If you enjoy demanding titles that force you to manage resources, play carefully, and stay calm in the face of intense boss battles, Cronos: The New Dawn is a game you shouldn't miss. For me, it's one of the big surprises of this year on Xbox.

With Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team delivers its most accomplished work yet: a gripping survival horror with a masterful artistic vision, shaped by both past experiences and genre classics. Set in 1980s Kraków under Russian occupation, the game shifts into a nightmarish, oppressive reality. Its demanding mechanics and outstanding art direction make it one of the most intense horror experiences in recent years - unmissable.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a striking survival horror experience that excels in atmosphere, storytelling, and exploration, immersing players in a bleak yet captivating world. While combat pacing and resource frustration prevent it from reaching absolute greatness, its strengths far outweigh its flaws.

Overall, Cronos: The New Dawn is a fantastic survival horror that should be played by fans of RE4 and Dead Space. I was very impressed with the Silent Hill 2 remake and feel that SH2 remake is a better game than Cronos, but Cronos impresses me more since it’s an original franchise that Bloober didn’t have source material on. It would be awesome to see this as the start of the a new franchise for Bloober. Cronos definitely is a game that I’d like to see a sequel to down the road. Good job on this Bloober!

I was initially unsure of Cronos: The New Dawn, and after the first few enemy encounters, I had a feeling that we just weren’t going to get on. This is a hardcore game, and at times you’ll be left frustrated, annoyed, and want to cry. BUT when it clicks, when you beat an enemy or a boss, and when you make progress, Cronos delivers a brilliant feeling. And be sure, you will want to progress in order to find out what has happened in this world, who you are and why you are here...Cronos: The New Dawn is a cracking new IP from an excellent game developer.

Cronos: The New Dawn isn't the masterpiece it was hoped for, but it's a crucial milestone in Bloober Team's evolution. At times frenzied, often distressing, it embodies the sincere desire of a studio determined to overcome its mistakes and forge a true identity, even if its homages remain too obvious. A demanding, slow, and heavy survival horror, it doesn't seek to seduce but to oppress. An experience that is especially striking for its mastery of the codes of a genre that its creators now know like the back of their hand.

For those that relish this style of survival horror, there is fun to be had in Cronos: The New Dawn, but only for a time.

As much a victim of greater survival horror games as it is an oasis in a desert of unique survival horror experiences, Cronos: The New Dawn tries its best to evoke the atmosphere and dread that put the genre on the map. However, what lingers is the stench of a lack of effort, as there are various instances where you’ll be reminded of the greatness of the survival horror classics that came before, while you discover the myriad of ways Cronos falters in its attempts to shock and scare you. There are decent boss fights, excellent presentation, and decent weapons, but its workmanlike protagonist and weak conventional enemies keep this promising double A horror on a leash, when it really should’ve broken the chains and unleashed itself impressively upon every genre fan. Cronos is good enough, but it really should’ve been so much more.

Uncompromising, Cronos: The New Dawn stands out as a demanding survival horror game aimed at purists. The beauty of its retro-futuristic universe, its gloomy and chilling atmosphere all wrapped up in a compelling narrative that unfolds across multiple timelines are quite captivating. Its clever mechanics, such as time paradoxes, corpse fusion, and rigorous resource management inject constant and oppressive tension that act as a nice homage to Dead Space. Despite its sometimes frustrating rigidity and demanding combat, the title offers a dark and intense immersive experience that will delight fans of the genre.
