At one point she cannot cope with that, but after few days, she can master her abilities. And somehow everyone has much more emotional depth than Alex even if its her who can empathize with everyone. The ending is terrible and feels rushed as we learn almost nothing new throughout the game, apart of the very last chapters. I've played the game thanks to GamePass and overall enjoyed it very much (much, much less than 2 previous games though), but if I had payed 60USD for that, I would have been extremely mad. The graphics and animations were also amazing, it was definitely an improvement on the franchise, so I'm glad they did motion capture, it made the characters feel alive and real, we could really tell how each character was feeling just from the animation and facial expressions. The main character, Alex, was an amazing character, awesome power (probably the best power in the Life is Strange life franchise), awesome personality (also probably the best main character in the franchise), awesome backstory, awesome design and personally, in my case, I think she was so relatable. The romance in this game was also beautiful (in my case, I romanced Steph) and, once again, motion capture made it even better. The writing in this game was so good, not just the story in general but also the quotes in this game, they were inspiring and gave significant life lessons. The endings were beautiful and I was basicly crying in the end, and once I started a second playthrough when I heard the song "Home" by Gabrielle Aplin, in the beggining of the game, so many good memories, moments in the story, from my first playthrough came to my mind, that It made me cry so hard. I actually want to see Alex again in the future, but anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the next Life is Strange games that Deck Nine will make. Deck Nine, congratulations!!! A game like Life is Strange: True Colors should be running at a solid locked 60 fps at max PC settings on Series X. Unfortuantely, the Series X version is locked to 30 fps, which is absolutely bizarre, and it can't even hold that in open areas.

The developer claims a 30 fps lock was intentional for a "cinematic experience", but I call BS on this. The PC version runs at 60 fps or higher with less powerful hardware. One person was getting up to 100fps with a GTX 1080 Ti, which is inferior compared to what the Series X is running. If the "Cinematic experience" was so integral to the aesthetics of the gameplay, then why wasn't the PC locked to 30 fps as well?

Frankly, this is just a terribly optimized game and there's no valid reason why this shouldn't run at 60 fps at high graphical fidelity when all but a handful of Series S|X games are hitting 1440p or 2160p at 60 fps since the console's launch.

Nobody should buy Life is Strange: True Colors on Series X until the developer fixes this. When you pay full price for a game, you expect it to run well and this game doesn't, regardless of its narrative or gameplay qualities. It's inexcusable.

So first things first, I’ve seen A LOT of people saying this is a “return to form” for the series after LIS2 and I just want to say… huh? What was so different about LIS2 that made y’all not like it? Did we play the same game? Because on some days I prefer LIS2 to the original. Controversial I know, but they’re both masterpieces to me & it’s hard to pick a definitive winner in my mind. Anyway, I’m happy to say that True Colors fixes a lot of the most glaring problems the series has had so far! Eliminated the episodic release structure that I don’t think anybody liked other than it adding to the suspense. Made the graphics FINALLY look up to snuff for a modern day game (I get they have art styles but LIS2 came out like 2 years ago and did not look good half the time on modern consoles, the OG aged even worse) but seriously, True Colors is visually STUNNING to look at and might be one of the best looking games to come out this year! And mostly got rid of a lot of the horrible “teen slang” that plagued the first game and parts of the others. “Are you cereal?” is a line from the first LIS that makes my entire body cringe, seriously nobody talks like that.. Thankfully there isn’t much dialogue in this game that sounds.. like that. As with every LIS game, the atmosphere is immaculate as well, Haven Springs is an adorable small town and that’s high praise from somebody who can’t stand small towns! Colorado is a beautiful state that I’ve been meaning to vacation in someday and I think this game truly sold me on going there sometime soon! The story feels more toned down than the previous entires though, I don’t mind telling a smaller tale but after the huge stakes of the last games, True Colors didn’t take it’s story as far as I wish it could have. The emotional moments are definitely here though! Life is Strange has the rare power to actually make me emotional while playing and they’ve carried through yet again on that, had I not been playing with other people in the room I definitely would've shed a couple tears like I did with previous entries, but I’ll settle for getting choked up! I also felt very attached to a lot of the characters, they all have personalities that set them apart from each other and keep them memorable for the next time you run into them, I ended up caring about what happened to them in the end. But it’s not all perfect in Haven Springs. Like I said, the main story is still good even with smaller stakes and a good mystery at it’s core, but if you’re the type of person who expects the unexpected like I am, you won’t be 100% shocked at the big twist of this game. The romances in previous titles always felt kinda hollow to me, even Max & Chloe & especially in LIS2. I understand romance is far from the point of these games but if you’re gonna have them in the game, make them more important! Also (spoilers maybe?) but the romances in True Colors felt kinda… there just to be there by the end of the game. I loved Steph and Ryan as characters and their romantic scenes were built up so naturally with Alex depending on who you go with but once you make things official with one of them, you only get 2 real scenes with either of them as a couple. I get that there’s more important things going on in the game but this is why I think having longer chapters (and a longer game) would’ve helped flesh out these romances that you build. But even with that being said, I think I still prefer Ryan/Steph over any of the other romances in the LIS series (maybe that will change once I complete Before the Storm). That leads me into my least favorite thing about True Colors, it’s the shortest game in the series by far, I finished it in 7-8ish hours, and that’s with me doing a lot of the side activity stuff during the main chapters. Previous full games were around 15ish hours all together, so I’m not sure if the pandemic affected development & had to cut unfinished corners before the release deadline, or if they just wanted a shorter experience, but the $60 price tag is a bit steep in my opinion despite being a huge fan of this series, I’m pretty sure the previous games were $40 at launch for the full season, so the developers upping the price while making the game about half as short with paid DLC in the future isn’t the best look if I’m being honest.. It’s still worthwhile to play if you’re fan, trust me. Just know that you won’t get as much out of this full experience like you would with the other LIS games. It’s definitely worth playing and experiencing for yourself though, despite bumps in the road I thoroughly enjoyed it & would recommend it to anyone who wants to get into the LIS series! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a long term fan of the series I bought Life is Strange True Colours as quick as I could and the game itself isn't bad but it has several flaws compared to the rest, Firstly it's very short easily the shortest in the series it's barely 8 hours long and that's if you do all the side quests and look for hidden collectable items if you ignore all the side stuff you can probably finish the whole game in about 4-5 hours along with that the power presented in the game just seems so underused, It's barely used throughout the game and even when it is used it just kind of acts as an add on it feels like they made the whole story and they came up with the power after it doesn't help the story in any real significant manner and the power just seems so inconsistent it seems to change at a whim at the start of the game it seems implied that the power can cause Alex to replicate other people's emotions so someone's anger will make her angry and someone's fear will make her scared etc, etc but that only seems to happen in the first episode and it's basically dropped right after from there it turns into an emotion checker of sorts and allows people to see what people are feeling it also seems to at points become a mind reader unlocking information that people are thinking about and also seems to delve into being a mind control power of sorts being able to control what people feel the whole thing seems very strange and inconsistent and with a game so short it doesn't really seems to have time to delve into it at all despite the story really needing that clarification and obviously it does make sense that a character needs to develop their power and they won't instantly know everything about it but it just seems to change as is convenient for the story and it just doesn't make any sense I mentioned before about it acting as a mind reader but it only seems to do that in side stories and it doesn't occur for any of the main characters for some reason probably because this would instantly ruin the story. Now the story is interesting it isn't too bad but it seems like it has a few plot holes here and there and seems to have been inspired heavily by the first game's story only being significantly shorter and it seems like lots of important parts of the story are just missing this will go more into spoilers now in the two last episodes we end up in the office of the therapist Alex went to while in CPS care and it seems implied by the objects in the area that the experience traumatised her somewhat yet it's never really explained much as to what happened you also see the texts at the start of the game about Alex going missing after some kind of incident but it also isn't really explained well and it could be acceptable if they just wanted to ignore the backstory completely but it seems odd to delve into the backstory in the later episodes but then leave key areas unexplained. If your idea of fun is hearing emo characters whine about their tragic pasts and failed relationships and watching lukewarm family drama, you'll love this. I have a hard time articulating why Detroit: Become Human is engaging and provokes genuine emotions while LiS games do not. It's not like David Cage is subtle, but there's something authentic about his games that the LiS series with its soap-opera theatrics fails to generate.

