The game kicks butt too except for one big problem: the camera.
-
Kudos to developer Treyarch for creating a seamless interface by which players can control a gravity-defying character without any noticeable restrictions or limitations.
-
Game InformerThe action is blistering, yet the camera moves like a slug and requires constant maintenance from the player. Don't let this discourage you, though. [June 2002, p.83]
-
Personally, I found myself enthralled with the video game, so much so that I pulled a couple of all-nighters going through the game over and over again and noticing new details each and every time.
-
The best looking has to be the Xbox version. Compared to the others, Spidey's world is very sharp, clean and crystal clear. Colors are very vibrant and while the textures aren't very detailed, they work just fine.
-
Really good...The game-play is where Spiderman really shines.
-
This may just be the best comic bookâbased game ever.
-
Fun for the short amount of time it lasts.
-
Despite the camera problems and some of the other issues, most players will probably enjoy playing what ultimately turns out to be a graphically superior version of the PlayStation and Dreamcast Spider-Man games, which faithfully captured the superhero's moves and antics to begin with.
-
Good graphics, fun gameplay and acceptable control make the Xbox version of Spider-Man an excellent game for Spider-Man and 3D platform fans alike.
-
The animation is smooth and wonderful to watch.
-
Very fun, though still plays a lot like the first Spiderman game I played on PlayStation (which isn't a bad thing, but hoped for a somewhat different experience).
-
The camera angles do get frustrating after awhile, but the story, graphics, and extra features make it worthwhile.
-
If you have an X-Box, this is the game to beat for playability and entertainment.
-
I love the fact that every Spider-Man ability I could ever want has been included in this game.
-
The animation used in this game is some of the best we have seen in a video game in a long time. Spiderman flows beautifully through web-slings, crawling up walls, or performing his vicious kicks and punches.
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe game is missing a dose of innovation that could've helped it become stunning. [July 2002, p.77]
-
If I have to pick a gripe it would be that the game wasn't designed primarily for the Xbox then stripped down for other consoles, but the addition of 2 levels and an extra villain make it a worthwhile effort.
-
It can be hugely exciting and fun when you are outside flying through the city. However the inside levels feel confined and just lack the excitement of the excellently implemented exterior sections.
-
This is easily the most disappointing Spider-Man game ever.
-
Questionable camera controls and sometimes frustrating gameplay are all but forgiven in the context of the rest of the game's charms.
