Cheat Code CentralDoes an admiral job of actually reproducing the feel of "virtual" go kart racing - perhaps more so than any other kart game before it.
-
Play MagazineThe deeper you go, the better it gets, until it pretty much blows you away. [June 2003, p.58]
-
It has some has some life longevity to it - but considering its sharp-curved circuit designs, lack of additional game modes such as 'FreeStyle' or 'Stunt' mode which Babylon really could have taken advantage of, and its expected graphics, it is not a game that I will find myself looking forward to play frequently.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyA cool team-play aspect makes up for the lackluster fighting. [May 2003, p.132]
-
The gameplay sometimes feels like its in low gear. The tracks are short and predictable, and although stunts are encouraged, the repertoire and controls are limited.
-
Official Xbox MagazineIt's clean and playable. That's all. [May 2003, p.75]
-
The physics of whacking your opponents with the bat are also ... well, whacked. More often than not, a smacked enemy flies in front of your kart, slowing you down and putting you at a disadvantage.
-
Although the arenas aren't fascinatingmall, city street, construction sitethe game's characters represent a broad cross-section of global hipster youth.
-
It's so cartoony that no fan of serious simulation-type racers will likely give it a second look, but it's just realistic enough that people looking for something along the lines of the mascot-based games will be turned off as well.
-
Game InformerThis game screams mediocre from start to finish. [June 2003, p.113]
-
The repetitive races keep it from a higher score. Still, the snarky attitude and sweet physics model of the go karts make for a good deal of fun.
-
First and foremost, this is the easiest game Ive played for Xbox. Gaining and maintaining the lead is so easy that the only race I completely blew was due to a sneezing fit.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineA Scenario mode provides enough challenge to kill a whole weekend, and drivers can opt to play one of two distinct clans, each with its own furiously branching storyline. [Aug 2003, p.87]
-
TotalGames.netOne interesting touch is the apologise button. You can wave to a rival racer in the hope that they'll forget the pummelling theyíve just received.
-
It just isnt fun. Its a classic case of a game trying to be all things to all people, but it lacks the wackiness of a game like "Mario Kart," the simulation accuracy of "Gran Turismo," and the polish of "SSX Tricky."
-
Furious Karting isnt that furious, or really that extreme to me.
-
The easy playability, decent graphics and dumb violence are perfect for the young, inexperienced and generally immature gamer. However, the lack of multiple paths, weapon variety and useful shortcuts keep it from satisfying basic kart racing requirements.
