In the game, drivers compete in races and try to set the best time on extreme tracks behind the wheel of powerful and officially licensed ATVs and UTVs.

Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game has a wide variety of content with 37 vehicles in three different categories, five environments, 31 circuits, and multiple race modes, including a much deeper career mode. Players must control the vehicles' power and skillfully navigate the track to overcome obstacles and win competitions.

As with the first game, Overpass 2 is not what one would consider a traditional racing game given the events you participate in and the sim-like management of your team. You will be frustrated when you first start playing, even if you’ve gone through the tutorial, but push through and it gets somewhat better. Like the original, the foundations of something cool is here. I know when I reviewed the first game, I hoped that there would be a sequel with improvements in various areas, and although there are some, Overpass 2 still has annoyances that continue to hold the franchise back. The experiment of the first game continued with the release of a second, but the result is one that feels like it could have used more time. So, the major question is: “Dare I wish for a third kick at the can?”. In some ways yes, but they need to take the time to make improvements, or the third time could be unlucky.

Overpass 2 is a challenging racing title that won't be for everyone. However, if you like to push yourself to the limit then this is the game for you. Yet, a tough learning will put off many would-be gamers.

Overall, Overpass 2 is a game that looks to bring the world of off-roading to players by offering what developer Neopica believes to be an authentic experience, but it does so without offering anything that truly simulates that experience. At best Overpass 2 is an arcade racer in an off-road setting, with events that slow the pace from the typical racing game, but with controls that don’t allow for a reactive play through, you’re instead left frustrated and bored by the midseason races whilst the visuals take us back to the days of Baja: Edge of Control, and as much as that wasn’t a hit when it arrived again in 2017, Overpass 2 won’t be either for 2023.

Overpass 2 attempts to bring racing fans a complete package at a seemingly discounted price. What players will find with this experience is that this is one case where the old “you get what you pay for” adage rings true.
