Play MagazineThe angles are fabulous -- never staying in one place too long while framing the action with cinematic flair. [Nov 2003, p.91]
-
A decent game. The graphics, sound and gameplay are all entertaining enough to keep most gamers happy. The challenge isnt exactly that of Everest, but it is definitely worth one run through.
-
The ultimate hybrid of the old-school arcade game and next generation console. Your hands are going to hurt at the end of this game, but its going to be a blast.
-
The only saving grace this game has is for Ninja Turtles fans, but during a time when there are so many better games released you're not getting the same bang for your buck.
-
A smooth, polished game, and it's a lot of fun to play, especially for hardcore Turtles fans. It's just not very complex, and it's not all that long.
-
TMNT doesn't wear its nostalgic aspects particularly well, and the remaining components simply don't make for a very entertaining experience.
-
Yet, with the game rooted in arcade sensibilities, TMNT ends up a short and repetitive journey. Noninteractive environments and scant gameplay differences among the four turtles diminish my desire to replay.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineWhere most licensed brawlers feel sloppy and half-finished, Turtles is smooth and cohesive. [Dec/Jan 2004, p.81]
-
Cheat Code CentralOverall the game plays like it's on a permanent cheat code, which may not be a bad thing to some of our little cheaters out there. Lots of enemies will attempt to overwhelm you but they all have basic moves and very little intelligence making them easy to decimate.
-
In short, this is a completely standard beat 'em up with nothing innovative, nothing that stands out, and a number of features that have been less than ideally copied from other games. Beyond that, it's a decent title.
-
It plays the role of an updated "Final Fight" clone quite well, but the lions share of todays gamers demand a little more depth for their hard earned money.
-
Though the game mechanics are sound, the simply repetitious nature of the game makes it a chore to play through.
-
It's a typical boring and repetitive brawler. You die cheaply, are forced to repeatedly play through unimaginative stages, and don't have a whole lot of fun in the process. In fact, playing through any part of the game is painful.
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe game falls prey to the traps that eventually led to the degradation of the side-scrolling beat-'em-up: There's nothing more to do. [Dec 2003, p.144]
-
It is not that the game doesn't have its fun moments, because it can be that, it is just that they are very short-lived and don't really go any further than the first level. Disappointing.
-
Its sad to think that with all its high-tech fanciness of the new console generation, TMNT cant even muster up the personality and gameplay of the old arcade games.
-
The new game is a little bland, and just doesnt really excite the same way that the old ones do. Its the worst game under the Ninja Turtle franchise, and is worth a rental at most.
-
Edge MagazineFeels cheeky to be criticising a scrolling beat 'em up for being too shallow, but TMNT is possibly one of the most tedious ever. Repetition is only acceptable when you're repeating something gratifying. [Jan 2004, p.109]
-
A hugely disappointing update to a franchise that was once reverred in the videogames industry - why is there no 4P option?
-
While this game is quite the looker, its gameplay is far, far too repetitive and strangely difficult. It's more of a license cash-in than a modern-day version of the classic games.
-
Even by side-scrolling basher standards, the gameplay here is weak and uninspired. The lack of complexity in the fighting system, combined with the lack of variation in the action itself leads to a game that, despite being gorgeous, is still a total snooze.
-
TotalGames.netTMNT certainly looks good but the simplistic gameplay of TMNT will leave any mildly serious gamer with a few hours of fun at their fingertips but possibly no more than that.
