Cheat Code CentralThis won't appeal to the hardcore but younger gamers will love the look and feel of this easy to pick up and play, visually appealling game. Just watch out for the tough spots!
-
I do have a dinosaur-size bone to pick with the combat scheme: The melee either involves mashing on the X button nonstop to plow through adversaries or picking them off with your ranged attack.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyIt does prove entertaining in multihour bursts, it's just that it feels unsubstantial compared to better titles. [March 2005, p.128]
-
Eye candy, but not much beyond that.
-
The theory of evolution may not apply to Tork as a character, but it should darn well apply to video games.
-
Game InformerA virtual compendium of platforming conventions, almost to a bizarre (otherworldly perhaps?) degree. [March 2005, p.137]
-
There's no shame at all in putting out a solid effort like this. The only "bad" thing that could be said about it is that it's not revolutionary.
-
It's like your grandmother getting some unnecessary plastic surgery- there's some value for the dollar, but underneath seems to be the same old thing. Still, it could have been worse.
-
Between Tork's slightly unfinished feel and the rising standard for 20-dollar games, Tork really doesn't have a whole lot going in its favor.
-
There is no single thing terribly wrong with Tork, other than the fact that it's extremely vanilla, uncreative, and by-the-book.
-
Perfect for the younger set.
-
Tork is a fairly short game, especially because of the skew towards younger gamers.
-
Tork isn't particularly inventive, doesn't have personality, and probably is worth a rental over a purchase.
-
Clocking in at under ten hours, Tork is short. With all of its problems there is no reason to play it twice. There are mini-games, but they are nothing to go back for either.
-
A flawed and problematic game that will stand out as such with a mature audience, but might not show up on the glitch radar of a younger player.
-
Official Xbox MagazineAs any gamer will tell you, it's not necessarily about the innovative pathways a title forges, but in how it handles - and Tork handles the curves smoothly. [March 2005, p.79]
-
Play MagazineOne of the prettiest games ever and wall-to-wall arcade fun. [Jan 2005, p.58]
-
There's nothing new that we haven't seen many times before and done better. If you're looking for a game that so far seems to be like nothing else, then it's probably best to just wait a couple months for Psychonauts.
-
Sadly we've got a game that's fun towards the end but with a beginning that will have you throwing back sugar pills just to keep your blood pressure up.
-
It's an unpleasant surprise that Tork turned out so utterly "blah."
-
If I had to sum up Tork in just one word, it would be the word I have been using this entire time: mediocre.
