This sequel continues the themes, tone and character developments for the family with the addition of Cillian Murphy's character who is also exceptional in this. The movie has tension but not quite on the level of scenes from the first movie. This movie has emotional moments, also not as deep as the first movie. But these scenes of tension and emotion are included and they are done fairly well. By far, Millicent and Cillian are the stand outs in this film. They both carry the emotion of the movie and have the most tense scenes. Overall, just a solid film. And to think a sequel for a horror movie is good comes a long way in film history. The sequel, like is often the case, lacks the surprise of the original, while maintaining some of the suspense. It takes up after the first one with what’s left of their family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) travelling outside their safe area to survive. This leads them to new people and new adventures, while still eluding the extremely lethal, blind aliens. Most of the quick frights come early, then things settle down into more predictable encounters. There’s still plenty of anxiety and the performances are effective, but the overall effect is not as riveting. Still, it’s most involving on the big screen. Expand

Following a short epilogue taking us back to the origins of the alien species arrival on Earth, A Quiet Place Part II continues on directly from the original movie with the surviving members of the Abbott family having to leave the farmFollowing a short epilogue taking us back to the origins of the alien species arrival on Earth, A Quiet Place Part II continues on directly from the original movie with the surviving members of the Abbott family having to leave the farm they’ve called home for the last year.

The first movie took an intriguing premise and delivered an effective, if slightly unevenly paced horror movie. This sequel certainly ups the pace, but in the process it tries to fit a little too much into an hour and a half with many ideas being underdeveloped leading to a rather abrupt ending. Despite these issues the formula still makes for a relatively entertaining watch with a number of very effective and tense scenes, and it seems to set things up for a third movie to end the trilogy.

A Quiet Place Part II knows what it can explore, but it also has limitations that expose many of its weaknesses.

From the outset, the narrative resource of the first film could not be explored in the same way again, because given that the characters finally have something with which they can defend themselves, the structure of the story changed.
However the way in which Krasinski expands the story feels more like an expansion of a video game, rather than a more complete film, if you know what I mean.

The tension and emotion still exist, and Krasinski manages to conduct them quite well, but he builds a climax that feels significantly forced, because he seems more interested in the comings and goings of the characters, so they can be in dangerous situations, instead of creating something more interesting or challenging.

And unfortunately Krasinski ends the story suddenly again, but here feels a bit shameless because it's remarkably evident that this was made in order to prepare an inevitable third part.
It seems that he got more excited about that, than about focusing on making this sequel more rewarding.

I can't say I'm disappointed because I was entertained, but certainly this sequel was a watered-down experience compared to its predecessor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

you gave this movie 90%+ ratings on rotten tomatoes... you re giving here an 8/10...

the movie standards have sunk so low, they ve now reached the core of the Earth.

Predictable, cliched, unimaginative, un-stylized, flat, non-sensical (oh my god, it was so non-sensical so many times). It was Boring. Even had bad CGI.

Utterly average (below-average actually). A boring drag even at 90'.

Clearly a forced sequel. Clearly everyone has a soft-spot for Krasinski/Blunt couple, and their romantic movie-making getaways. I have no problem with that. Just do not rate this movie as if a masterpiece because they re cute together.

It really is amazing everyone (critics and audience) gave it 90%+. That's what baffles me. Astounding.

I recommend watching the movie to witness just how low we ve become with our standards culture-wise. 90%+ is essentially insane. Only children who have never seen any movies would seriously rate this 90%+. Just wow.

Let’s just*shhhhhhhhh* This is a quiet place to enjoy a movie review. *Yelling* But that’s not really our style here at Stream To Big Screen is it?! *Normal tone* Well, this week we were able to watch the long awaited A Quiet Place Part II. Let’s just remind you of our movie review archive page and our review of Part I that occurred on Facebook. A Quiet Place: “…. Wait for tv/netflix… 6.” Simple and straight to the point. Let’s see what Part II has for us.

Just a reminder from A Quiet Place, this movie is about a family trying to survive in a world infested with aliens that find people through their extreme eardrums – I mean, their enhanced aural capabilities. Thus, the world has become a quiet place where any sound could get you killed. If you haven’t seen the first part, I’d recommend watching it before checking this flick out. Do you need to? I actually don’t think so and, in fact, that’s probably my biggest knock to Part II. Question… why didn’t they just live by the waterfall again? Oh that makes too much sense? Nevermind and I digress.

