While I wish more was added as well as replacing the Frostbite Engine with a better engine, Madden NFL 24 plays up to it's strength with the new improvements that can help the series see a new long term plan ahead.

Great Madden! No Hate! Ultimate team has free players you can earn. Combine is cool. Passing is intuitive. H2H works. I remember drills on my PS2, still a refreshing change of pace if you like MADDEN you'll like this game.

THE GOOD- New player skeletons and animations make the gameplay feel fresh. New catch, tackling, defensive back and line play animations are all noticeable and a welcomed improvement. Play on the field has been improved, almost significantly and is better than it’s been in several years. -AI is much improved, especially for QB’s. Defending Russell Wilson feels like defending Russell Wilson (maybe not last years’ IRL version).

    - Some minor tweaks/improvements to Franchise mode. (More on this later).

    - Crossplay; if/when it works is a welcome addition for those that play online (I don’t, but it’s an idea that I’m sure folks who do have been wanting and I’m happy they got it).

-mini games offer a new way to improve players and adds a little more RPG element to the game. - THE BAD

    - The soundtrack, to me is the weakest one in years. Several songs are just down right bad. Where are the hits? These are B-Roll songs. Where are the “this was written for Madden” songs? - The franchise updates are a slap on the face to franchise players who have been complaining for years yet still loyally shell out $60-$100 a year for this game. The updates are minor enough to have been a patch update. Character creation and draft class player editing is now a very lengthy and BUGGY process; crippling the draft class creation element. Hopefully it will be patched as soon as possible. It’s the same faces as last year but (maybe to fix the player skin color selection bug?) it’s just a long formation that you have to scroll down through instead of starting out with the color then choosing the face in that category. You choose your face mask first but some are not compatible with the helmet that you select later. Which only makes the process take longer and feel tedious. Editing player salaries takes forever. Editing really, anything, takes forever. You can relocate right away, but it’s the exact same stadiums you have been moving to for ten years. The jerseys have been slightly updated. Some new cities have been added. Again…these are updates that were coming in patches in the previous years…

-A lot of the same stale commentary you have been listening to for years, the infamous “old coot” like is back. -Crowd noise is louder and probably more realistic but it’s hard to hear the on field action. Maybe the camera could be tied to the sound adjustment? The closer to the field the camera is the louder the player sound will be? An idea. I’ve read there will probably be a patch for the sound, a lot of complaints so far. Overall it’s a nice upgrade on the field. Some slider adjustments after play testing; and the day one and early on patches will assuredly improve a more than solid foundation there.

Promised Franchise improvements I feel just aren’t good enough. It’s nothing really new. It’s just old ideas and options in a different package that is a buggy mess as of now. Not a lot of effort or resources were put into that game mode (again), and it shows. As a mostly franchise player I’d say i’m disappointed yet again in that department.

Overall it’s a fun experience on the field. If you’re a head to head or MUT player, you will be happy with your purchase. If you’re a die hard franchise player, it’s not a whole lot different from Madden 23. Maybe wait for patches and a discount. 6.5/10

I'll give Madden 24 credit, it is a decent improvement from its predecessor in a few ways. The additions to franchise mode, like contract restructuring, double the amount of trade slots, and training camp/mini games are very welcome too, but, like many Maddens before, it STILL suffers from the same damn problems plaguing the series for years. The sorry excuse for new relocation teams (just repurposed NHL custom logos) is pathetic and EA needs to grow a pair and give users a real customization mode for teams. Literally every sports title has it except for Madden, heck the NHL series has a great one Madden devs could just rip off given it's the same exact engine. On top of that, the presentation is still absolutely awful, even if slightly better than Madden 23, and the commentary crew NEEDS to go now. Superstar is still not remotely up to par with other sports titles and MUT is pathetic as usual. Madden 24 is a step in the right direction, but it still needs to do way more to actually regain the full trust and wallets of consumers. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s better than last year but that’s not really much of a compliment. The game is super laggy and it’s a long process to just navigate menus. Still no create a team in franchise, or front loading/backloading contracts, and so much more missing in franchise. SuperStar mode is meh. The combine is actually awesome, super well done so props to EA for that. However, beyond that, there isn’t much to do. A lot of things such as “brand focus” are just text based and you can’t actually participate in them. You also can’t simulate games, you HAVE to play every single game. (excluding preseason) Gameplay is better I guess. It’s still pretty bad and easy to exploit though, even on All Madden. All in all, the game is just not good in my opinion and I really wish the NFL would get rid of the exclusive licensing they have with EA and give other companies an opportunity to compete with Madden. While the gameplay is slightly improved.. there is lots of issues. Presentation is awful, same as past maddens, menus are extremely laggy, character models are off, and most importantly: it doesn’t feel like I’m playing football. It feels like an arcade game catered to a younger audience that doesn’t know what real football is.
Constant ads for ultimate team and a half baked 3v3 mode

The last 6-7 years have been going downhill in one way or another; I used to really enjoy MUT, and wouldn’t mind even spending a little money on it. Then it became so gross with micro transactions that NMS players were virtually screwed and forced out of the mode. Then I would spent my time playing franchise, and Franchise mode stagnated for years with little to no love as the core gameplay got worse and worse. This year I told myself I would do a trial, but I was not spending a cent unless it was better. This is my experience with Franchise.

