Interesting premise, and while it wasn’t horrible it could have been better executed. I would Ideally give it a 6.5, but Metacritic doesn’t allow half points, so 6 it is.

There is hardly any thought put into transitionary moments, failing to build up tension to truly encapsulate the viewer. And while it has its moments, it gets boring and repetitive quickly, especially as its tone of panic remains constant rather than waxing and waning. Expand

Particularly when you consider the name he has been making for himself in recent years with more serious roles.

What comes as a surprise to me is that he chose such an unexciting and uneventful story to get involved in the sci-fi genre again. Because even with such a basic script, this had enough elements to produce a funnier and more entertaining movie than the product these two directors ended up delivering.

65 is a film that clearly aims to be a bit more serious in tone than one might expect for a story like this and I have no problem with that, but the filmmakers seem to have overlooked that entertainment was key to going the extra mile.

Adam Driver is clearly committed to his role, but the shortcomings of 65 pull the scales down, as it is clear that the film itself is not a half-baked failure, but it completely lacks the necessary elements to make it the epic it certainly dreamed of being.

His travels are cut short when he crash lands on Earth, 65 million years ago. Natch, he encounters a variety of pre-historic creatures, but not before he discovers the only other passenger alive: In the tradition of so many wilderness adventures, it's a young girl (Chole Coleman). Two of the writers of A Quiet Place (Scott Beck & Bryan Woods) have written and directed, so they've thrown all manner of challenges at the duo. After a while, the credibility of the escapes wears thin and along with it is any potential for real tension. The concept is somewhat interesting and Driver gives it his all, but the directing duo didn't bring enough skill to keep the movie from "crashing." Expand

The attempt was there, but with the beautiful dinosaurs and good actors and actresses, you forgot that excitement and fresh ideas were also needed.
The film quickly becomes boring and repetitive. You struggle through it too often.

If they intend on expanding it this will be a good thing, but if not it left such an open-ended circumstance that I am curious about how it fully panned out for the survivors of the initial crash onto the planet where dinosaurs still existed but there were advances technically that supersede present modernity. It's a great idea and the acting was phenom, of course, but it left me itching for a bit more understanding and I hope they intend on franchising this idea out to deliver more films in the future. A story of loss and the need to continue against all odds in the face of it, “65” squanders opportunities to not only be memeable, but to also develop its characters, their homeworld of Somaris, as well as to present its beautiful CGIA story of loss and the need to continue against all odds in the face of it, “65” squanders opportunities to not only be memeable, but to also develop its characters, their homeworld of Somaris, as well as to present its beautiful CGI monsters clearly and properly. In what seems to be an effort to be sensitive to younger audiences, the directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods decided to avoid presenting the pivotal scenes of death in the plot and with it, most of the emotion and distress it causes, thus vastly cheapening the story’s experience or any value it might have had to the viewer. Their complete lack of spine in the telling is not uncommon in this generation of Hollywood, one which is obsessed with keeping appearances, leaving good impressions and avoiding hurting any feelings. The movie industry is currently swamped in this ideology; a cancer which is nigh impossible to remove since those in power refuse to hire anyone who disagrees, preferring to languish in their echo chambers, unable to see their shortcomings and choosing only to receive praise at every turn. In a pivotal moment in this movie, when Adam Driver’s life is in danger, he delivers every ounce of emotion and determination only for his co-lead to seem uncomfortable instead of involved. This is absolutely a director’s choice; one that is weighed down by the need to avoid any controversy. What could have been a story of love for our fellow man, and a richly developed tale of a father becomes anecdotal in the hands of mediocre developers. We cannot easily identify with the characters and they are not sufficiently engaging due to the poor script and presentation (but at no fault of their own).

Furthermore, the exciting and wonderful CGI beasts in the film are presented at odd angels, momentarily and without true love or consideration to the incredible work put into them. So many monster moments could have been fleshed out and given weight, but instead dissipate. One baby dinosaur in the movie could have gone on to be the next Grogu, if the directors would have had any insight. The movie is poorly shot in general, leaving the viewer frustrated and wishing for a better view of the action.

But the greatest loss, in my opinion, was the chance for this movie to become a cult classic thru the use of imaginative language and word play. The fact that the characters speak different languages could have been the premise for some hilarious dialogue, interaction and brevity. Excellent examples of proper use of this premise can be seen in Luc Besson’s “The Fifth Element” or Wolfgang Petersen’s “Enemy Mine”, both of which are meaningful tales that have staying power in the hearts and minds of their audiences. In conclusion, “65” avoids the chance to be heartfelt and engaging, and thus becomes ignorable; one of many such titles that fade into obscurity.

there isn't much more to really say about it. there are really only two characters who ever Adam Driver is and a young girl who doesn't speak English so not much in the way of character interaction. Its most likely something that wont really be remembered or talked about in the future.