Let’s fast forward to Part II where the movie starts with how it all began, which is something we didn’t see in the first part. Then, we speed to where the first part left off and it’s like why the heck didn’t we just make the first part a little bit longer of a movie and combine to the two films. The first film lasted about 1 hour and 25 minutes. This movie ran for 1 hour and 28 minutes. WHY IN THE WORLD DID JOHN KRASINSKI NOT JUST COMBINE THESE TWO MOVIES?! Yes, the movie would’ve be about 2 hours and 15 to 27 minutes with edits, but it would’ve been one complete film. That just would have made more sense. Instead, it seems like these production companies went for the easy money grab and split the film into two. “Jim Halpert” was like let me get my wife paid again for this role and I’m not mad at it. After watching Part II, I couldn’t help but say combining this with the first part just makes for a better and more complete movie. I feel Part II is too long for a short movie and that’s no bueno. I’m not even saying it’s bad. It just drags on and could be wrapped up nice and tight like a formulaic “Law and Order: SVU” episode. You know exactly how this movie is going to go from the trailer and that’s the next disappointing part of the movie. Nothing unexpected occurs. Not a single thing. “Jim” literally took the dystopian, zombie world, alien we-need-to-find-an-answer-to-fight-back playbook and put it in here. I knew I shouldn’t have expected much from watching the first flick but finally being able to go back to theaters to watch movies has me hopeful. I shouldn’t have been. Just like the first part, the movie was extremely quiet and anxiety filled. The commercial and trailer make the movie feel way more intense than it really is. As tense as this movie is, the lack of sound actually makes the film also very peaceful to watch. It’s a strange combination for a “horror/drama”. Overall the cast as a whole does a solid job, but there really isn’t much to do being quiet. I feel their pain, especially my guy Noah Jupe, as Marcus Abbott. It’s just not enough.

A Quiet Place Part II is just like the first one, a perfect streaming film. I’m surprised this movie didn’t premiere on Paramount+ because it would’ve fit perfectly after streaming the first part right before – and they could get more subscribers. Part II is quiet and full of anxiety but drags on and should’ve just been combined with the first film. Nothing of note really occurs in this movie to wow a viewer or make them flock to the theater. A Quiet Place Part II just like the first is a handful of popcorn, perfect for streaming. If you want to get out and support the movie theaters, like I do, or really enjoyed Part I, check this out in the matinee hours ONLY.

Previews and end credits pad a sub 90 minute movie. Looked good to watch but what mechanical items work and don't work in a destroyed world make little sense. Also everyone looks apocalyptic except Emily Blunt with a mostly clean sundress and makeup. Would say that Cillian does a ton with what he's given to work with.

No spoilers but it's like they watched Children of Men and at least one Cloverfield and knocked out the script in a weekend. Can't recommend.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Waited years for this movie, TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. They walk around in constant fear and death and all along they have the secret weapon and don't use it.

It's like watching Rambo get beat up and tortured and he has a loaded machine gun in his hands. I found myself thinking through out the whole movie, use it, use it, use the secret weapon. The story is all wrong, they could have gone a different path liberating from town to town and explored the looters and evil survivors angle further. This could have been a great time to bring back the father too, to lead them. Also The hidden message in the radio transmission why hidden? So the aliens don't know what it is? Why don't just broadcast words? We weren't told the aliens understood the language, they seem very primitive and very basic and savage.

Truth be told, I wasn't all that thrilled with the first film like most others seemed to be, mostly cause I felt as though the concept/idea was a clever one that could've been expanded upon so much better, not to mention the abrupt copout ending (although this is before we all knew a sequel would be made). So once this film was announced, I was skeptical but hopeful that they'd build upon the world and premise of the first film in an effective way, and while there's some interesting moments and truly tense scenes throughout, the ground treaded here still felt a little too pedestrian for my liking. There isn't a whole lot in the way of concept/story development, and I was hoping for a little bit more story/background behind why the aliens came to earth in the first place than what was shown in the film's opening flashback sequence. On the plus side however, the cast does an amazing job here, with John Krazinski once again taking directing and acting duties alongside real-life wife Emily Blunt, who gives another stellar performance just as she did in the first film. Their children (played by Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds) also once again stand out with their performances, and newcomer CIllian Murphy damn near steals the show with his excellent performance. And once again, my biggest gripe with these films is their abrupt cliffhanger endings, and that's the case here with this film unfortunately, but overall, the film is slightly more tense than the first, perfectly acted, but doesn't do much to build upon the premise/concept with the exception of a few clever moments. Fans of the first definitely won't be disappointed though Expand

