Play MagazineWelcome to the last bastion of quality, Japanese-developed beat-'em-ups. [Dec 2005, p.66]
-
This is a fun little romp that captures the feeling of the old school arcade game, while adding some features that keep the game from feeling too dated.
-
Four player co-op, a few pretty interesting modes, and a solid combat system equals a fair amount of fun.
-
It does offer the upgrade system which redeems it, but overall the game is kind of boring.
-
A step up from the previous entry to the series, offering up all four turtles onscreen at once and some new elements. Still, the gameplay is light-years behind where it should be.
-
To its credit, Mutant Nightmare is a touch better than the last game, "Battle Nexus," in that it doesn't force-feed you a gaggle of terribly clunky platforming sequences to try to keep things interesting. But beyond that meager distinction, this still isn't a very enjoyable game.
-
Like the previous games in the series, the gameplay is incredibly repetitive and uncomplicated, and anyone over the age of 11 will quickly tire of the game after only a few levels.
