Dredge is a fishing adventure with a sinister undercurrent. Sell your catch, upgrade your vessel and dredge the depths for long-buried relics. Explore the stories of the strange locals and discover why some things are best left forgotten.
Someone wants very badly to retrieve relics lost to the ocean floor. The work is lucrative, but can you trust them? What will they use the relics for? And will they ever be satisfied?

It's not just the sharp rocks and shallow reefs you need to watch out for - keep your eyes on the depths below and the sky above. The biggest threat to your safety might come from within.

We want to play a double-bill of DREDGE and Moonglow Bay. Because while Moonglow Bay is the positive, life-affirming and wistful side of fishing, DREDGE is the opposite. It is monstrously gorgeous, hideously compelling, and has our fingernails down to bloody ends. We’re going to need to update that best fishing games list.

With impeccable Lovecraftian vibes and a sinister story underlying the simple fishing game I thought it was, DREDGE was a masterclass on worldbuilding, suspense and fear - without gore and violence. DREDGE never really strays from what makes it great. It’s a tight indie title that knows what it is and executes it to perfection. I’ve never played anything like it before and I am beyond thankful that I was able to review this gem. DREDGE It’s definitely one of the best games I’ve played this year, maybe even the best. I’d even hazard to say it’s quite the catch.

Dredge is an absolute gem. It features a rich, compelling narrative alongside an excellent gameplay and upgrade loop. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and has an excellent narrative. It is a game that you should not miss.

It's impossible not to get caught in Dredge's clutches: supernatural horror, dry and fascinating narrative and an intoxicating gameplay loop make Black Salt Games' first effort an indie to remember.

DREDGE is an experience that shimmers amidst the swell of the unknown with a mesmerising light that induces both attraction and chills.

Dredge manages to layer great exploration, a punishing and ominous gameplay loop, and an intriguing story on top of a very good fishing sim. It constantly and expertly switches between wholesome and haunting, and is definitely worth a play despite a few small issues.

Blending fishing with Gothic horror and Lovecraft is a fine hook, but Dredge is too defined by simple loot-and-upgrade rhythms to reel you in.

At the start of the game, the ocean feels vast and unforgiving. Each new island feels like it’s on the other side of the planet but as you progress you unlock travel options that make those journeys much shorter. You go from only being able to carry a few small fish to being able to fish the size of sharks. As you near the end game, fishing and money mostly become irrelevant unless certain fish are needed to progress.

My only criticism was a quality of life one. About halfway through Dredge, you’re able to buy an item that allows you to create shortcuts. This should be incredibly handy but the issue I had was that this item could only be bought one at a time. Only after enough time had passed could you purchase another. While not a huge deal, it made traversal and backtracking in several spots a bit more tedious than it needed to be. I am unsure why this item had a restriction put on it as it was very cheap compared to other items and only had one use meaning it was very difficult to run out or waste.

Outside of this issue I had a great time with Dredge and did not expect a spooky fishing game to be both addicting and fun while also having a great narrative.
