Putting Eric’s handling aside, I had a great time with Boyfriend Dungeon. It’s a low-stress series of engaging dates and the character artwork, voices and music are superb. The combat could be tightened, but bouncing back and forth between the dunj and the attractive cast was exactly the kind of easygoing experience I was wanting, and after rolling credits I’d say that Boyfriend Dungeon’s attempt at genre fusion was a successful one.

Boyfriend Dungeon is an enjoyable genre hybrid with charming characters, it fails however to fulfill its rogue-lite potential.

Boyfriend Dungeon is not a deep, refined or varied game. Yet it offers a mix between dating simulator and dungeon crawler that works, in its own lightness.

The dates are the culmination of this strange, yet endearing and fresh combination between a dating sim and dungeon crawler. The battles and dungeons leave a lot to be desired, but the cheerfulness and fine characters stick with it the most.

I am all for inclusivity, but not belonging to a different group, the dialogue was terrible and many times made me feel uncomfortable. There was no ability to just play the game and get past the constant "inclusiveness" being shoved down your throat that may actually isolate the player.

The gameplay itself is very basic roguelite gameplay that brings nothing new or exciting to the table. At this time I can I wouldn't recommend this game. There are much better out there for the same price. I gave it a 3 because its not worth playing, but it's also not glitchy or a cash grab or anything that makes it unplayable.

The gameplay itself was passable, but again, hampered because of the character choices/motivations/story.

I can't rate this any higher or lower. Sincere effort went behind crafting this game, which should be applauded, but this game just wasn't made for someone like me. I wish best of luck to the game and it's developers, and I hope they find the right audience that would appreciate this game.

Boyfriend Dungeon fails on so many things that it's hard to decide where to start.

As a dungeon crawler, it's dull and repetitive. It's not a roguelike, nor a roguelite. Just an easy and standard dungeon crawler.

As a dating sim, it's limited and awkward at times. The stereotypes presented were poor to say the least. Only two characters were likeable, and even those are not remarkable.

The story is a mess and the technical aspects (music and graphics) are only "acceptable". At least it's a short game, so I could go through it entirely without wasting a lot of time.

Seriously, other studios have done much better on products that target the LGBTQ+ audience. As a game, it fails miserably. It's like a duck that can fly, walk and swim but doesn't do any of those things well.
