Stop being easy on it because its a true story. It is simply a messy and dull movie that comes up empty where it shoulife old jerk teers. It is mostly boring, provides no twist or area of suspense that should be represented by this fascinating story. The emotional depth and life inside the other characters, besides Jolie, (which only she gives to herself, with no help from the director) is non-existant. The film is really not very good. It is jumbled, confusing, inconclusive, boring, and feels very dull and empty. There is really nothing to the film. I would not see it again. Expand

tense, devastating and emotional. AJ gives a performance that perfectly captures the anger, hope, and despair of Mariane Pearl. A Mighty Heart puts all those headlines back in perspective because Angelina Jolie is, first and foremost, a brilliant actress. As Marianne Pearl, Jolie gives the best, most nuanced performance of her carreer. Like Winterbottom's United 93, the story and ending of A Mighty Heart are universally known, but Jolie and Winterbottom put you right there for every frustrating, heartbreaking moment. Jolie is simply extraordinary and the first lock for an Oscar nomination next January! Welcome back Angelina, we've missed you! Expand

Yes Pearl was played by a Caucasian as well as the most popular actress, but you have to admit that with make-up, wig and accent, she did disappear from being Jolie to being Marianne Pearl, not only by looks but by playing the main character of the story. If no one can see this, then non of you have the right to be critics because you judge by the celebrity status of the actress and not by how intense she can play the part. jg... Expand

Blow me. They try to make this movie to be an emotional sad film, but had no taste at all. Angelina Jolie was all right but the plot was completely out of the ordinary pointless.

One of a kind. One of the most important films this year and every American should see it. Jolie at her very best. Give her the Oscar now.

Angelina's great performance suffers from an otherwise confusing, chaotic use of semi-realism photography. Too many scenes appear to be useless travelogue footage that have no bearing on the movie's main premise and unlike "Lost in Angelina's great performance suffers from an otherwise confusing, chaotic use of semi-realism photography. Too many scenes appear to be useless travelogue footage that have no bearing on the movie's main premise and unlike "Lost in Translation" the direction of this movie required that the audience be given better editing and a clear intent on what this movie was attempting to portray. Daniel Pearl is not seen much in this movie is appears more of an afterthought. Angelina Jolie as Marianne Hanssen, however, is almost brilliant in her scenes that captivate and express the perplexity of her situation and her efforts and bewilderment in this tragedy. Unfortunately, her presence can't escape the overall movie's slow and uneven pacing and editing, and the collage of cinematic scenes that appear to be pasted together that when taken as a whole cannot hold the entire movie together. Surf whatever channel you wish to, the day you see this film you are going to hear only one news.

A Mighty Heart

Winterbottom has a daunting task, to make an unfathomable true case into a compelling drama. And the primary reason why it doesn't speak to the larger audience, is that it focuses on the aspects of the world that people often tend to ignore. Addition to that, as an excuse for drama, it is obliged to and does focuses on the reminiscing emotions along with guilt, unknown terror and lack of opportunity. And packed hastily with these horrifying elements the adapted screenplay of John Orloff from a book by Mariane Pearl, threads this sobering journey with formal paperwork and vital social rigmarole that it has cornered itself to go through.

The director Michael Winterbottom against these many odds is still delivering a gritty political drama that befriends the humanitarian nature in the workplace. And that very brief period, that comes late in the film remains my favorite part and the gist of the film. Despite being dipped in a series of pathos information revealed subsequently, the troops in the middle of this cold war manages to find some quality time to share and endear. A film of such rigid posture and it feels good to see it dance absentminded; a slow dance but I'll take anything.

And supporting cast is a major boost in this film. There are plenty of guest appearances in here and each of them casts quite an impression on us and Angelina Jolie in lead. Her part, to be fair, is difficult to portray. Consistently and entirely covering the film with a reserved depressed emotional ride, Jolie gets very few moments to fully exaggerate and express her emotions. A Mighty Heart has a big upbeating and surprisingly even optimistic heart, but all of that remains to be the aftermath that is to and does come after the storm leaves the sea.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a touchy subject for some im sure, given the fact that its based on a true story that only occured a few years ago. Some people may feel that its not right to make money from a movie that is about such a story, like some people are very against the movies made portraying what happened on 9/11, although I happen to think that this movie appeared to be quite well made. I thought that Angelina Jolie did particularly well with her portrayal of Marianne, someone who is clearly very affected (as you would be, if you were in her shoes, of course) by the disappearance of her husband, particularly due to the fact that she is pregnant, you can see how shocked and worried she is while also being fiercly determined to get Daniel back and to get to the bottom of what happened. She puts on a very brave face while dealing with everyone who's taken over her house in the hunt for her husband, while you also see scenes where her emotions get the better of her and I felt that Jolie did well portraying the different emotions of this character, plus her accent (as a Cuban-American who can also speak what I presume to be Pakistani(?)) was quite convincing too, so I thought that was good. The movie doesn't rocket along at a fast pace, it is more of a 'slow burner' so to speak but its quite interesting to see what information is gained at certain points and so its not an action movie but more a political drama in part. It was interesting to see the reaction of the local police and how things change throughout the movie and then the interviewer who records an interview with Marianne asking one or two insensitive questions, to put it that way. I thought that the movie was quite well made, although it is rather uncomfortable to watch in a couple of points. There isn't a great deal of violence in it but its more a case of knowing what its about and realising it is at least based on a true story that makes it quite intriguing, I suppose. There is at least one particular scene where strong language is used, so I wouldn't recommend the movie to younger people, though knowing the storyline you shouldn't be showing it to young people anyway of course but other than that, violence is mostly only suggested rather than graphically shown but it is still quite chilling.

This isn't a movie for everyone and I can understand why some people wouldn't want to watch it but if your curious about it then yes I would recommend it to you, as I think Jolie gives a good performance and its interesting to see how the story unfolds. It is quite emotional, so don't forget to bring some tissues ladies!.
