It’s not often that a game can change your perspective on how you have previously enjoyed (or not) the franchise but Sonic X Shadow Generations has just done that. I’ve never been a full-blown hater of 3D Sonic games, but they were never something I sped to play (pun intended). This new game has changed my mind. The remaster of Sonic Generations is great as expected but Shadow Generations is like finding extra fries at the bottom of the bag. The 3D landscape that you get to explore as Shadow and the powers you acquire is like a breath of fresh air for the series. It gives me hope for the future of Sonic and it’s worth your time to check it out.

Sonic x Shadow Generations manages to perfectly combine two games and avoids falling into the easy path of simply selling a remaster of a game that is known to hold a very special place in the hearts of Sega fans. adding an extra like the Shadow levels that are completely new and invite even those not interested in Sonic Generations to pick up the game. Whether you are a fan of the hedgehog or simply someone who did not play the original edition and is looking for an adventure game, this title will not disappoint you in any way .

A game of two halves, with a gleaming remaster of Sonic Generations and an all-new, practically full-sized Shadow Generations portion, Sonic x Shadow Generations is a killer dose of the blue blur and his brooding counterpart, which still ranks among the best that Sonic's modern era has mustered in recent years.

Shadow's latest chapter is arguably his best video game outing yet and easily the definitive experience in Sonic X Shadow Generations. The remaster of Sonic's existing campaign tops it all off, even if it has aged a bit in 2024. Fans of the ultimate lifeform (and the blue blur) should have a blast with this one.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a double treat. We have a poor remaster of what is considered the best title in the franchise in a decade, and on the other, we have a new independent adventure starring Shadow The Hedgehog. Excellence in level design, gameplay, and soundtrack. It’s a shame that the remaster of Sonic Generations falls short of expectations.

SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is a good collection of two fun games. Sonic Generations is still a solid romp even if this port adds more issues to the game while Shadow’s offering is action-packed and builds on the former’s strengths. This is the most you’ll ever get of Shadow the Hedgehog for quite a while, so dig in while it’s hot.

The ravages of time are already showing on Sonic Generations, and while visually it's a very good improvement, some of the content changes are unnecessary and the gameplay hasn't aged well. Shadows Generations, by comparison, at least offers something fresh, albeit shorter. But it does manage to entertain, and you can enjoy those few hours with the game. Overall, this remaster isn't bad at all, but it also shows that Sonic has a problem these days and doesn't quite know how to deal with it.

Stick with SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS long enough, and you may find enjoyment there. Somewhere, deep, deep down.
