  1. I suspect that you would be better off renting the game if you are unsure, as the evidence suggests that you might be a little disappointed with the game once you put your finger prints on it.

The suspects often feel interchangeable and the science of CSI becomes a bit redundant in video game form. A nice effort, but one that fails on Xbox.
  3. CSI could have been one of those rare point-and-click interactive gems on the Xbox - since we rarely get many of those - but due to its considerably flawed design, poor graphics and simplistic trial-and-error puzzle solving, this one will just disappoint fans of the show.
  4. A bit light on the detective work and more about pointing and clicking until something is discovered and following basic logic. I'm not sure it would even be possible to make that much better of a CSI videogame- the medium is more the hindrance than the game itself.
  5. A very sloppy port of a much more stable PC version, and how the game managed to pass through any non-catatonic Quality Assurance team is beyond comprehension.

Unfortunately, in the game, that process is nowhere near as compelling and fast-paced as in the show. [Feb 2005, p.97]
  7. If Grissom really loves his insects he'll be at home here as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is literally filled with bugs. Problems with the mechanics made matching DNA and other samples an absolute nightmare.
  8. On multiple levels, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation fails miserably.
  9. The premise is certainly unique and brimming over with potential, but the execution is so lazy and ham-fisted if it were a killer it would have shot itself in the foot. Shame really. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]
  10. Ubisoft's game would have gone over much better had they given us more freedom to use the team at hand for better purposes, and not stuck us with only so many puzzles to solve or obvious hints at what needs to be found where. Furthermore, the game simply isn't fun to play, using a clunky interface.

Gameplay progresses at a frustratingly slow pace, and it seems the most rudimentary powers of deduction have been substituted for the need to find a small piece of evidence hidden away in the least likely place.

A clunky interface is your gateway to placeholder text, graphical glitches, and other telltale signs of simply not giving a crap.[March 2005, p.84]
  13. The flaws really hit home: the senseless randomness of matching DNA data and the unchallenging routine of tracking down clues.
  14. CSI is so boring that it almost makes you want to kill yourself so you can be just like the dead bodies in the game.

Very basic and linear but yet surprisingly addictive.

This game isn't going to blow you away with graphics or intense gameplay, but if you're a fan of the show, its worth at least a rental.