Spolierish, but barely or not really. So don't read if you haven't seen the movie, just in case.

To me, this gets a 2/10. Most of the jump scares were predictable. And there was no point to this movie. The trailer made it seem like there was one though when Evelyn Abbott said that there are people worth saving. So it seemed like this movie was going to have a mission. Like about them saving people, or trying to, but that never happened. Nothing close to it. Instead, things actually got worse. And you would think after the damage Regan and Emmett caused that they would go back to check on the "paradise," but nope. It just ends after Regan "becomes a hero."

And sure, young kids are stupid and will explore places even when they know it might be dangerous, but the son going off on his own, leaving a baby, and walking around when there are freaking super deadly monsters around, was so damn dumb. No kid would be that stupid. And then after it was all done, Regan never tells his mom what happened and she never asked about it. So damn dumb too. In the end this is basically the exact same movie as the first. Might as well call it A Quiet Place: Part II The Force Awakens.

I am so glad they saved it for the theaters instead of home streaming or selfishly pushing it during COVID. What a completely immersive, beautiful, emotionally and sensationally overwhelming film. It is a perfect continuation from the first film and might even be better (it is definitely at least equal, which is an amazing accomplishment in itself). Certain characters from the first are definitely missed, but Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou are wonderful additions. This is, however, completely Millicent Simmonds film and I can't tell you how amazing it is to see not only positive disability representation, but an empowered, multi-dimensional female lead. Krasinski wrote an incredible character and cast an incredible actor. He didn't cheapen her at all like most big studio scifi/horror movies do by saddling her with a love interest or making her either overly weak/helpless or irrationally suddenly a superhuman killing machine. The final scene is so moving and complete with her character development. I would welcome a Part III or other movie in this universe, but if it ended here, I would be just as happy. Bravo to Krasinski, who proves himself to be a brilliant writer/director (and much more than a paper salesman), the entire fantastic cast, picture and sound editors, and cinematographer. I hope there is some awards love at the end of the year for all of the above, especially Millie, Krasinski, and those who did the sound mixing/editing. And 1000% this is a great Cillian movie! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A good movie that expands the themes of the first one. Using silence incredibly effectively is the name of the game...sometimes you can hear a pin drop, it's eery and masterfully done. The terror of not being able to make a sound really comes across. I also felt the character behaved like most people would in their situation and gave the movie a feeling of relatability. The ending was powerful and obviously left room for more... Expand

Additionally, Krasinski's way of highlighting key items and dialogue that become significant later on in the film are clear signs that story elements shall not go to waste with him as the director. Without the audience knowing it, certain objects in the environment introduce some traits of Cillian Murphy's character before the family realizes who he is. There are many times throughout A Quiet Place Part II that the immediate motive of a character is unknown, and the only way of finding out is to keep watching. The classic storytelling guideline: "Show, don't tell" comes to mind here a lot. However, it reasonable to argue that a few too many questions went unanswered. For example: in the process of running and hiding, why doesn't all that noise attract more attention from others? That aspect seems inconsistent with the sound sensitivity in Part I. Then, at the ending, only the immediate problems had been solved, but the credits roll before the emotional payoff. This series leaves you, again, with your own imagination of what happens next. While some of the scary elements that made the first installment work are repeated somewhat frequently here, they nevertheless still deliver the frights well, something difficult to achieve in horror sequels (especially in smart horror offerings). And, despite some sluggish pacing at the start of the second act, writer-actor-director John Krasinski manages to build and hold the story's tension remarkably effectively, particularly in several sequences where multiple plot lines unfold simultaneously. The filmmaker also manages to coax fine performances out of his cast, especially the picture's younger players, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. To be sure, the film does have a few plot holes, and the final sequence -- though gripping -- feels incomplete, obviously setting up the premise for yet another sequel in the franchise. However, on balance, this is a riveting, rollicking summer rollercoaster ride well worth the time -- and the spilt popcorn. Expand

