Old school enthusiasts are virtually required to pick up a copy.
-
The replayability of this game takes a big hit. The game is pretty short, and once you beat it the chances of you popping this in your Xbox to play with your friends instead of games like "Halo" is pretty low.
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe addition of the classic SpyHunter game from '83 kicks the game's score up a few notches just for the cool bonus. [May 2002, p.78]
-
Spy Hunter has left me stunned, proving itself to be one of the most fun and addictive games to hit the Xbox.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyAction: Yup, this game is packed with it. [June 2002, p.120]
-
SpyHunter is a lot more like those cop chase shows than you think - you may have reservations about watching (or playing), but once you get hooked, you're in for the whole hour.
-
Fortunately for Spy Hunter, the control problems rarely get in the way of a good time.
-
The complexity might have changed its appeal, but there's a lot of entertainment value in there.
-
Game InformerWhile the gameplay has been replicated perfectly, the graphics aren't quite up to par with its PS2 cousin. [May 2002, p.87]
-
Entertaining to play, had nice features, intuitive controls, and was a nice adaptation of the original, but it just lacked that extra something to score it as a "keeper."
-
More Larry Flynt than Hugh Hefner. It gets the job done, but it could be so much classier.
-
Extremely short. The multiplayer might help extend the life of the game a bit longer, but its simply not entertaining enough to hold your interest for very long.
-
Sure, there are more extras you can unlock, such as the original arcade Spy Hunter and more DVD goodies, but these features don't compensate for the game's muddled presentation.
-
The game has enough to put a smile on your face, but it ends too soon. The game is good, but its way too short. Just when you really get into it, its over.
-
Your mission... should you choose to accept it ... is to pay $50 for a somewhat average remake of a classic driving and shooting game, which will probably get beaten and possibly forgotten over the course of a weekend.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineIncredibly dark - a problem made worse when damaged vehicles ahead of you spew plumes of smoke in your direction. [Summer 2002, p.91]
-
Dont get me wrong, some of the levels had a lot of exciting, action packed moments, but it would have done MUCH better as an action/adventure game than as a pure racing/shooting one.
-
The carefully crafted original is better than this half-baked piece of crapped-out garbage type arrangement.
-
Play MagazineI find Spy Hunter somewhat an exercise in memorization as you traverse each trecherous path discovering which weapon to use where. [May 2002, p.58]

AlexS.Mar 18, 2002A fun game, but the sound is lacking and the realism of driving the various vehicles could be better.
