Joyful co-op adventure Split Fiction has some minor faults, but in the end it is filled with so many unforgettable "whoa!" moments, it would feel wrong to give this anything else than full five stars.

Not to exaggerate but Split Fiction is a very special game. It’s one thing to aspire to offer variety and bring so many ideas together. It’s entirely another to manage it so successfully, creating a game which just gets better and better and better, as well as managing to stick the landing when it comes to the final act.

As someone who has played thousands of video games, there are times when it feels like I've seen it all. But Split Fiction literally made me gasp because I was blown away by what I was seeing. The game surprises, delights, shocks, and endlessly entertains. Split Fiction is one of the best co-op games ever made and something that every gamer should experience. Josef Fares and his team at Hazelight are batting 100, with Split Fiction easily on the short-list for Game of the Year nominees come award season.

Split Fiction is a fantastic game, polished to perfection, I can’t imagine how the developers are going to top this.

Split Fiction is a clear and early frontrunner for my Game of the Year for 2025. Every moment of this game was enjoyable, even just sitting on a bench and overlooking some epic landscape while the characters shared a bit about themselves.

Split Fiction is a must-play for anyone who enjoyed It Takes Two. It takes the same formula as It Takes Two and pushes it even further, with much more detailed levels, a greater variety of mechanics between stages, and a story that will leave no one indifferent. Without a doubt, Split Fiction is going to be a strong contender for the GOTY awards this year, and for good reason, there hasn’t been another game that blends so many elements together and achieves what this title does.

After analyzing every detail of Josef Fares' new game, I can only say that he and his team at Hazelight Studios are incredibly talented, proving once again that their creativity is on another level. Someone might say that a cooperative game can't be that good and that its concept can feel forced, but Split Fiction completely dismantles that idea. It's an experience that you must play, with rich and varied gameplay that draws you in and doesn't let go until the end.

Although Split Fiction works on the It Takes Two formula, it makes up for it with an absolutely insane pace of on-screen madness.

Split Fiction is a great title that repurposes and improves on the elements that allowed It Takes Two to become GOTY in 2021, all seasoned with a good quality storyline that always remains perfectly balanced between depth and levity. A highly recommended co-op game for those who want to spend several hours of fun together.

The most impressive element of Split Fiction is how well it ties everything together. Its disparate locales and subplots all share a beautiful, unified art style with a story that melds perfectly with its gameplay.

Split Fiction stands out as an exceptional cooperative experience, true to the promise of a creator who has never lacked confidence in his project, and rightly so. If the plot remains relatively classic, it is really only there to serve a gameplay that reveals remarkable inventiveness and intensity. Hazelight manages to constantly renew the experience, offering a multitude of situations with crazy ideas and memorable sequences. The game shines with its frenetic pace, its lack of gameplay loop and its ability to surprise the player until the end. Split Fiction is a true technical and artistic tour de force, where the dazzling artistic direction and ingenious level design combine to offer a very great, fun and immersive spectacle.

Split Fiction proves that Hazelight Studios isn't done defining what co-op games can be, with excellent gameplay and unique level design that stays fresh throughout the entire experience. Mio and Zoe may drift into some cheesy genre clichés, but that's entirely the point of this warm story that emphasizes human creativity above all.

Split Fiction raises the bar for co-op adventure games and will surely be in the 'Game of the Year' conversation come the end of 2025. Its increased difficulty will put some players off, but those who relish the challenge will discover a magnificently varied, inventive and ambitious gameplay journey that's bound to stick long in the memory. My wife's already asking when the next one's coming out.

In the end, you won't even know how the 15 hours of Split Fiction have flown by as you immerse yourself in worlds of boundless imagination. Perhaps no game has ever offered so many ideas at once. Yes, not everything works 100%, and occasionally something could use a little more attention, but it's still an experience you'll enjoy and return to again and again.

It Takes Two set the bar for co-op excellence, and while Split Fiction doesn't necessarily raise it, Hazelight has succeeded in delivering another stellar two-player experience, packed with a variety of superlative set pieces and clever gameplay mechanics.

Split Fiction fully deserves to see its name appear on the list of the best cooperative video game titles. The multiple science fiction and fantasy stories are fascinating to follow, thanks in particular to some sublime immersive levels. Moreover, the adventure is led by an endearing female duo, who slide from one crazy scene to another at an intense pace. Behind their screen, the two players will surely be constantly surprised by the different actions to be carried out in a coordinated manner. However, those who have already tried their hand at previous Hazelight productions are likely to quickly notice all the studio’s know-how and signature movesets, and thus engage in some comparative analyses. There are indeed a few things missing for the title to be perfect, such as more mini-games within the explorable areas, but be snoopy and give a chance to this marvellous fairytale work!
