Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways

Ada Wong takes the lead role in the remake of this Resident Evil 4 legendary DLC. Capcom blends new ingredients with the best elements from the main game and creates an essential expansion in the process.

All in all, Separate Ways is a brief, but worthy addition to Resident Evil 4’s excellent remake. What it skips over in length, it makes up for with meaty combat, and offering an alternate glimpse into the events of the story that once again intertwined Leon and Ada’s paths.

The first DLC of the excellent Resident Evil 4 remake could lead to some mixed feelings. On one hand its quality matches the high quality of the base game, delivering satisfying action against old and new enemies, with gameplay that holds a few welcoming surprises. On the other hand, the story of Ada Wong is so integral to the main story that it poses the question: should it be included in the main game instead of being offered as a paid DLC?

Separate Ways is easy to recommend. The price is right, the length is nearly perfect, and everything I loved about the original is still here. The boss fights are fun and the story being fleshed out is appreciated. I cannot recommend this enough. A must have for fans and anyone who enjoys a solid single player action game in general.

Ada Wong has everything that could interest a video game protagonist. She's strong, she's independent, she's attractive, and she's an absolute killing machine. And after spending these hours with her, closer to her, he also manages to maintain that halo of mystery that always surrounds him. You don't even have the feeling that Capcom is deliberately hiding something from you. What's going on in her head is still there and it's hard to reveal it. Flashes of her personality are reflected through her help to Leon or in the decisions she makes, but she is definitely not a heartless mercenary who only cares about killing.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is finally complete with the release of Separate Ways, and it's exactly what you'd expect — more RE4, but this time with more Ada. Missing story pieces, expansions over the original, and the addition of a grappling hook are all worthwhile additions that make the Separate Ways DLC a brilliant addition to Resident Evil 4 (2023).

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is a delicious slice of DLC that serves up more of the same high standard survival horror action we got in the main game. Smart changes have been made here, this is a more believable and fully fleshed out Ada Wong, and she's thrown into a seven chapter adventure that dishes out some excellent boss fights, explosive set-pieces and fun surprises for new players and returning diehard fans. If you enjoyed Resident Evil 4 Remake, this is unmissable stuff.

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways elevates an already great game with a substantial new story. Its new gameplay additions are excellent while its story is gripping and full of exciting moments.