I remember 15 months ago I was eagerly anticipating the release of the sequel to the highly successful horror movie A Quiet Place written and directed by John Krasinski. Initially it was difficult to see how a sequel would work without just being a repeat of what we’ve seen before. I’ve seen enough horror movies to know that not all franchises benefit from mindless sequels just for the sake of money. After a long 15 months of waiting, lockdowns and more lockdowns I’m was finally able to sit in an actual cinema to see A Quiet Place Part II and I’m delighted to say that it’s a worthy sequel on par with its predecessor.

A Quiet Place Part II begins with a flashback sequence and then picks up immediately after the events of the first film, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds & Noah Jupe) must now continue their fight for survival in a world of silence. Forced to leave their home they must now journey into the unknown with the threat of the creatures that hunt by sound. By now we know the importance of silence in this film and how it’s used to build the tension. From the opening scene to the end credits you’ll be holding your breath, unable to relax as the tension builds. Everything from the score and the use of sound is effective in making you jump out of your skin. The frights just keep on coming and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Make no mistake this is the type of movie that cinemas thrive on. A Quiet Place Part II develops the characters from the first movie and throws in none other than Cillian Murphy to the cast. He gives a terrific performance and was a great choice to join the rest of the cast. It’s clear that A Quiet Place I & II are in the hands of someone who understands what makes a good horror movie. Great characters with a story so intense you’ll barely be able to breathe. The tension builds and builds to a third act that thankfully doesn’t fall apart. I did not expect the sequel to be this good and it’s looking very likely that a third movie is in the works and if there’s a good story and John Krasinski is directing then I’m totally onboard for A Quiet Place trilogy.

There’s really nothing like the feeling of watching a film in a cinema. It’s an experience I’ve greatly missed and online streaming sites can only do so much. Certain movies are just meant to be seen on the silver screen and A Quiet Place II is definitely one of them. Home viewing just wouldn’t be the same. So horror fans it’s time to get back to it if you haven’t already, enjoy the magic of cinema with a truly brilliant horror/thriller. Highly recommended.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pretty slow and boring really. Also hate the way the guy from the first film is made out to be some shining example of bravery and masculinity too. At one point poor Peaky Blinders gets told he's nothing like him. Yeah sure the guy was cool but let's not make other men feel emasculated when actually they're doing pretty well surviving and maybe he just doesn't wanna look after your noisy a!*es.
Blunt's daughter decides to go on some suicide mission without even asking or saying goodbye to her mum, that's nice. They lead a monster out to the island with them anyway and get everyone butchered. These films are so over hyped for what they are, in my opinion.

Since 2000, implacable monsters--in both movies and video games--now reflect our nightmare fear of soulless Capitalism; since 2000, doing its best every day:
- to destroy humanity, - to destroy the environment,
- to destroy Earth; or at least, turn it in to a prison planet.
Run-amuck Capitalism is the NEW monster whose name we dare not speak. The invisible elephant in the living room we dare not discuss for fear of "ruining everything."

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie might be quite silent, but I certainly wasn't while watching it. Rarely have I found myself be so annoyed with the characters in a movie. The boy is just a useless wimp who can't even commit to the simplest tasks. And he screams - a lot! You might argue that most people would, if they had a bear-trap clamp up around their foot. But I would counter-argue that if the life of your entire family was on the line when it happened, you would at least try to keep the screaming to a minimum. But noooo - this guys screams from the top of his lungs for as long as he can until someone finally shuts him up.

And a baby in a box with an oxygen mask? What the hell!? I realize that the baby was probably a carry-over "character" from the previous movie (which I haven't seen). But believing they survived for several hundred days out and about with a baby? No... Unless they kept the baby in the box 99% of the time, which is just not something I want to think about. It's a friggin' coffin!

