PROJECT ZERO : Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a very scary, very compelling game that, even with a couple of control niggles, is still more than worth a play. The atmosphere that is summoned up is great, as are the ghosts and the story, but an overhaul of the controls would have been welcome.

The game is an excellent throwback to a lost time in survival horror history and every fan of the genre owes it to themselves to check it out. It’s refreshing to see a game relying on ghosts as its primary source of scares after many monstrous horrors have run around the genre lately. And be in no doubt, this is a scary game. These ghosts want you to join their less-than-alive existence, and you’ll have to brave all kinds of spooks to avoid that fate.

A slow-paced, languid horror remaster, Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is not only a chance for western players to finally play a Japan-only entry in the series, but it's also a haunted house experience that delivers on creepiness.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a fun romp through old fashioned Japanese horror. The atmosphere is lovely, the story is interesting, and though the gameplay might wear down a bit over time, it’s a unique survival horror game that I can recommend to anyone.

Project Zero Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is probably one of the best episodes in the long-running horror franchise, and even if this remaster leaves something to be desired, it does not fail in brining bringing anxiety and disturbing matters to new audiences.

Mask of the Lunar Eclipse mixes fiction and folklore in a blend that can entertain and frighten even 15 years after its original release. The remaster could have been technically better, but at its core, it's still a good game, of which there are not many on the market today. The biggest problem now is mainly the clumsy and awkward controls.

When you take Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse like a B horror movie, it's OK.

Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a good horror game. For the first time, we can enjoy the title in the West, and we will do so with a series of playable and technical improvements that make it the best version of the title. This is a classic horror experience, with all the good and bad that goes with it.

Mask of the Lunar Eclipse continues the path of what was seen in Black Water. It is a classic horror game that continues to offer that touch of before.

The unexpected arrival of a new episode of Project Zero, 15 years after its debut in Japan, in a reworked version translated into French, may delight us to the highest degree, but above all it highlights the urgency of modernizing the gameplay from the series. As it stands, this remaster is therefore only intended for fans of the franchise who have been waiting for a long time for an opportunity to discover this fourth opus.

I'm glad I finally got the opportunity to indulge in the fourth instalment of this beloved game series even though it really feels like it's old at its core, with the problems from that era of messy game mechanics and frustrating backtracking clearly shining through.

Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a reasonably decent time if you can come to terms with its plodding traversal, clunky gameplay mechanics and repetitive exploration. There's an enjoyable mystery to uncover at the heart of this one, it's got some genuine scares along the way, snapping ghouls is as fun as ever and the whole thing has a deeply unsettling vibe that still feels unique to the franchise. However, as far as remasters go, beyond a bit of a visual revamp, it feels like additional work could have been done to make this remastered version of the game feel like a more modern and polished survival horror experience.

In the end, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is nice to see. I love that the series is making a comeback. I just wish we could get the original trilogy on modern consoles. Those games are lost to time and would benefit from just a remaster at this point. Still more survival horror is always welcome and we are truly living in an embarrassment of riches in the genre. I wish it was on the same level as others coming back, but for that we need the original trilogy. Make it happen KOEI Tecmo!

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a disappointing remaster that fails to hide its age under the pretty mask of shiny new character models. While the concept and story are intriguing, they’re impossible to enjoy when you have to wade through the awkward, clunky gameplay at such a snail’s pace. This one was better left on the Wii.

This remaster finally brings the fourth Fatal Frame game to the west, but the problem is it was a clunky game in 2008 and its upgrades aren't enough to improve its frustrating feel in any meaningful way.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is an amazing horror game that I can't recommend enough. The story is full of mystery and suspense, andFatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is an amazing horror game that I can't recommend enough. The story is full of mystery and suspense, and the graphics are incredibly detailed and atmospheric. You play as one of three protagonists, each with their own unique abilities, as you explore the eerie and dangerous environment of a cursed Japanese village. The game features haunting music and sound effects, as well as incredibly disturbing monster designs. Combat is intense and requires strategy, as you must use your Camera Obscura to capture the souls of the malevolent spirits that lurk in the shadows. The puzzles are also challenging, but rewarding when solved. Overall, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is an unforgettable horror experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good scare. Full Review »
