  1. It’s got some of the best voice acting around, some great suspense, a conglomeration of familiar sci-fi elements, and pretty neat weapon upgrades but the problematic camera and so-so puzzles means that RLH won’t become a classic and will no doubt cause a few headaches.

Nothing is more embarrassing, or fun to watch, than something that someone thinks is cool, which falls flat while they really try to sell it with clueless enthusiasm. Just about every aspect of this game falls flat, from the gameplay to the soundtrack.

A frantic pace and wonderful sense of creeping doom keep players running and gunning smoothly - well, except for that flaky camera. [May 2003, p.136]
  4. 60
Tense gunfights, unnerving corridor crawls, a surprisingly engaging plot, fantastic sound work, and gameplay that provides an entertaining mix of old-school action and exploration all help make this a solid science fiction gaming experience.
  5. You have a potentially scary story set in the isolation of space, but the aliens cease to become scary long before the story concludes. Everything becomes predictable and downright boring near the end, as the game spirals into mediocrity.

Simple and to the point, Run Like Hell is the "Alien" game we never had... A nicely tense ride. [May 2003, p.88]
  7. Just a decent sci-fi story mixed with some rather unambitious gameplay. Nothing is done gratingly poorly, but neither is anything done with any sense of innovation or panache.

Why port a PS2 title that wasn't very good? It's like re-releasing "Cool As Ice" in theaters - no thanks. [June 2003, p.56]

The characters look nice enough, but the station itself is uniformly drab, making it easy to get lost. This situation isn't helped by a control system that seems designed to give you carpal-tunnel syndrome.
  10. Tries to deliver a varied and immersive gaming experience, but just doesn't deliver.
  11. Ultimately, RLH is a game that simply wasn't good when it was first released, and even with slightly better graphics, a new level, and Xbox Live content, it still isn't a good game.

While it's acceptable as a diversion, the action and atmospheric elements are too much at odds with one another.
  13. If you like your games with an involving storyline and easy, RLH will probably be right down your alley.
  14. There’s literally no break from the boredom because the combat is just as bad as the story.
  15. It's a fun and very atmospheric game, but with so much repetition throughout it can real old real quick. But then, all movies like this are more of the same so where's the surprise?

The last time I checked, survival horror games were supposed to be scary. The only thing frightening about Run Like Hell is the prospect of having to play through it more than once.
  17. Official Xbox Magazine

With washed-out textures and an overall lack of detail, the visual impact doesn't match up to Xbox standards - and unfortunately, neither does the rest of the game. [June 2003, p.84]

If you're a card-carrying son or daughter of Ripley (or sci-fi in general), RLH is a must play. [May 2003, p.69]
  19. The gameplay is bland and monotonous, the graphics are boring and murky, and the sound is excruciatingly painful. RLH is not a fun game on any level.
  20. It's one thing to watch your favorite stars provide product placement in Hollywood blockbusters, quite another to force the BAWLS into your mouth as a condition of advancing through the game.
  21. Xbox Nation Magazine
    70
Forget the wonky camera and intermittent sputters when a new room loads - hell awaits, and it's genuinely desirable. [Apr 2003, p.93]
  22. It wasn’t scary, it wasn’t enthralling, and the only feeling that it ever gave me was that I wasted 4 bucks to rent it.

Amazing story line once you really get into it. I just wish there was a sequel. They left it off with such a cliffhanger.
