    Star Wars: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is a game with plenty of cons and pros alike. It’s an unashamedly simple and fun brawler, with a lot of content, a good variety of characters, a surprisingly meaty story mode for the genre and various extra content – all of which can be played with your (local) co-op buddy of choice. Do arm yourself with patience, however, as many game mechanics are a bit undercooked and unprecise, with a lot of bizarre level designs and features that didn’t quite receive the polish they needed, and that this remaster hardly really improved upon. As a quite minimal upgrade to a forgotten but solid game, clearly this one’s for the hardcore fans, who can jump back to the similarly flawed but enjoyable prequel trilogy’s beginnings.

    Sure, gaming has evolved since its initial release, but those nostalgic for games and Star Wars films of another time might find this humble adventure worth their time, even if it won’t blow their mind.

    If you don’t have any particular nostalgia for either The Phantom Menace or the original release of Jedi Power Battles then this might not be for you. The controls work but are not very precise with the Jedis sometimes feeling like a tank. Oftentimes it’s very hard to hit enemies despite being almost inside of them. But it’s still a short and fun action-fueled romp through the areas of the first Prequel with the more than occasional new enemy thrown in.

    Aspyr's Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles has some nice graphics and quality-of-life improvements, but it doesn't really add anything substantial that wasn't there in the Dreamcast version. And unfortunately, Jedi Power Battles is far from the best Star Wars game out there.

    This new edition is largely based on the original, in both positive and negative respects. Aspyr has also added some new content and technical optimizations, but again leaves a lot of potential untapped. This makes it more of a nostalgia-soaked experience or a history lesson in Star Wars video games for all those who played it back then or for those who didn't.

    There will likely be some Jedi out there who succumb to nostalgia and enjoy reliving the events of 'Episode 1' in this game no matter what, but for everyone else, Jedi Power Battles is a tough one to recommend. The co-op mode does offer some fun moments and is perhaps the best way to experience this package, but the overall design hasn’t aged the best and we encountered some technical problems on Xbox. Maybe wait for a sale on this one, if you aren’t the biggest prequel trilogy fan.

    The last two-and-a-half decades have not been kind to Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, and Aspyr hasn’t done quite enough to tackle the bugs and other issues that plagued the game upon its 2000 release. This remains a fairly torrid experience, then, and one of the Star Wars series' lesser video game outings. Maybe leave this one in the Sarlacc pit where it belongs.

    What happened here? Well the original game wasn’t great, so Aspyr definitely had their work cut out for them. You can only polish a turd so much. The new visuals are nice, the content is cool, but playing the game is just a painful exercise in frustration. It is never fun. I was constantly thinking about turning it off. I had to force myself to finish the first level when I started playing. This game is just not fun, and it should be. How they managed to take the easiest layup in gaming, making Jedi fun to play, and completely airballed it. I would skip this one entirely.

    Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is sort of the ultimate version of the game, where you can find all the content in one place, even from different versions (and it's based on the Dreamcast version). So there's lots of characters, levels, a gallery of bonus material and other content. But it's not a good experience. It's full of bugs, often major ones, that often make it impossible to progress through the game.
