A fine attempt at turning 80s cop shows into a video game, that wisely uses PS1 era GTA games as its gameplay template.

While The Precinct can be a little rough around the edges, Fallen Tree Games has done a solid job of making the job of a police officer a lot of fun.

Fallen Tree Games signs a cop game that tells, from a traditional perspective, a story full of clichés from the cop movies of the 80s and 90s. Set in the late twentieth century, The Precinct invites us to perform all the activities of a young police recruit in Averno City, a city that lives up to its name. Chases on foot or by car, shootouts at full speed, confrontation against gangs and the occasional investigation will help us to get out of the routine of kicking the streets giving traffic tickets and punishing uncivic pedestrians who litter or paint walls. An accumulation of activities that make working as a policeman in Averno City an offer to take into account.

Where The Precinct succeeds is out in Averno, coaxing us into fine police work. Fallen Tree has found its niche.

The Precinct is a fun police simulator with solid gameplay, but it lacks an engaging story to keep you going.

The Precinct aims to change the GTA-style genre by reversing the roles, featuring more structured police gameplay and a retro atmosphere inspired by 1980s crime films. While the concept, aesthetics and variety of patrol situations are appealing, the game suffers from a lack of narrative depth, repetitive gameplay and notable technical issues. The game offers an arcade-style police simulation, in which you shouldn't expect anything more than a sandbox world, but one in which you can still have a good time.
