netjakA decidedly average Star Wars game that is extremely fun as a rental, but wears thin with repeated play.
-
You'll be simply crying out for more after you've waltzed through the missions on offer in just a few short hours. What you do get for your money however, is a solid multiplayer game and an unfortunately short but immensely fun single player game that is well worth investigating.
-
Buy with the knowledge that even the multiplayer mode cant save some environments from growing stale.
-
The bottom line is that Battlefront is an A-list rental; great for a weekend of Star Wars geekery with a bunch of friends, offering solid fun for the first four or five hours. After that, well, to impersonate Yoda: whether or not to own it you will want, only the future will tell.
-
Unfortunately, the lack of any real depth to the gameplay, random game crashes and the poorly implemented Xbox Live features make it too hard to suggest as a purchase.
-
Do you want to have some fun in the battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back? You can do that. Do you want to fight as a clone trooper on the surface of Geonosis? Done. There really is a wealth of worlds to choose from here, which is one of the few pluses in Battlefront.
-
At heart, Battlefront is just "Battlefield 1942" hosed down in Star Wars juice. The constant lag and lack of online modes suck a lot of the fun out of what should be the consummate Star Wars multiplayer game.
-
With the amazingly rich heritage that Star Wars has, it's confusing that the music isn't used quite as effectively as it should. Without the context-sensitive moments of the cinematic Star Wars the impact is lost, replenishing health to the dramatic rumblings of the Imperial Death March doesn't really do it and sometimes the music just disappears.
-
The single player mode gets boring very quickly, the game's frame rate needs improvement, and it's often times difficult to communicate strategies with other players.
