Borderlands 4 builds on the foundations that made the franchise so successful in the first place, while seeking to broaden its horizons. With a darker narrative approach and more ambitious staging, it attempts to fuse its fidelity to the saga's essence with modernised gameplay. The pace of the quests, exploration and activities on this new planet, as well as the character development, add real richness, but some mechanics remain rigid and the repetitiveness inherent to the genre is still present. Oscillating between artistic ambition and a few technical limitations, the title stands out as a solid instalment, without revolutionising the formula.
