Slaughtering things with feral powers is always enjoyable, and the expanded multiplayer options help to keep this game entertaining long after you blaze through the new single-player content.
-
If you have Instincts for the Xbox and wouldn't mind playing an original Xbox game, save yourself $30 and get Evolution. Both games are great and are worth at least a rental. If you've yet to experience Far Cry, though, it's worth a purchase.
-
Really, your enjoyment of Evolution will hinge on whether you enjoyed the original game. If so, then this expansion represents another 6 or so hours of shooting fun.
-
A real sequel would have been spectacular, but, for $30, this isn't too shabby.
-
BoomtownA worthy successor in the Far Cry franchise, the small single player game reflects is budget price, but the awesome multiplayer makes it more than worth the price tag.
-
Evolution packages this new campaign along with an improved multiplayer suite. It's basically more like an expansion than a full campaign, as it's about half the length of the original campaign.
-
Evolution isn't much of an evolution from "Instincts." That being said Evolution is still a top notch title.
-
Official Xbox Magazine UKA very competent expansion, albeit one that's way too brief. Story mode can be finished in around six hours. It's also one of those add-ons where you rarely feel the developer has stretched itself creatively. [Apr 2006, p.67]
-
As with its namesake, Evolution doesn't hold many surprises, being a by-the-numbers retread through environments and situations that will now be more than a little familiar to veterans of the series.
-
Pelit (Finland)A bit of a disappointment compared to the original Far Cry Instincts. There should have been more of everything – more weapons, more abilities, more gameplay. [Apr 2006]
-
Official Xbox MagazineStill, the big missions get a bit too big by the end, especially when you keep thinking you're going to fight the last guy, only to be forced to endure one tedius jumping puzzle after the next. [Jun 2006, p.83]
-
Far Cry Instincts Evolution isn't really an evolution but more of the same which is good if that's what you're after.
-
Had Evolution been released as a full price game the short single-player campaign would have been a huge disappointment, but considering that it retails for under £20 and there's an impressive set of online game modes included as well, it's a steal.
-
The single player missions aren't nearly as engrossing as the original story, but the map editor and Xbox Live playability make up for this nicely.
-
The Xbox equivalent of an add-on pack. It's a good fifteen hours of non-stop action wrapped around a semi-dense plot which, in turn, is set on a background of mouth watering graphics. No bad combination in anyone's books.
