May 22, 2026I wasn't sure what to expect from Bubsy 4D, and I'm someone who was excited to play it. The platformer genre is arguably in a golden age, with Nintendo firing on all cylinders following Super Mario Odyssey and Donkey Kong Bananza. Sony's been in on the action with the 2024 Game of the Year winner, Astro Bot. To see Bubsy finally overcome its infamous legacy and deliver a fun, albeit flawed, experience has me hopeful that Atari will build on what's a solid foundation in place and give a possible Bubsy sequel the polish and investment that could truly (I can't believe I'm saying this), make it great. For now, though, despite its flaws, you can't go wrong with Bubsy 4D, especially at that discounted price.

Jun 9, 2026Only time will tell if Bubsy manages to capitalize on Bubsy 4D, but it’s a solid entry for a franchise that has struggled to make it in the 3D space.

May 22, 2026A welcome flourish of invention runs through the gameplay, making this the best-playing Bubsy, despite a few snags.

May 26, 2026In my opinion 3D platformers are tough to nail. The ones that do live on and those that don’t, get forgotten about. I think Bubsy will see a short stay, but it’s not polished so much for the long haul. And maybe that’s the Bubsy way. If not for the controller issues I had, it’d be a really fun recommendation for more but for now, I’d probably just give this one to those orange bobcat aficionados.

May 21, 2026Without question, Bubsy 4D is the best game in the franchise, but that's a pretty low bar to cross. It’s a perfectly fine platformer that fans of 3D platformers will likely enjoy messing around with for a few hours. However, it’s hard not to feel disappointed when there’s evidently a much better Bubsy game buried somewhere within Bubsy 4D that we only get to glimpse at. Maybe next time.

May 28, 2026Overall, Bubsy 4D had my attention and when it hits, it is fun to play. Sadly, most of the time it just isn’t. I tried very hard to love this game, and while it is the best Bubsy game to date, it still falls short to most similar platformers. Thirty plus years later I am still waiting for the Bubsy game that will be considered a classic, but at this point I feel it just might not be in the cards for everyone’s favorite bobcat.

May 29, 2026Bubsy 4D is, straight up, a bad time. It’s fun to jump around a little bit and play with the tools you get, but in a fleeting, shallow way that isn’t enough to sustain a multi-hour platforming video game. There’s nothing to do with those tools, no practical application that’s actually fulfilling for the other parts of your brain you want to use in games like this. It almost feels like a tech demo, a demonstration that it’s possible to redo Bubsy 3D in a way that doesn’t feel like the controller you’re holding is a hunk of radioactive alien detritus not meant for human hands. But the rest of it just isn’t there.
