A great action game, especially for the Xbox since we didnt get "Devil May Cry," and Otogi: Myth of Demons is about as close as you can get to this style of carnal gameplay. For fans of the Spawn franchise, Manson fans, or fans of Goth-horror in general, this is a no-brainer.
-
Looks good, plays well, but lacks the darkness and depth that defines the title character.
-
It follows the story line and the characters from the comic well, and does a great job of capturing the overall mood of the series, but the gameplay itself doesn't have the right attitude.
-
Challenged by a few technical issues (especially on the GameCube) and held back because of its repetition, it might not grab as many audiences as Namco hopes -- Even if it is mindless, good-looking fun.
-
The game only lasts around four and a half hours. The replay value isnt all that hot either, and the game is not completed unless its beaten on all three difficulty levels, totaling around fifteen total hours.
-
The disappointing part of Armageddon is its length and its lack of variety. You won't get too much playing time to see the visuals and there is no compelling reason, apart from aesthetic appreciation, to revisit some of the locales.
-
Game InformerThe game basically says, "You're obvioulsy really stupid, so we're going to hold onto your hand and lead you through this stage. [Jan 2004, p.151]
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe main problem with Spawn is that it's simply dull... The entire game feels as though it was just phoned in. [Jan 2004, p.82]
-
Spawn: Armageddon isnt going to turn the action/adventure category upside down, but it will get the attention of its based-on-a-comic-book competition.
-
It has a simplistic hand-to-hand fighting system, a jerky, broken camera, crappy, jarring level designs, and horrifically frustrating platforming elements. It pretty much just fails at emulating the combat-heavy action games that have inspired it, and you'll constantly remind yourself of this as you play.
-
Combos are pretty lame, and with only a couple of basic attacks, the action gets very repetitive.
-
The slightly dull and unadventurous graphics really dont impress on Xbox and could have been better.
-
The developers may have been trying to recreate the success of "Devil May Cry," but instead found themselves in the realm of its disappointing sequel, as an underachieving, run-of-the-mill action title.
-
Regardless of the game's inspiration, Armageddon is a mediocre action game that is carried only by its license.
-
Play MagazineNot bad, but not real good either. [Dec 2003, p.81]
-
Not worth playing, as its neither fun nor particularly creative or inspiring.
-
A very standard beat 'em up/third-person shooter that has many of the elements you'd expect (minor upgrades between levels, slow-motion special power) and none that you wouldn't.
-
One of those titles that simply straddles the fence, basking in an overall sense of mediocrity with some flashes of visual brilliance.
-
TotalGames.netFor a character torn between good and evil, Heaven and Hell, Spawn can be a pretty dull guy and so very, very average.
-
Although Armageddons selection of slick, diabolical hardware is great, using it turns into a fumbling experience. Between multiple foes attacking in every direction and the unintuitive button setup, switching between your weapons is a chore.
-
Not that simple-minded action isn't worth some time, but Spawn just feels like it's mired in the past, with simple platforming, basic attack combos and a few collectibles to string you along. After a while, with eyes blurry from too much same-y destruction, Spawn just felt like "Bad Dudes" dragged kicking and screaming into 3D.
-
Has some potential, but is it dragged down by its own mediocrity. Boring, repetitive gameplay and bland visuals make up Spawns biggest missteps, while a formidable soundtrack keeps the game from being totally without merit.
-
netjakIt quickly becomes apparent, though, that there is actually very little depth.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThe action isn't bad - just appallingly generic. [Jan 2004, p.110]
-
Its this unoriginality that hurts the game most.

JoseS.Dec 15, 2003This is the best Spawn yet. I like the graphics but there could of been more combos. But other than that, the game is great.
