My expectations were really high, had played From The Ashes for about 300 hours. And this game surprised me in every way.
The tutorial is very generic, and the lack of customizable buttons is other week spot, but that is it, all the other things in game are amazing.
If you liked From The Ashes, go for it without a doubt.

Build diversity is ok but not that deep would have liked to see more done with armor but the multiclassing is a good idea. I played medic/gunslinger it was a good match for my solo play through. There’s a ton of rings/amulets to collect that can help your build as well as mods for weapons. The story was ok but not the strongest I was expecting a better story to fit the worlds and characters you see and meet in the game. I definitely would like in the future for remnant to double down on lore and story because they have some fascinating things going off. If you enjoyed the first one you will enjoy this. Difficulty wise it’s not that hard if you put together a competent build but some bosses can be tricky and obviously you will have a much more difficulty of a time on the last difficulty the game offers. They copied the whole game from other existing games, then the only thing they made new is the final boss, they wanted to do the alternatives, in fact it sucks one of the most disgusting and confusing boss fights ever seen, change jobs, no one will miss you.

From the moment you load up Remnant 2, it's evident that Gunfire Games has spared no expense in utilizing the raw processing power of the Xbox Series X. The graphical fidelity is jaw-dropping, with every detail rendered in breathtaking clarity. The worlds you traverse are a vivid tapestry of lush environments, eerie ruins, and dynamic lighting that combine to create an atmosphere that's as captivating as it is foreboding.

The seamless integration of the Xbox Series X's hardware elevates the gameplay to an entirely new level. Load times are low, the most time a world had to load was around 10 seconds, allowing you to dive straight into the action without any interruption. The 60 frames-per-second performance ensures buttery smooth combat sequences, which is crucial in a game where split-second decisions can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

In an era where sequels can sometimes falter, Remnant 2 stands tall as a prime example of how to build upon a solid foundation and create an experience that exceeds expectations. With its stunning visuals, exhilarating gameplay, and meticulous attention to detail, Gunfire Games has not only met but exceeded the high bar set by its predecessor. Remnant 2 on the Xbox Series X is a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike, a shining gem in the crown of the action RPG genre.

Prior to Remnant 2 coming out I emailed gunfire and asked on Reddit if the many bugs I had experienced were going to be addressed in the sequel and I got no response. I was hesitant to purchase but my husband decided to risk it and sadly we have had all the same bugs from the first game. We have ultra fast fibre to the home but server stability is still terrible, many issues with multiplayer bugs, often seeing entirely different things on our screens next to each other, constant crashes, stuck in terrain, stuck in game mechanics like door opening, boss fights just stopping progress halfway through, events needed to progress in a dungeon not triggering resulting in having to restart the campaign, button presses regularly do not register leading me to try many different controllers which made no difference. Am currently using fully wired controller and internet and still have to repeatedly press to get a response which ultimately leads to me dying. I emailed gunfire about these issues and got no response again which I am very frustrated about. I am so disappointed with the state of the game and the fact I have the exact same bugs as FTA. I do like the mixing up of the world's and bosses available now but at the same time I don't feel like the story flows quite as well in this one as in Ashes. Expand

Where once youHaving been a great fan of Remnant from the Ashes I was very much looking forward to this sequel. It did not disappoint. The game is largely the same as Remnant from the ashes (hence forth called RFTA) with a few key improvements and changes. The core gameplay loop of visiting worlds and defeating their boss monster remains only this time around the stakes have been raised. Where once you had a single class for the entire playthrough. You now get to choose two from a pool of the archetypes that you find during your play sessions. The pool of trinkets and baubles that you can equip to enhance your character has also increased. So all good so far.

Where things fall a little flat, for me at least, is in the puzzles and enemies. I had more fun fighting the enemies from RFTA as their attacks and variety seemed to be much more varied from world to world. In Remnant 2 there are still around 5 enemy types per world but, they somehow feel like variations of each other in a far more noticeable way than RFTA enemies did. Then there are the puzzles. No spoilers here but, these seemed way too obscure in some cases and I wonder if many of them were legitimately found or just data mined. Some are just plain annoying such as your friend and trader Cassy's inventory being both random and having a very low chance to contain items that only she can even sell! There is such a thing as too stingy an RNG pool (just look at Destiny 2 where the developers have the ability to add bad luck protection but, instead choose to force players to endlessly grind the same raids and missions instead. It genuinely feels like those Devs are laughing at their player base). Thankfully Remnant 2 isn't quite in that league. However stingy is stingy and the game feels stingy at times. Especially with it's currency (called scrap) which seems to be handed out like scrooge Mc Duck at a Christmas party.