Franchise mode: I started a franchise with the Jags; offline mode beginning preseason. I start with the mini camp drills, something I LOVED playing in the old Maddens when I was younger. I immediately notice that none of the mini-camp medals are accurate (it would tell me I received silver but give me bronze bonuses, it would tell me I got gold but give me a silver medal, etc). Fair enough, does it annoy me, yes, is it game breaking, no. Then I get to a mini-game where Josh Allen, 6 foot 5 inch, 269 lb all pro linebacker, is meant to make a path through a line of blockers and sack Trevor Lawrence. Half of these blockers don’t attempt to block, and stand their like dolts with their hands in the air as JA blazes past them. Then, I hit stick Trevor Lawrence, who SHRUGS OFF the Josh Allen hit stick and gets back into passing mode. I come running back and attempt a secure tackle. Trevor Lawrence again close Josh Allen and breaks out of the tackle and my time runs out. REALLY bad luck I say, next rep I will get it. 5 more reps later with zero sacks, and probably 15 Trevor Lawrence broken tackles and I am supremely confident the coding is wrong. I finish up the mini games and get to preseason game 1. I need to do my weekly strategy, and set my rookie LT as one of my extra training individuals. I go through mini drills for the other two trainees, and get to the LT, and low and behold he has no mini drills for him available, even though the game is telling me one exists. Lovely. I decide to simulate the rest of training, and the F****** game freezes on me and will not move past the loading screen. At this point, I turn off the console, and boot up BG3. I MIGHT play madden when it is on sale for $5 in a few months because of its universally bad criticism, but I don’t know if 5 dollars is worth it. PLEASE DO NOT PAY MONEY FOR THIS GAME! I assure you, you will regret it.

They will make sure to rush you into ultimate team so you can become addicted to buying packs and hoping for a few more good players so you can finally get over that hump and dominate.
You never will. Do this... Go into MUT H2H and set it to friends only. You will see that you AND your friends all win between 45 and 63 winning percentage. By the way, you can check this on any system and any year of ultimate team. That's to encourage you to buy those packs then you wonder why all your reliable players begin to play like garbage as the new card you just upgraded to is absolutely on fire. After a month the new players become trash. Time to upgrade again. In fact you spend money and get cards, do quicksells for training which is a currency that you can't buy in cash but obviously you spent money in some way to get those training points. Also the same with certain holiday promotions. To make one player you have to buy his whole collection of cards. It all adds up but in EAs bank account. The deluxe edition gives you some junk for the ultimate team mode, each loading screen tries to beckon you to ultimate team. Be prepared for glitches, the game will be controlled by pre-programmed animations that take the control away from you so that EA can make sure that everyone has nearly the same record. AGAIN, that ensures that you "believe" that buying a few more players will have you optimistic that you will begin to dominate, but you won't. As an example, you may have Deion Sanders as your #1 cornerback then you buy Sauce Gardner. All of a sudden Deion starts to under perform, time to buy a new #1 corner. This happens all over your roster until the next Madden is released then when it is time for the new Madden to come out EA makes everything essentially free on this one. That serves to give everyone the GOD squad. Everyone has the exact same team which takes the fun out of the game and makes you want to start over on the next edition... Rinse and repeat, year after year.

    1. Its broken by design to anger you when you inevitably lose most games and thus push you into buying more fking virtual cards until they're nerfed and you have to buy more and more and more and more
    2. They have enough paid influencers under their wing who have no problem

Slower, more deliberate, and ultimately much more authentic, Madden 24 feels less arcade-like than it has in years — a welcome return to form for a franchise that practically invented sports simulations. There is still much work to be done, but EA Sports put its focus on the field, and fans have good reason to celebrate.

The excellent on-field action in Madden NFL 24 is badly let down by the performance elsewhere. The menus are in desperate need of an update, and the shallow modes like Madden Ultimate Team and Superstar mode offer little in the way of variation.

Year in and year out, its 3 yard gain on first down then a 10 yard sack on second down and we’re caught in 3rd and long. Just when we think EA is righting the ship on Madden, we get this lazy borderline rerelease of the previous year’s iteration. It’s clear the NFL doesn’t care about the quality of their games, as long as you’re not making “after the play hits” for which the Blitz franchise was famous. No one is holding the developers and publishers accountable anymore and the only way to see change is by voting with your wallet. Don’t buy this year’s release of Madden. Even if you didn’t grab Madden 23 last season, go pick it up used and update the in-game roster. EA should be embarrassed passing along Madden NFL 24 as a brand new release for $70. Enough is enough and it’s time for a change.
