    Despite a welcoming graphical style, Demon Turf prides itself on the type of challenging gameplay that defined the platforming genre in years past, and that excludes a whole host of potential players as a result. Anyone looking for simple fun rather than a new obsession will find only frustration in Demon Turf's platforming layouts and its checkpoint system - even as they take in the impressive visuals and funky soundtrack. Demon Turf feels like a missed opportunity for its engaging, interesting new world to be catered to such a niche audience. Perhaps these lost levels can give way to an adventure with Beebz that's more up to speed with the general public, but for now, Demon Turf is well worth a try for hardcore platforming fans and difficult to recommend for those less fond of the genre.

    Despite these flaws, Demon Turf is still an incredible platformer - one of the best in years. It's easy to learn but hard to master and is filled with content ranging from easy challenges to devilishly challenging gauntlets. With such a fine-tuned platforming experience, it's easy to overlook the boring combat and performance hiccups. While the latter will most likely be ironed out, the combat is here to stay, but if you can get past that hurdle, Demon Turf is a joyous throwback to the platformers of old.

    It's been a long time since I had this much fun with a video game. It's difficult in the exact right way, the visuals while simplistic areIt's been a long time since I had this much fun with a video game. It's difficult in the exact right way, the visuals while simplistic are very striking and before you know it you've spend a half hour trying to get that perfect trophy. Main character Beebz has a wide and diverse move set, although the game never forces you to make use of it which is kind of a shame. However, what it does do is create perfect opportunities for shortcuts. Level order is kind of weird. You visit a desert, a jungle, a city and a mountain in that order. If I had any say in it, I would swap desert with jungle and city with mountain. But that's quite frankly a nitpick.

    There are two set of levels for each world, your first and second visit. The first is what you would expect, the second are remix missions that'll make use of your new gadget. You have to know this to understand my next point.

    The mountain was a bit disappointing. While they were by no means bad levels, they were less memorable than the stages that came before it. This is caused by the exceptionally great levels of the city. When the game nose dives though, is when you get your last gadget. This is a freeze time device, which sounds cool in theory. Once you have to use it though, it's horrible. The effect itself isn't, more the aiming that I wasn't able to figure out. This caused to me rage quit the trophies at the last remix levels. The last level and the final boss are no cake walk either.

    The absolute highlight of this game, is the Remix version of Urbztops. You're supposed to find 8 keys hidden in a sandbox. It was really cool coming up with the most 'efficient' way to get al the keys for the trophy.

    Should you buy this game? If you're into platformers, this should be a no brainer. Haven't I convinced you just yet, guess what!? You can download a demo with the first two levels. If you still don't like it, you just saved yourself 25 bones. But again, for 25 it's literally a steal.    … Full Review »
