  1. Factor in the need to half-push the left stick and left and right triggers in order to get style bonuses, and you can see why intuitiveness completely disappears.
  2. Microsoft's biggest mistake with Amped 2 was not in shunning its chief competitor's vivacious aerial antics, but in failing to mimic its ease of control and combo structure - areas where the "less is more" idiom could most do with application.
  3. Features a number of flaws at a control level that stop it becoming an essential title.
  4. It adds a couple of new control features to the original game, but it doesn't address the underlying flaws of the system.

Call us old fashioned, but shouldn't a game be tougher at the end than the start? Amped 2 does start to pick up after several stages, and once the methods have been mastered there is some serious enjoyment to be had.

Playing Amped 2 is like eating a yellow snowball... Due to its inconsistencies and problematic gameplay, frustration abounds in Amped 2. Do me a favor, avoid the frostbite and stick with "SSX." [Nov 2003, p.164]

Amped 2's thick, slow riding and terrible controls are simply unforgettable, whether the aim is arcade speed or serious realism.

Horrible aerial physics, the trying control system, and the gradual build-up of stats make sure that the "Amped" series still has plenty of room for improvement. Amped 2 plays second fiddle to the "SSX" series as the most exciting snowboarding game on the mountain.
  9. There are also issues with the questionable collision detection, which often results in your character slamming into a nearby pole that you had apparently avoided.

Disappointment, thy name is Amped 2. [Christmas 2003, p.122]

Still the best realistic snowboarding game to date! (It's 2012). Why? Amped 2 does right with providing actual landings and probably jumpStill the best realistic snowboarding game to date! (It's 2012). Why? Amped 2 does right with providing actual landings and probably jump cheese-wedges that makes the game realistic feeling compared to those other snowboarding games that build massive jumps to flat landings. The game may be dated, but the gameplay, the controller setup, and the way the game functions is incredible for a game made in 2003. It's fun, addictive, and will have you replaying it until the year 2012. Until, someone decides to build the "skate" of all snowboarding games. Until then, Amped 2 still beats SSX, Amped 3, and so forth. Full Review »
