  1. From the graphics to the dry commentary to the awkward controls, Chessmaster could have had a lot more going for it. Since older versions for the PC can be found, and the mouse interface is more intuitive, I'd have to recommend one of those versions over the Xbox version.
  2. As chess games go, Chessmaster is top notch. I was surprised at the challenge and excitement I felt playing Chessmaster. But after a while, it becomes work to play against the AI and until the Xbox Live portion begins to build steam, it's not going to keep me coming back.

If Chessmaster upped its production values, it might be worth a look to casual chess players who just want to get a game in here and there. [Jan 2005, p.90]

This game is pretty good for Chessmaster has always been a decent series of games, and this console port upholds the general good quality. This game is pretty good for somone just to sit down and play, and enjoy, but for anyone who wishes to be serious about chess, this ins't a great chess at all wahtsoever. I'd reccomend a copy of Fritz with Chessbase to vastly improve one's skil by going over games. Full Review »

I would have given it a 10 if the ai didn't take unrealistic amounts of time to move. Sometimes their moves are instant, and other times they take seriously long times for simple moves. Full Review »
