty captivating.
This new version is a fresh take on a timeless love story, but is also different from the others. The addiction is depicted more far more realistically here and the famous finale is 10x more emotional than previous versions. The final shot of the film and how it blacks out to the film credits was just breath-taking. The soundtrack is amazing. The standouts for me are: ‘Is That Alright?’ (screams wedding song and deserved better exposure than being played in the film credits) and ‘Look What I Found’. This film will sweep up the Golden Globes and I have high hopes for the Oscars next year.… Expand

A Star is Born is beautiful, charismatic, smart, and somewhat a real tearjerker that says each and every obstacle can be broken when someone special is there to make that person born as a star and it's literally amazing all around. Lady Gaga killed this role without a doubt. Each and every scene that she was in is what made this movie very special to watch especially of how emotionally flawed the characters are when reaching to superstar status. There is hope that she’ll win that Oscar though in 2019. Also, to first time director and veteran comedy actor Bradley Cooper, astonishingly nailed the direction and tone of this movie and the absolute result of it is mind-blowing compared to a Darren Aronofsky film. Plus, he even brought his own dog into the mix! The technical side of this film such as the eyegasmic cinematography by Aronofsky’s right-hand man, Matthew Labitique, nailed the look on everything which made the tension and tone of this film satisfying to watch compared to Roger Deakins. And so is to veteran screenwriter behind Forrest Gump, Eric Roth, and the production team behind it. Everything in this film has done right, and this film is at the emotional heights of Titanic and honestly, it's amazing. First off, the acting in this movie. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper had great chemistry in this film. Of course, everybody at this point knows that Cooper's a great actor, but not a lot of people know that Lady Gaga is a fantastic actress asFirst off, the acting in this movie. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper had great chemistry in this film. Of course, everybody at this point knows that Cooper's a great actor, but not a lot of people know that Lady Gaga is a fantastic actress as well and it shows in this movie. She deserves to be nominated for —hell, she should win— an academy award. She came across so genuine and like a real person that you can relate to. In every scene, she stole it. Bradley Cooper just turned himself into Jackson. He took voice lessons to work on his singing and he learned to play guitar. Bradley Cooper also directed this movie. It’s his first time and it doesn’t show. His directing in this movie seemed so professional like Krasinski, and I hope he keeps directing. Now, this film is a musical, and the music in this film is fantastic. I love all the songs in this film. The lyrics and tone were both meaningful to what was happening in the movie. When a scene was sad the song would be sad along with it. The Cinematography in this film was also stunning. The lighting, like the music, helped set the tone of each scene. If it was going to be crazy the lighting was more intense but it was calm the lighting was calmer. The last thing I want to talk about is the realistic relationship between the two main characters. It doesn’t show a constant happy couple but shows how couples go through ups and downs but stick together no matter what. In the end, “A Star is Born” is a great movie that you should check out.… Expand

An Amazing film! I loved the cinematography and the way Bradley cooper used light in the film, though i do think the second half of the film should have focused on Ally a bit more. + if Lady GaGa doesn't win an Oscar i'm going to riot.

Crap! Overrated, Gaga cannot act. It’s one long music video. Would have been more interesting from just Bradley Cooper’s characters point of view.
Side eyeing all the praise. Just watch it on Netflix if you’re curious!

wow. Bradley did such an amazing job at storytelling. They way the camera flows and how it captures the characters face expression with that close shots, it's just simply magic. A Star is Born plucks at your heart strings – then it snaps them. The movie, just running over two hours, feels the perfect length. Even though the story is somewhat dated [this film is the remake of a remake of a remake], it’s clear thatA Star is Born plucks at your heart strings – then it snaps them. The movie, just running over two hours, feels the perfect length. Even though the story is somewhat dated [this film is the remake of a remake of a remake], it’s clear that the classic Hollywood storyline can still work when done right. Gaga and Cooper’s chemistry is unmatchable against any film released for a very long time. For me, the contrast in pace between the first and second half allows us to really focus on the second half - to the best portrayal of alcoholism I have ever seen depicted in a film.
The film really is brilliant. Gaga and Cooper are both glistening stars. An instant classic.… Expand

I loved the humor in the movie. A Star Is Born is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking movies I have ever seen. Bradley Cooper's direction was fantastic. The screenplay, production, and cinematography was great. The leading performances from Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were stupendous and breathtaking. The supporting cast gave stellar performances as well especially Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, Anthony Ramos, and Dave Chappelle. This is by far Bradley Cooper's best acting performances so far in his career and for this being Lady Gaga's first leading performance in a movie it was magnificent. The chemistry between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was amazing. The musical numbers were done fantastically. The soundtrack and all the music featured in the movie was spectacular. The soundtrack for the movie is my favorite movie soundtrack ever and one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. Also the makeup and hair were splendid. A+.… Expand

A Star Is Born is an amazing film: that's my initial reaction walking out of the theater (to the inquiring staff member). The story develops on film so well. The acting is solid and feels so true. The music is good too. From the beginning ofA Star Is Born is an amazing film: that's my initial reaction walking out of the theater (to the inquiring staff member). The story develops on film so well. The acting is solid and feels so true. The music is good too. From the beginning of the film, the audience is constantly receives humanizing messages.
There are so many great points in the film i.e. the story of Jackson Maine's, played by Bradley Cooper, upbringing reflecting his life habits. House issues are terrible. The idea of home is one that only grows fonder as one becomes older and more aware of the realms of life. To not have an idea of the way(s) one wants their home ideally may be problematic and crippling for certain individuals. I don't even call my mom's home my house especially since ideally I don't really know (to not be honest would be rude) and don't want to know her idea of home. I've been living with her for a long time already and I don't consider the conditions I'm living with as home.
Substance Abuse is so affecting and sad. Ultimately, decisions to change are reliant on the abusing person. At the beginning and end of days, there are people that choose circumstances that harm them and others around them without a care beyond their well-being i.e. their crippling attitudes, behaviors, and mentalities.
Love and relationships are indescribable and varying. Shout out to everyone experiencing them in fun, meaningful, and uplifting ways.

Overall Grade: A+

Watching it in a Dolby Digital theater gave the movie a true concert feel. I highly recommend that if possible you go see it in a theater with Dolby Digital sound. It feels like you have a backstage, All Access pass to a great concert. When Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga take the stage as seasoned rocker Jackson Maine and Ally the concert is electric and palpable! The chemistry between the two lead actors is amazing and feels real. You find yourself cheering for them both. Oscarworthy performances are everywhere in this movie! Gravel voiced veteran actor Sam Elliott shines as Jackson's brother. Andrew Dice Clay also gives an acting performance that the Academy should and hopefully will take note of. Comic Dave Chappelle is amazing playing a low key buddy. Both Lady Gaga and Copper deserve consideration for Best leading actors for their performances. This is the kind of movie you want to watch again and discuss with friends.
