The game is as good a boxing game as you are going to find, but its not great.
-
Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing has a slew of faults that inevitably bring the title down but thats not to say that you wont have a good time in the ring.
-
Official Xbox MagazineMediocre. [Nov 2002, p.125]
-
Xbox Nation MagazineThe deep create-a-boxer mode is the only aspect of the game that truly excels, but one good feature doesn't even out a sub-standard title. [Fall 2002, p.120]
-
The most disappointing aspect of the game, however, is the lack of attention to detail. The loading times are atrocious simply to go from one menu to another, you cannot improve your fighter's abilities between fights in the Title Belt mode, and there's no Training mode.
-
From a simulation perspective, the game suffers because there is no way to control the pace of the fight. The jab and the straight cross have very little effect on the computer so you are forced to get in close and throw uppercuts and hooks the entire time.
-
The game is a mess from the opening bell to the K.O. punch. As for differences between the two versions, nothing was touched up for the Xbox version, and both games are virtually identical.
-
An all around mess of a game, Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing is officially one of (if not THE) worst examples of digital boxing we've ever seen.
-
It doesnt seem to know whether it wants to be a realistic simulation of the sport or a straight-out arcade game, as it stands it manages to succeed as neither.
-
Probably the baddest boxing game on the planet, in a bad way.
-
Quite possibly one of the most confused games and most definitely one of the worst games to be released so far in 2002.
-
Pathetically boring.
-
Although I have no gripe with the stable of boxers included here, I think the game would have been a lot more enjoyable if other equally despised personalities were licensed for the game. Just imagine the possible matches, Tyson versus O.J. Simpson, Hussein versus John Rocker, Bin Laden versus Enron board members. That would be fun no matter how bad the game sucked.

[Anonymous]Aug 4, 2002Character creation was abysmal, also it is horribly confusing and anti-player friendly, like super-star like game.