But i digress. I wish the movie did something to explain the monsters or their constant need to kill things that make noise for seemingly no reason other than just to terminate other lifeforms.
And why can they jump around like crazy like acrobats, but still not see moving targets? Nothing makes sense. It seems to me like they are able to see very well the world around them. But they can't detect moving lifeforms unless they make noise? I don't buy it. It's a paper-thin premise and I am too logically thinking to do a complete suspension of disbelief.

The only cool thing about this movie is the girl and "new dad". And somewhat intelligent editing that lines up several shots to synchronize the stuff that moves the plot forward.

The last thing I have to complain about, is the "evil other humans" they meet at the dock. Why are they evil? What do they gain by attacking "new dad" and girl? NOTHING! There's no reason other than them "looking evil" so they must be maniacs. Well, in that case, they probably wouldn't have survived that long, right?

Ugh... What a horribly plain movie.

This is because the general goodwill toward Krasinski along with the desire to get people in theaters causes critic reviews to downplay the fact this film is a significant disappointment. Without the novelty of the first film's premise, A Quiet Place Part II becomes another one of those sci-fi horror films where characters seem to lose all critical thinking skills and take unnecessarily dangerous, often downright stupid risks. One of those where you constantly find yourself asking, "Why did they *do* that?"

This is all the more striking when you consider the first film centered on characters using ingenuity and -wise- decision-making to stay alive. Now they seem to know they are in a horror movie where tension and jump-scares are expected and, well, a character's gotta do what a character's gotta do. The characters themselves are still appealing, except for the new addition who takes Krasinski's place as Pensive Bearded Man. He is given so little context that none of his actions make much sense at all. Krasinski also feels obliged to have some characters utter a few clunky, pandering Deep Thoughts. As an entertaining albeit overly solemn horror film, Part II delivers on the jump scares, tension, and pretty landscapes and cinematography. The first film established a relatable, strangely cozy world with some very specific parameters. By the end of that film, those parameters were already beginning to hem in the plot. In the second film, those parameters can't hold up past the pre-credits scene. It seems A Quiet Place is destined to become just another horror franchise.

It was entertaining enough, but it was way too close to the first one in pacing and doesn’t have the courage to bring any real closure to the story. You know, just incase it’s also a surprise hit. I can’t wait for part III, “A Quiet Place In Space Where It Doesn’t Matter If You Scream Because, Well No One Can Hear You…” There were some interesting parts to the story, but I could see plot turns coming. Everything was telegraphed this time. The worst part for me was the opening sequence. I just didn’t care what was happening “then” after having already watched the first movie. It’s mostly only there to setup an introduction to a new character and the more I thought about it the less I cared for the extra back story. It’s not as interesting as what’s happening “now.” That opening is also Shyamalan-esque in it’s film making wankoffery, i.e the way it’s shot to draw out the mundane so that we can remember what our actual moment to moment lives are like…while watching it represented on film. If you saw the first one and wouldn’t mind a little more of the same then you might enjoy this. I didn’t think that there was enough to get out of it personally so I can’t recommend it otherwise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Meh. Nothing new really happens in this mediocre sequel. Still looks great and no issues with acting or directing, but the plot is a non-starter for me. If there's a third they should go much bigger, and this should have been the bridge to that. Instead we just get more of an epilogue to the first movie.

The deaf girl in this new world premise (not to mention the friction between her father in the first installment), is still stale to me. It's nonsensical that a deaf girl would be able to survive in a world with monsters that have super hearing. That was a plot hole for me in the first one. Along with that, this contrived conflict with her parents over the obvious disadvantage she has. I get the gist that there's a subtext about enabling people with limitations, but this is the worst one they could pick. Maybe a girl on the spectrum would have been better. That could have been an advantage to her in this world.

And why does every post-apocalyptic universe portray humanity as resorting to savages when the walls come down? There always seems to be more **** left than cool people? Walking Dead was the same. Maybe disasters weed all the **** out. And why didn't they just take the boats out? Instead of that elaborate trap. Seems like they would have to watch it all the time. That would explain why they looked so dirty.

I didn't get why the son decided to go exploring, what with an injury so bad his mother risked a pharmacy run either. Again, contrived just to set up the dual, "kids beat the monsters" ending.

A bit disappointing tbh. I went in with a lot of generosity from the first one, whose plot holes I was willing to overlook because the story was so good. It wore off quickly and I honestly got bored.

