The presentation is still some of the best of any baseball title.
-
The animation is exceptional and the game looks amazing.
-
With the colorful commentary and hard hitting action, those who plan on using the multiplayer modes wont want to miss it.
-
With zany characters, extreme action, and a solid baseball background, this is the definite break that casual fans of the sport can totally root for.
-
Official Xbox MagazineGreat controls and well-implemented action features, like punching and turbo, that add a different type of depth than that seen in typical baseball games. [May 2003, p.78]
-
For those who pick up the game for its action elements, there are a lot of animations thrown in merely to make you laugh.
-
The additions are noticeable, but it may still be tough for owners of last year's game to justify a purchase, considering that it hasn't even been a year since the release of "MLB Slugfest 2003."
-
Its no secret that the Xbox looks the best of the bunch.
-
Due to good physics modeling, sharp AI, and spot-on controls, no amount of wonky pitches and fiery players, watery stadiums, and moronic (if hilarious) commentary can detract from the solid gameplay.
-
Play MagazineThe biggest improvement is the overall visual quality of the game. [Apr 2003, p.71]
-
As off-the-wall arcade sports spoofs go, this is still king of the hill ... or is that mound?
-
The gameplay is great, graphics are above par for a baseball title, and the audio is exactly what it should be. On a negative note, there is slim to none single player existence so SlugFest is a multiplayer game in all its glory.
-
GMR MagazineIt's not baseball. Slugfest is "NFL Blitz" with bats... If you know what you're getting going in, you'll have a blast. [Apr 2003, p.65]
-
Game InformerIt's a great game for head-to-head bouts with friends. [Apr 2003, p.93]
-
What is the most disappointing in 20-04 is the lack of real additions. Sure a fun HR derby was added, as well as a custom replay option, but what else? Oh yeah, a create-a-team! If that's what you want to call it.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineIt's baseball done for the mindless MTV generation, and it smells like a turd polished to a high gloss. [Aug 2003, p.88]
