The actor were well cast, some of the effects were excellent and the cinematography was pleasing. The movie captured some real Aussie country attitudes and the music selection was iconic to say the least. The story was predictable but the journey through it was less so. There were some cringe-worthy surprises and a few laugh out loud moments. I would NOT recommend this one for the kiddies or those in the fertilizer industry. Well worth the watch. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a dark comedy horror film which features themes including survival, back stabbing and deception. The plot is pretty laughable - I found myself feeling quite amused in various parts of it, due to the absurdity of it all quite frankly. It reminded me of another dark comedy horror film I saw last year called Black Sheep. The characters are somewhat exaggerated, with a number of Australian stereotypes being clearly brought across, thanks to the strong accents the characters have, some of the slang dialogue used and so on. Certainly at first the characters don't appear to be greatly clever, as can often be the case in horror (and especially teen horror) films. Most (although not all) of the characters in this film are adolescent.

There is relatively little music used, although sometimes there are light hearted jingles played during some grim scenes, which is obviously ironic and I felt was somehow amusing by way of circumstance. This is definitely not a film to be taken seriously, the plot is daft and I'd certainly like to think highly unlikely. Some plot aspects I felt were a bit too convenient, moreso than others and didn't seem to sit so well with me. The naivety of Reg struck me as somehow a mix of mildly endearing and also worrying, in that if someone would happily go along with doing what he's told, even with it being as bloody and gory as it is, that has to be troubling. There is a certain amount of characterisation present, unlike some more basic slasher type films - I felt it was funny seeing how Sophie tried to turn things around, by trying to appeal to Reg and get him to take her ideas seriously and to be on her side. Cast wise, Damon Herriman plays Reg Morgan, who, as I say, seems quite a naive 'young lad'. His boss, Lindsay Morgan, is played by Angus Sampson - he's the older brother and Angus does well at making him seem quite a scary, indiscriminate, cold blooded type. As the plot developed, it seemed to get more and more ludicrous. I think its fair to say I wasn't as disturbed by the gore/blood and guts because the situations were so artificial, in terms of being quite unlikely and thus obviously staged , although thats not to say that the bloody violent scenes didn't seem at all realistic in content, which they did. Content wise, the film features strong language and homophobic terms, sex references and an implied sex scene, although no full frontal nudity is shown, plus obviously bloody violence and also characters are shown both drinking and under the influence of illicit drugs. The film carries a 15 rating to reflect this.

I liked the camerawork used, which in some scenes had quite a floaty, aerial feel, with the camera wandering around the relevant characters, sometimes from above and some shots shown with a bright coloured tinge, such a bright blue. Due to this, it felt rather disorientating and left me unsure what may happen next in parts.

Yes I felt this was a good example of a dark comedy horror film. Its quite gory and thus not for the squeamish of course and it is a bit ludicrous in a way that may disappoint or not appeal to some people but I liked the characterisation and found it mildly amusing, so I'd recommend it on that basis.