I still.look forward to more movies from John Krasinski, but I hope they're better than this.

I like the way they got Cillion Murphy's character in, but I'm not sure why he hadn't just sought out his friends.

It's not as though I'm "unimpressed" per se, but I'm certainly not blown away in any notable regard. As with its 2018 predecessor, "A Quiet Place Part II" ticks off all the macros. The acting is terrific, with Cillian Murphy really representing the finest addition to things this time overall. The set pieces are well thought out, utilizing a triptych of parallel action at times to keep things intense. The story progresses in a decently engaging fashion. I just didn't really feel moved or all that enthralled when things came to an unnecessarily abrupt and unsatisfying close. This thing's only 97 minutes long. You couldn't include at least a minute or two of falling action? No denouement? No nothing? I don't know. I guess this just might be one of those franchises that everyone else goes nuts for and I only regard as "pretty good." Expand

It's the first movie I've seen in theaters since the pandemic first began, and I have to say, I've started out with a bang. John Krasinski continues the main themes about what we must endure for the people we love, how family sticks together and looks out for one another in the worst of times. His atmosphere is tense and you're always on the border of being anxious and being terrified. And enough can't be said about the children's acting, who are incredibly mature and effective in encapsulate how grave the stakes are in an apocalyptic world inhabited by murderous, near-indestructible aliens. Very rarely do we see movies today that are better than the trailers. Even rarer is a sequel better than the original. This movie is a huge exception. I'm a fan of Krasinski now!

An absolutely unnecessary sequel that doesn't do anything special to really justify its existence. Cillian Murphy is cool, though.

“Run!”

‘A Quiet Place: Part II’ is a solid follow up to the first movie, which is no easy task to do. Even though I did feel it was the exact same film as Part I, but this time with some new characters added to the cast. Although, in terms of character development, much stronger and expands on certain elements from the first movie.

But still, despite being called ‘A Quiet Place’ it wasn’t quite...well, quiet.

John Krasinski has shown great promise as a director from the first movie and with the sequel it goes to show it wasn’t a fluke. Krasinski has the craftsmanship of building tension with the payoff being incredibly satisfying.

He also knows how to work with actors effectively and get the best performances out of everyone. The amazing Emily Blunt is once again amazing. The two child stars Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are both excellent with strong careers ahead of them. The new addition to the cast is Cillian Murphy, who is terrific as the deeply troubled old friend of Lee (Lee being John Krasinski’s character, just in case you didn’t know).

The sound work, like the first, is fantastic and heightens the little details. While the first movie focused more on silentness with the sound of a pin drop being the loudest thing ever in this “new world”. But this time the movie plays more into sound and the environment being noisier, hence where the sound work is front and centre. The cinematography looked beautiful and striking once again. So basically, everything on a technical level is superb.

However, I have my issues with the movie. The movie can be predictable at times, in terms of how certain scenes will play out and how things will be solved. With the genre being horror, it can be very annoying when the movie falls into old tropes. Such as characters making stupid or questionable decisions that narrative wise makes no sense, other than push the plot forward. That’s horror for you.

Also, a thing to note here, since the daughter is deaf, how does she know how much noise she is making? Like, if her footsteps are making noise or the doors or window, she pushes open. What if a door makes a creaking or squeaking sound? My bedroom door literally creeks and squeaks whenever I open or close the door, and the entire household can hear it, so imagine what that means for the “sound killing monsters” that’s around. So really, she’s at risk and shouldn’t be going out on her own.

Other than that, putting aside my issues, I still think this is a solid sequel that’s worth checking out. If you like the first one, then you’re going to like this one. If not, then I don’t know what to say to you. It’s up to you, I guess.

Overall rating: LOUD NOISES!

This is one of those rare cases that a second part fulfills as much as the first. The plot knows how to convey the anguish and fear that the characters suffer, especially with the help of the musical score. Should we wait for the third part?

It gave us something refreshingly new in the horror franchise and it was best of all, a great movie. When a sequel was announced, I wasn't remotely surprised and was also thrilled about it. The premise is "Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path". So does the sequel live up to the first movie?