True Colors is definitely better then LiS 2 and BTS, but not better then first LiS. Finally your character have some superpowers like Max in LiS 1. Alex's life story is very good, characters around you are good too. I like this game, but it's not 10/10. Hope we will see another game from this franchise.

Ups and downs There is a common problem with decision making games that Life Is Strange True Colors is not an exception: Your choices don't really matter that much.

Another common issue in this genre is that you're stuck on your character's personally, there ware more then one time that I wanted to give a piece of my mind to another character but the option didn't existed, if you're not gonna make meaningful possibilities for the player to choose don't bother giving depth to side characters.

Visually is almost decent, the details on focus are sharp but things in the background are as low poly as they come, specially pictures, book covers and posters.

The LARP section was absolutely dreadful, I almost gave up on the game because of it, if it was the whole section just like the boss fight I would give a second thought, but it was such a boring and pointless experience that I would gladly pay to skip it

As a fan of Life is Strange, that title didn't please me much. Main point I didn't like: story without depth and short (with Alex's new power, everything seemed very appealing to the feelings, which did not stick one bit). Points I liked: The songs, which many are authorial and even have one of my favorite artists, Phoebe Bridgers.
In addition, the game could perform better on the xbox,

In addition, the game could perform better on the xbox, since on the series S, it does not reach 60fps in performance mode

Amazing storytelling game. Please produce more games like this!! I only wish there was an options setting to make the interactive objects less noticable (i.e. make those white borders disappear) so that the world looks more natural and discovering those items would be more rewarding.

Just an ok game. Not like the first one. They really went off the rails this time.

I actually liked the previous games. A little bit too emo for my tastes but still enjoyable and a really fun concept for exploring the story. In this one, the concept, your power, its not fun at all. And the emo zoomer sensibilities are cranked up to 11. The mystery is not compelling and I could not stand the main character, or any of the characters really. I gave up on it pretty early asI actually liked the previous games. I gave up on it pretty early as it was unbearably sappy and boring. I played the previous titles all the way through and enjoyed, so to get me to quit so early on this installment is quite a feat. One of the worst video game experiences of all time for me, its like being trapped in a floral painted elevator with elevator music on loop until you succumb to death by boredom Expand

Silently sat on the couch, watched the credits while the tears wouldn't stop coming. Not because of a possible particular sad ending or something, but because i couldn't spent more time in this wonderful world that feels like home.

I played this game just to make 1000g, but I was impressed with the story, otherwise, I found it quite boring.

The game performed well on my Series X, the artwork, music and voice acting is of the usual high calibre and fans of the universe will find this entry as enjoyable to play as any of the others that have gone before it.

True Colors is everything a game in its genre should be: A well written story, with lovable characters, in a small town made from Hallmarks wet dreams. The perfect pace of the story and the social issues are just the icing on the cake.

Life is Strange: True Colors confirms the excellent skills of Deck Nine, giving us an interesting title with very nice characters, an interesting plot and powers that dig into human emotions. It' s not a masterpiece and it doesn't reach the standards of the first LiS, but it's still a great title for those who love the series and who appreciate narrative adventures.
