  1. While the crisp graphics and bonus levels put the Xbox Spider-Man game slightly ahead of the PS2 and GameCube versions, indoor sequences are still problematic with an uncooperative camera that rarely stays behind the web-slinger as he flits across the room.
  2. Xbox Nation Magazine

The camera itself functions as a de facto enemy -- and possibly the deadliest one of them all. [Summer 2002, p.82]

The Xbox release is the best of the three console editions by far. [June 2002, p.59]
  4. There are some things to unlock, but the game itself is fairly short.
  5. Electronic Gaming Monthly
    65
I found the combat lame, the camera annoying, and some levels frustrating. [July 2002, p.124]
  6. We can't help feeling that this needed an extra couple of months' work to iron out the rough edges and implement some real strategy to the gameplay.
  7. At the end of the day fans of Spiderman fans will find plenty to enjoy as they relive all their childhood fantasies.

If you have not played this game before, the game doesn't follow the movie completely. I am okay with Movie License games not following the movie completely, but most find a way to screw up the game. Spider Man the Game is not like that. The game does take some elements from the movie, however it adds some fun entertaining levels. Some of Spider Man's villains from the comics make an appearance like Shocker, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Scorpion, and the main antagonist of the game, Green Goblin. The controls are very easy, the game gives you help on what your suppose to do, and it is just fun to play the game. The game does have many positive sides, the game also has a couple of negatives. The camera at certain points can be very "Wonky", the boss battles can be extremely difficult, and the campaign is really short. Even though there is negatives, Spider Man the game is fun and I encourage you to play the game. Full Review »

It is the tie-in to the movie of the same name featuring Spider-Man and the Green Goblin. It's pretty fun, it has a good cast of supervillains you encounter like the aforementioned Green Goblin, Shocker, Scorpion, Vulture, and Kraven the Hunter. The webslinging between skyscrapers, though fun, could use some work in the mechanics, it's a little too simplistic. That's improved on greatly in the next game in the series. We see Spider-Man's origin story in this game, as you get to track down Uncle Ben's killer, Peter pursues Mary Jane Watson in the backdrop of the game, and you encounter the Green Goblin. A strong start to the Spider-Man game series, though limited partly due to the fact that it's older. Full Review »
