Car models are practically flawless and the best we've ever seen in a driving sim. Enough races and challenges to keep you occupied for some time. Good AI. Topnotch physics.
-
As good as the game is, hopefully the company will add even more features and bring back the ability to drive as yourself in the next installment. Absolutely recommended.
-
Cheat Code CentralCMR3 without hesitation is the purest virtual representation of rally racing ever created and you should know that before going in.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyYou won't find a better offroad racing simulation anywhere. [Jan 2003, p.194]
-
Its handling, damage system, and realistic feel [are] untouchable, without ever allowing it to get in the way of being a fun game. If it werent for the lacklustre visuals, this would get an even more enthusiastic response.
-
Game InformerSimply the best rally game out there, bar none. [Dec 2002, p.144]
-
It would appear the true fans, a small niche of the general gaming population, will truly appreciate it. But when it comes to sheer variety, an easier learning curve and exotic game modes, Id pop in something else other than Rally 3.
-
As always with the McRae series, the sublime handling of your car is what makes this game so appealing.
-
The 1-900 telephone number that has to be called in order for the secrets to be unlocked. What the heck was Codemasters thinking?
-
A carefully crafted and outstanding racing experience.
-
Offers some of the most enjoyable and realistic rally racing on any platform to date--it's just a shame that the game's options are so limiting.
-
To be honest, CMR3 can't hold a candle to "Rallisport Challenge" graphically, but betters it with phenomenal collision detection and handling.
-
The gameplay itself and the controls are great. I found the game to be a little more forgiving than "Rallisport Challenge" and it seemed like I had better control.
-
A must have for die-hard rally enthusiasts who enjoy the feel of a real driving simulation. Its lack of extra features will alienate casual racing fans, but the game is designed for gamers who appreciate the true racing feel that CMR3 brings to the Xbox.
-
As far as realism, physics, and attention to detail, Colin blows away the competition. Other racing fans, especially casual fans, will pass on Colin for its difficulty and lack of modes.
-
I had a lot of fun with this game, I just wish I could have chosen a different car than the Escort.
-
The physics, sense of speed, handling and graphics are dazzling, top-notch effects that rocket this game to the top of the heap, in those regards. On the other hand, the sheer lack of game modes is disturbing.
-
Official Xbox MagazineIt's focused tightly on perfectly re-creating the atmosphere and physics of Rally driving, without any arcade-y distractions. [Jan 2003, p.69]
-
The major components are very polished...its the small things that seem duct-taped on as an afterthought. Interface, options, and a schizophrenic driving model just kept it from greatness.
-
Play MagazineFrom the superb modeling of the interior and exterior of the vehicles, the realism of its courses, and the precision of its control, McRae looks and feels just like the real thing. [Jan 2003, p.75]
-
CM3 has only a fraction of the features of "CM2" and fails to add significant upgrades. While the sound, driving, and stages are excellent, the game ultimately comes up short.
-
Updated, upgraded, and pushed into the new generation. With a large amount of tracks, addictive and absorbing gameplay this is the perfect game for fans of Rally...period. Just don't expect your Xbox to break a sweat.
-
If you are a rally fan then the addictive gameplay coupled with the sight of the perfectly recreated cars racing around official tracks should be enough to overlook any rough edges.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineIf you're looking for a flawlessly executed version of one of the coolest motor sports on earth, this is well worth checking out. [Feb/Mar 2003, p.85]
-
Bad points aside, if you are looking for one of the most realistic racing games available.