Firstly, the returning actors Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are still great in their roles as the Abbott family. Special praise to Noah as there is a scene where he gets hurt and his acting made it seem like he was in actual pain. Their characters also have great character evolution from the first movie. Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) goes from the mother in distress to being the one who has to lead their family. Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmond) now embodies the heroism that her father had and is more forward to helping others. Marcus Abbott (Noah Jupe) is an interesting one as he was always a more frightened character in the first movie and part 2 seems to become more fearful due to the loss of his father. He does have an arc in this movie and it is very satisfying to watch him transform. Cillian Murphy is the newest addition and he is great. He is the opposite of Lee Abbott (John Krasinski) as he plays someone who is a hardened survivor who has little hope, but not zero, for the world. Cillian conveys this pained character perfectly and is a great new protagonist for the sequel.

Additionally, everything else I loved from the first movie is also here. The tension in each set piece is here, the great sound design is here, the effective use of the music score is here, the use of visual storytelling is here, the emphasis on characters and some great monster action is also here. A Quiet Place Part 2 also has an amazing introduction scene that might be one of the best starts to a movie I've seen in a long time. What this sequel does new is that it starts expanding more of the world-building as we see more of the outside world. I like that we get scenes showing day 1 of when the monsters came and I also like that we get to see more different survivors in this new world. If I do have to force myself for some flaws then one would be that it feels a lot less scary than the first movie. While a lot of the monster action in the first movie was in closed and claustrophobic areas, here it is in more open areas which reduces a lot of the scare. There is also something that happens midway which results in two different storylines and perspectives. One perspective is more story focused and the more interesting one while the other is just there to give the other characters a monster set piece. It results in less plot cohesion compared to the first movie. There is also a problem from the first movie that is still here which is some characters still do dumb things. It's not a typical horror movie dumb decision but it can annoy you a bit. There are also some silly things in the plot if you think about it too hard so you got to suspend your belief a little to enjoy the movie. Another small problem I have is the VERY ABRUPT ending. It felt like there should have been at least 5 more minutes of scenes after to give a more satisfying ending. The first movie had an ending that left it open for a potential sequel but was a complete and satisfying ending that didn't need a sequel. Here the ending is a very blatant sequel hook that 100% warrants a sequel as that was not complete at all.

Overall, if you love the first movie then you are definitely going to like part II. Everything that I loved in the first movie is here. While it doesn't do a lot new or better than the 1st, it does the things that made it great in the first place and does it well. While it isn't as great as the first movie, none of the flaws stated take away from the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed A Quiet Place Part II and cannot wait for part 3 or any spinoffs being planned.

A Quiet Place was one of my favourite films of 2018. That movie is basically proof that John Krasinski can direct well. This movie just emphasizes that.
Performances- Emily Blunt is fascinating in this film. She is one of the best aspects of this entire movie. Millicent Simmons who plays Emily Blunt's daughter has also given off a really good performance. Cillian Murphy was also really good.
TENSION- Like the first film, this one too knows how to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats. The tension is present in this movie, from start to end. John Krasinski knows what to do with the tension in his films, and he knows what conflicts portrayed in his movies are most effective, and he utilizes them to the maximum. That's what makes him such a good director.
A WORTHY SEQUEL- This is a damn good sequel. One appreciable thing worth mentioning is that- it feels as though they pay more attention to the human characters in this movie. A bit more than the first one. Another reason why this is such a good sequel is- it doesn't just try to be bigger than the first one. As a matter of fact, it 'is' bigger than the first movie, but it doesn't put too much emphasiz on being bigger. It feels just about as real and simple as the first one. This movie also takes the first ten minutes or so- to tell us where these creatures come from. A lot of sequels don't necessarily give us that-origin story, but this one does. That's great.
We want more, John Krasinski- Yes! He has proven his talent as a director with two very intense, amazing horror films. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of his work. Not just in the 'Quiet Place' franchise, but in other stuff as well. The man clearly knows what he's doing- and he's good in it. So, yes. We want more, John Krasinski!
So, A Quiet Place Part Two is an amazing movie. It's fresh, intense and is a worthy sequel almost as good as the first one. Although the ending seemed a bit rushed up for me, I don't really have that many flaws with this movie. I highly recommend this film to you.

