Everything in Prodeus comes together to ensure that if you’re looking for a DOOM-styled shooter, this is one to take in. It looks great, comes with fast and fluid gameplay and allows you the chance to make the most of a whole host of guns. What more could you want? [Provisional Score = 90]

It has and an interesting incentive to make you replay previous levels again. It is not perfect but you will definitely enjoy Prodeus. Expand

There are some nice qualify of life improvements like an overhead map that you can navigate to select your levels, and ore you can find that acts as currency to buy gear for your character. There are some clever things the developers did with level design, like the surface of water or sand changing elevation to reveal new paths, that were way beyond anything Doom ever did.

If you're just here to blow up endless waves of creatures while listening to heavy metal, and you're a big fan of Doom Eternal, you'll probably like Prodeus. Overall though, I wasn't that impressed, and it's hard to articulate why. I would say Prodeus has a lack of character. Our protagonist is silent, and there is no real story to speak of. Killing enemies is oddly unsatisfying, as if they're weightless, There are so many monsters that spawn all over randomly that it's more like dealing with a nuisance than any feeling of accomplishment clearing a room. Maybe you will like waves of enemies always spawning whenever you touch a button or key, sometimes as many as four times in the same room, but I find it sucks the fun out of combat.

There's a lack of the creativity and style that made games like Shadow Warrior or Duke Nukem fun. To be fair, the original Doom was pretty basic as well. Maybe the Doom formula just doesn't go that far in 2022.