And in 65 the two protagonists, Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt, exceed all expectations: Adam Driver is magnificent in the role of a human-like alien who fell to planet Earth due to an accident with the spaceship he was driving, Ariana Greenblatt is delightful in the role of a little girl responsible for almost all the moments of humor masterfully inserted here and there in the film. The pilot, who has lost a daughter due to an illness, rediscovers his paternal role with little Ariana, and the relationship between the two is the strongest element of the movie: the dinosaurs are just an accident that the two have to face to find the rescue vessel in order to return home. Elements of paleoastronautic scattered here and there enrich the film with interesting contents. Expand

The dinosaurs
Pilot Mills (Adam Driver) is one of only two survivors after a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet. Mills and Koa (Ariana Greenblatt) must make their way through this dangerous planet and the fight for survival begins.

The dinosaurs market for the big screen is severely lacking, so when I saw the trailer for Adam Driver vs a bunch of scary dinosaurs on earth 65 million years ago that's all I needed, I was in. Even the very mixed reviews wasn't enough to put me off. And although 65 isn't quite as bad as some of the overly harsh reviews, it does still feel like a missed opportunity. And stamping "from the writers of "A Quiet Place" onto the poster isn't fooling anyone. 65 comes nowhere near the suspense and tension of A Quiet Place.

65 avoids using dinosaurs we're used to seeing in the Jurassic Park movies which was probably a wise decision as otherwise we couldn't help compare them. The story itself takes a while to get going with all the setup somehow feeling both rushed and dragged out at the same time. Not quite sure how they managed that but sure here we are. There's some strange jumps between scenes early on that feels like scenes were deleted altogether. Either way it takes a bit for the fight for survival to kick in. Once it does it's entertaining in the moment, but it's nothing special and honestly not as great as the trailer made it seem.

The fact that there's such a small cast in a fight for survival across dangerous terrain storyline means there's no surprises in store. There's also quite a lot of flashbacks and scenes reminding Adam Driver's character of his family etc. which is all trying desperately to get an emotional response from the audience but none of that was really achieving anything. The dinosaurs themselves are scary, no holding up your little hand in front of them to stop them trying to eat you. There's some good scenes eventually, even if moments were already spoiled by it's own trailer. The best thing about it was probably the last 20 minutes, it's got a good third act but takes a while to get there.

65 should have been better and I'm not even going to mention how bad the title is. Overall there's the feeling that something was missing here and it's not the most jaw-droppingly memorable movie you'll see all year. It's fine, nothing amazing but you could do much worse. Yeah I'm looking at you Jurassic World: Dominion. Recommended for anyone looking for a short "entertaining in the moment" kind of movie, and it will probably entertain the kids for a couple of hours.

This is a mediocre film in almost all respects and at the same time it was nice to see it. First of all, it is worth noting a good picture, an interesting look at the origin of people in the Universe (original for modern Sci-Fi) and an excellent balance of the timing of the film to its storyline. Of the minuses, almost everything else can be distinguished. At the same time, if you are not a fan of Sci-Fi, you will most likely like the film, you simply do not pay attention to all these omissions and the second-rate of the film as a whole. But personally, I liked 65, although this is a completely passing film. And most likely this is due to how Adam Driver did an excellent job in his role. Expand

CGI shots, making the world more rich, number of people. That movie would have been interesting, but not on Earth. I suspect the budget never allow it. The CGI is well done however, but the fauna is less convincing. I have a problem with the fact we don't see any herbivores (one). The music and the sounds are on point. I love Dinosaurs

I also love Sci-Fi

However, this Dinosaur and Sci-Fi movie doesn't work.

There is barely any plot, barely any character depth, and a severe lack of dialogue. I don't know why the writer made the characters unable to speak the same language because it just hinders the character interactions. They don't even explain what mission our main character was on and why the girl was there. It also has a lot of questionable things such as why a futuristic ship couldn't sense an asteroid belt, yet the main character has a sensor that works great on the ground. The director and writer don't make us care enough about anything. So you should not care to watch this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 65 offered exactly what it promised, the Adam Driver dinosaur movie, nothing more, nothing less. “If anything, there should’ve been MORE dinosaurs,” Friend said. “If Universal makes one more Jurassic World in the next two years, I’m going to stop watching movies in general. I’m so OVER dinosaurs,” Friend’s husband screamed (after the movie was over, in the lobby). Everyone agreed that there was no false advertising. Spoilers ahead.

