  1. Sadly the lack of multiplayer support and any kind of depth beyond the two playable races really hamper the game's lastability.
  2. The lack of any real longevity hurts the overall appeal for most people, but thankfully this blows the movie out of the water, but that really isn’t saying much. Just to play as the dragon though, go give this game a rent!

What hurts the game the most is the vehicle control setup. In a game where you are firing at enemies from all directions you need independent steering and weapons controls. Not so here. [Feb 2003, p.81]

You may very well enjoy the dragon missions. But the linear missions, oftentimes frustrating controls and general dreariness of the gameplay, which makes it all feel more like chore than entertainment, may prevent you from that entirely.
  5. I did manage to have some fun with Reign of Fire, but never got past the frustration with the controls.

It's gritty and grey, a joy to control, and above all, it's unique in its presentation, allowing the player to play as human or dragon. [Dec 2002, p.88]
  7. Starts out like a raging inferno but quickly extinguishes itself rather quickly with its repetitiveness and dreadful controls.

Reign Of Fire looks impressive, creating a suitably post-apocalyptic world, but everything is so brown that the visuals become rather samey very quickly.

Repetitious missions and cumbersome controls pilot Reign of Fire headfirst in the dirt.

With such a dynamic premise, there is no reason this game couldn't have outshone the movie.
  11. This excitement always quickly fades, leaving you with a game with unresponsive controls and lackluster action.

The game's biggest problem is the annoyingly sluggish controls used to navigate your jeep about the various landscapes. [15 Nov 2002, p.144]

The game isn't even remotely balanced. [Winter 2002, p.102]

The fight between the dragons and the humans is choatic. It feels like a real war with big explosions the ground shanking when dragons are brought down, stinger missile like weapons shot out of the vehichle looke realistic. At times the fighting made me confused and start looking around in a clueless way. This is what I liked because it shows what real armed forces face in war. The graphics of explosions, water, amount of humans and dragons looks good but in other parts the textures are dark. Overall its a good game. Full Review »
