Underground is cartoonishly raucous explosion porn from mayhem maestro Michael Bay that feels like a film that was made over a decade ago and was just somehow recently unearthed by Netflix. It's a testament to star Ryan Reynolds and his seemingly effortless charisma because without him the movie would have been a snow-blind mess.

Perhaps if 6 Underground had ended instead of opened with its most imaginative action sequence, much of what came before could have been regarded as a slow escalation of style and substance. As the film is currently constructed, however, 6 Underground feels twice as disappointing for its early success.

It took a lot to get through this, because I re-HEEEL-ly hated that stupid, talky, bloody and endless opening chase. I’ll cut it a teensy bit of slack for A) Ryan Reynolds and B) that really cool effect at the end...But that’s it. Done with this. Unless it becomes a damned franchise.

There’s nothing wrong with a big, dumb-as-dirt action flick. You’ve made some enjoyable ones over the years — the first “Transformers,” “Bad Boys” — but 6 Underground, a nonstop stunt reel with a few, admittedly impressive displays of your usual visual verve — is just “Fast & Furious” crossed with an old Whitesnake music video, but with fewer functioning brain cells.