i liked the first. Plenty of spacious scenes that played with the absence of music score and let quiet suspense work the viewers.
Part II starts off good with a look into the origin of the arrival of the hunters. Story wise it moves slowly after that. We already established the characters with an introduction of Cillian Murphy whom i think carried most of this movie with a great performance.
With an hour and a half to bring the story forward, it walks slowly.
The kids in the movie do their upmost to make as much noise and mess as they can. They are ignorant and literally not that smart in their choices. Especially that kid. The deaf daughter gives zero F's and wanders out of her own.
Basically the movie establish little new in terms of a package to provide for a developing experience and ends pretty much in the same way as the first by rigging itself for a part 3 (apparently already confirmed by Krasinski)
Minor disappointed with this one, but still it maintains suspense like the first one.

I would probably say the first film is slightly better than this. John Krasinski feels more comfortable behind the director and writers seat now because both have improved. The writing still isn’t fantastic but it’s slightly better than last time. However, Krasinski still fell into the trap of characters putting themselves into unnecessary danger but it felt worse this time. There is a train car scene with one of the main characters that serves no other purpose to the story than to put one of the characters in danger. At least in the first film there was a reason. Some of the decisions the island group characters make are really stupid to me and that island scene has a MASSIVE plot convenience involving a boat. The story this time took a two pronged approach with two plots going on at the same time and I appreciated it although was one was better than the other. The story following Cillain Murphy and Millicent Simmonds was much better than Emily Blunt’s. Every time we cut back to her character, the story came to a halt because her story really had nothing to do with the overall story. There was definitely a lot I liked though. Millicent Simmond’s performance has improved between the films greatly and Cillian Murphy was the best part of the movie. Krasinski did an excellent job relating him to the characters and incorporating him into the story. Emily Blunt did a good job as well. There is an action set piece flashback at the beginning that does a great job with tension and overall camerawork that I couldn’t take my eyes of the screen. All of the other action was creative especially the boat dock scene. I did like that the story got out more and focused on the rest of the world. A Quiet Place Part II went in the right direction story wise even if the film is still pretty mediocre. If you saw and liked the first one then check this out. Expand

The music and the story was brilliant and the characters were great, the origin felt like a glimpse should've been a full-fledge sequence of how all happened. the screenplay and the flow of movie was smooth and the fast pacing was thrilling, the silence scenes were terrifying and the monsters and sound cat and mouse game with it all the situation it was edge of the seat experience, The starting glimpse of how it started right from it the continuation of 1st part. the intro to cilian's character and the whole quest of finding the marked place in map at first then afterwards with the radio song having the hints of habitable environment after finding it the girls questing alone and the train scene was horror specially the jump scare of crows and monster kill it was awesome, then the 3 teams splits of kid with boy and mother alone and the cilian's and girl then the situation occurs with monster to all at once the tension building was literally awesome, the oxygen scene and the fire alarm scene it was Amazing and the boat scene was surprising and then the twist as per monster can't swim then the island reaching of two only just to know there was a monster inside and the whole mayhem at last with it at the another monster fight in bunker with all 3 charcters in it it and girl reaching radio it was gripping and then the end with girl and boy killing monster at same time it was hella satisfying,Overall it was not quite 1st part's level and the proper origin story was needed but it was short and well stuructured and a Awesomly thrillingly Great Movie!

So it's up to you how you perceive this change. Some may be disappointed, because the charm of the first part, where there was often not much going on and it was mostly silent, is not so much here. On the one hand, some might find these scenes uninteresting to the point of being boring. As for whom I would say. Personally, although I enjoyed the first film, I wasn't one of the biggest fans of the silence where there was no talking at all and it was all about survival, so I'm glad when those scenes were replaced here with proper action that I really devoured. The CGI monsters look really good. On top of all that, it's still A Quiet Place after all, because there are still scenes where a character goes step by step and isn't allowed to make the slightest noise. Although there are significantly fewer of these scenes, they are of good quality and I'm only glad they added the action ones, which I enjoyed. I also praise the new character of Emmett, played here by Cillian Murphy, who we have already seen, for example, as Scarecrow from Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The only catch for me here was the ending, which is in a similar style to the first film and simply gets you fired up for the next one and leaves you waiting a few years for the next installment. Otherwise a good film for me and a hilarious sequel that I recommend. Expand
