AceGamezThe developers have clearly thought long and hard into what would make Raze's Hell more than just a shooter. The best thing about this title is killing Teletubbies.
-
It's adequate-looking, sounds OK, makes a passable attempt at humor, has a decent selection of weapons, a nice set of multiplayer options, and puts up a reasonable challenge. But it doesn't excel in any of these areas.
-
It can be frustrating at times, but the light hearted humor and the solid gameplay will get you through some of its flaws.
-
The game lacks the precision of a professional-level shooter to satiate the genre's dedicated players and its whole concept is undeniably more attractive on paper than in polygon.
-
There has never been an affordable game so original, challenging, funny, or entertaining before.
-
If you love quirky humor and challenging gameplay then this is a title you'll want to be adding to your game collection. And you can't beat the $20 price – just don't let it fool you into thinking this is less of a game than it really is.
-
The difficulty alone will put many off, while others won't care for the dark humor and cynical world view that ooze from this game. Those who do, though, will find their willingness to take a chance rewarded by a quirky but ultimately satisfying action adventure.
-
I would buy the game just for the Mini-Golf alone. Like I said, every now and then a game comes along that renews my faith in companies making something fresh and also taking a risk.
-
Travel the world, meet cute and fuzzy creatures, and then kill them. What could be more fun?
-
After playing through it twice from start to the insanely rough final level, I truly had more pure fun with Raze's Hell's single player game than I did with "Halo 2" or "Doom 3."
-
No fancy effects, but some great level and character designs make up for it.
-
The character designs are very imaginative, while the sets and graphic ideas are great. Raze truly is a cool looking character, and the Kewletts are too cute to leave alive.
-
One of the more interesting and fresh games to come out this year. It's certainly worth your attention since it's so unique and different from a lot of other games currently out.
-
A bit on the plain side for me, but a middle-of-the-road good game.
-
Don't come in expecting anything groundbreaking or technically refined, but if you've been harboring a grudge against the cute platform creatures of the world, you may want to check out Raze's Hell to satiate those urges.
-
It's not about outmatching cunning opponents or solving complex puzzles. It's a game that scratches an itch that is so base and so primal that you can't help but smile as you eviscerate your saccharine enemies only to gorge yourself on their bloody entrails.
-
A decent action game that could've been much better given more polish and some focus on the controls and balancing the AI.
-
Raze's Hell is a fun but short-lived experience. While its story mode can be entertaining at times, it soon becomes repetitive as it's all shooting and killing.
-
It's obvious that Razes Hell is a budget title, but it's also obvious that Artech has done some really good things here.
-
The nearly endless ways of offing Kewletts keeps the action fresh when the story starts to get a little slow.
-
The A.I. balancing makes the single player game is too difficult to be fun because players are forced to rely on their distance weapons to avoid confrontation. The multiplayer options are nice and make for some average online matches.
-
Cheat Code CentralIt's a very challenging game that is not recommended for the casual gamer - unless you want a real bad beating. Don't knock it, it's good for you.
-
If the difficulty curve were balanced a bit better, and the production values were higher -- meaning graphics, because the dialogue is awesome -- Raze's Hell would fare better in the score department.
-
It should be said that while the general look and feel when playing the game is that of an unfinished work in progress, the satirical and dark comedy stands out as a saving grace.
-
Missions are equally dull - blow up this and collect that, nothing you haven't seen before. You can have a mate join the killing in co-op mode, but that's only fun for an hour. After that you'll have exhausted most of Raze's Hell's potential - apart from its potential as a makeshift frisbee. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]
-
Pretty average gaming action with a fun story. A good rental or discount buy.
-
The game itself is based on a funny concept and it keeps the player amused throughout, with one liners from the Kewletts and the joke signs placed on the battlefields.
-
The gameplay is nowhere near as original as the setting, nor is it particularly spectacular for that matter, but just as you could do better, you could also do worse.
-
Play MagazineThin humor does bring a few laughs to the satirical underpinnings. Not bad for 20 bucks. [June 2005, p.57]
-
Game InformerThroughout the game, I felt no connection to Raze or the fate of his people, which hardly makes for a compelling experience. [June 2005, p.131]
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe videogame equivalent of all-you-can-eat shrimp week at Sizzler. [June 2005, p.86]
-
Loads of mini-games, split-screen co-op play throughout the entire story mode and online game play, including deathmatches and a fiesty soccer skirmish, flesh out this budget-priced title.
-
And for those of us who've had our fill of the Barneys and Elmos and other sickeningly sweet creatures forced onto children today … it's finally payback time!
-
The game's large assortment of weapons, online and co-op play, and handful of fiendishly addictive mini games far outweigh the first generation graphics and frame rate issues.
-
Lacks several qualities found in the best of the genre, but its value in relation to its price makes this title a heavenly purchase for any shooter fan looking for the latest fix.
-
Computer Games MagazineBrutally hard. [July 2005, p.91]
-
With over 20 massive levels in which you destroy, search, escort, hostage rescue, defend, create diversions, ambush, and much more, you will have fun finding new ways to infiltrate the Kewletts each time around.