We had some predictions going into this movie: the navigation system must’ve been so absolutely terrible that Adam Driver could fly his ship 32.5 million years in one direction and then 32.5 million years in the other before getting to Earth, where he started. Like, how unbelievably unlucky is that flight path? It’s actually worse than that. In the movie, there are OTHER human civilizations that predate Earth and yet make it to Earth and they speak English and have cultural references we understand, I guess?

We predicted that, as with any time travel stranding movie, the main character ultimately does not want to return home, either because he’s being held accountable for bad decisions or he just has nothing left to live for there, so the attraction of being stuck in a dinosaur hellscape will prove attractive by comparison. That’s not quite the case here? This is an open-and-shut The Last of Us surrogate father story with dinosaurs, but there are a lot of reasons to think that he’s not especially keen on return. He even makes employee of the **** month by originally offering to do himself in so that he doesn’t incur rescue costs from the company employing him.

We predicted that the time travel would be accidental and non consensual. Turns out there is no time travel? Which I guess begs the question why is this movie called 65? 65 compared to what? What’s with all this relativistic titling in a sci-fi movie?

The value added by having a language barrier is low, but Friend is sure that it makes for a stupider, cheaper movie to produce.

The only thing that really got my hackles up are the yellow lamps, prominently featured in the trailer. Why does Driver place so many of them around them in such a tight circle when all the end up doing is turn red? Surely he could’ve just set one down? He’s been carrying like fifteen of these lamps for miles–to which Friend corrected me, she’s been carrying the bag, not him. Which is when it dawns on me that Driver doesn’t really care how heavy the rucksack she’s dragging around weighs, because he chooses to carry the fanny pack and gun for the hike while she has to shlep all their food and supplies.

Do you like Adam Driver? Do you like dinos? You’re probably not his son then! But also, go see this movie!

It's a basic shoot 'em up with a variety of largely evil reptiles—brevity is a virtue, and this movie doesn't go off on a tangent for three hours. The only somewhat adorable one is quickly devoured. For about five minutes I thought I might have misjudged it. The opening dialogue wasn’t bad, but that was all the movie had to offer. My original impression was correct; this is a boring movie. Far too many drawn out scenes of random behavior similar to movies where characters brush their teeth or just drive around. Granted this wasn’t teeth brushing or driving, but it’s the same kind of filler scenes used because they didn’t have a story to tell and had to film something. I don’t care for Adam Driver and I didn’t like the girl’s character either. She was the stereotypical obnoxious child that’s in almost every movie/show these days. Movie made me lose 65 brain cells. Should've been 65 minutes long at most. Couldn't even get 65/100 score from me. There were less than 6.5 dinosaurs in this. Held my interest for 65 seconds.

Great concept and obviously, with Driver, one of our best young actor as a leading man, it would be a sure fire hit, right?. Boy, was I wrong. Boy, was I wrong. The directors maybe have good ideas but they need to have a better, more seasoned people on the helm. To make a film about space and dinosaurs boring is an understatement. I know what they're getting at...the gritty feel and the like, but in their hands, the films need to be more propulsive and plays like a horror film. Alas, a missed opportunity. Expand

Is it worth watching a second time: No

Watch it Alone or In a Group Setting: Both work fine, better with kids

Keywords: Dinosaurs, Guns, Space-Travel, T-Rex, Earth

P.S. Bad story, doesn't develop the character, too slow at times. Got a few jump scares and dinosaurs. They have a scene showing how dinosaurs got stuck in tar-pits, but its actually the mammals that got stuck and not dinosaurs

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 65 is a film with an interesting concept that just falls flat. In the beginning, it attempts to give you some kind of background but then continues to ignore it and dive right in. This would be fine if it was able to deliver an awesome movie of technology vs. dinosaurs. However, anything that would be enjoyable is put right into the trailer. They try to add a dynamic between a man and a child, but because of a language barrier, it is not executed well. At one point in the film, the character portrayed by Adam Driver hits a dark moment in his life, but it just feels out of place and awkward at the time. There is no sense of urgency until about the halfway way mark. Unfortunately, when something happens to give urgency, the pacing does not improve. This film is roughly 90 minutes but feels at least an hour longer. It is such a shame this idea was not executed any better since the concept could've been an awesome action/horror flick. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is not the science fiction movie you are looking for. Yes it has some nice visuals at the beginning and end, but the majority of the movie is pretty bland visually. Acting is terrible. Somehow we're supposed to believe this young woman is going to play possum after they crash land and her parents are missing. And that she learns enough English to communicate efficiently in the timeline shown in the movie is laughable. Put this one in the category of science fiction movies that shouldn't have been made. This is some misguided Last of Us, Jurassic Park, Nazis on the moon nonsense. Expand

Quite solid average production. I liked the scenery; the plot and the action scenes were fine. If you don't know what to do on a rainy day, this might be a movie to kill some time with.