So what does the game look like? Well on the XSX the game presents well though the implementation of FSR (which seems to be 1.0 and not 2.x) is a little fuzzy at times on the performance/balanced modes but it is perfectly acceptable in quality mode. UE5 does an excellent job in this regard. Textures are sharp and everything looks amazing. The problem is that quality mode runs at a poultry 30fps and I don't really know why. I can only presume that the version of UE5 used to develop the game was a pretty early one as performance of the engine has increased to the point that Remnant 2 should simply not be struggling in it's quality mode, given it's limited scope environments. Especially as it's not even using the Lumen lighting system. Hopefully the Remnant team can update to the latest version at some point when things slow down and they've recovered from the launch of the game. It would be a truly magnificent site to see this games environments under Lumen.

Would I recommend Remnant 2? Yes is the short answer to that question. If you liked the first game then you'll like this one. There are three DLC drops coming and all are promised to be available by this time next year. Presumably spaced out in three month increments and a lot of balance and fix patches as was the case for RFTA. So this game will have legs. Without giving away any spoilers I have to say that I'm not too sure where the story and thus the DLC go from here though. I'm at least looking forward to finding out which is high praise indeed.

    I really really really want to love this game. The concept is great, the mechanics are good enough. Controls are ok. I have some minor complaints, but the biggest one, and the reason I quit at the final boss;

The boss AI is garbage. If you play solo, they're pretty much unremarkable and simple enough to navigate. But I play with a friend and EVERY TIME we enter a bid fight the boss will attack me and me only, ignoring him completely and just spam attacks on me until I run out of stamina, can't dodge anymore, and inevitably get downed.

And if that wasn't enough, the boss will now fly around or walk around or travel around the arena of combat and not do anything until my teammate tries to resuscitate me. At which point at an almost incredibly predictable rate at 75% resuscitation the boss will start attacking the other player trying to resuscitate me. We have tested this over and over and over again and 75% seems to be the trigger for the AI to attack.

That's just cheating, Devs. There's other inconsistencies in the game and little things that I can look past but this glaring issue with the AI almost being programmed to be cheap and predict what's going on that it can't even see is ridiculous it's bad game design and until it's fixed I won't have any interest in continuing to play this title.

My other complaint would be the almost non-existent story, if I get that they're going for a souls - like here, but let's be real people play games for a story and if every soul's like has no story then they get really boring and repetitive really fast.

I will hold out to the hope that eventually these boss issues will get patched out but I have my doubts.

The bosses are amazing especially the final world bosses but some bosses are just upgraded versions of regular enemies so that does lose a few points. The Level design is its greatest asset and its greatest curse as although the procedurally generated level design does keep repeat play-throughs fresh, it means that the level design feels too artificial, which makes it slightly less immersive. The main story is not good but the side stories are fairly well developed and somewhat interesting such as the story with the doe and the wolf was interesting or a ghost in an Asylum. The best area was Losomn as it had the coolest quests. Overall a great Soulslike game that just about scrapes a 9. Expand

It’s a loot shooter with Forspoken dialogue and story. Who are the writers, that keep writing this stuff? It’s brutal. Anybody claiming it’s a “souls-like game” is lying to you and themselves. It’s clunky, and looks and feels unfinished. Maybe it’s better on PC, because the gameplay footage I saw in videos, looks nothing like what I was experiencing. Don’t waste your money on this.

That could all be tweaked mind you, and the full potential of this games fun could be reached. It's still a riot to play with friends. Still looks decent enough. Still has a ton of customization and RPG depth to offer substantial replayability. The story writing got much better since the first game. That dynamic generated campaign progression is brilliant. It's a lot of fun when fully partied up with friends. Add cross-play support and this could take off even further. Right now its good but with a couple things tweaked it could be amazing.

You won’t hear me talk this highly about a ‘Souls-like’ game ever and that should speak volumes to just how good Remnant 2 really is. Any sequel worth its salt should look to improve upon what the original did before it, and that is one thing that Gunfire Games has certainly done with Remnant 2. The entire game feels like a love letter to fans of the original with new systems and classes, improved features and gunplay and the solid co-op gameplay. I just wish the narrative was as polished as the rest of this package though, here’s hoping we get a Remnant 3 where that wrong is righted.

The gameplay is what really stands out. This is because you can be incredibly creative with the build you create, which can provide endless variety. In addition, the soundtrack is great, the bosses are good and there is plenty to do. All things that make the game worthwhile. At the same time, the story is not very interesting and there are technical issues that sometimes get in the way of enjoyment. A bit of a shame in an otherwise decent gaming experience.
