    I often times will defend a developer based on the sole fact that I know the devs are usually just following orders and it isn't really their fault. In this case, while I feel the same, I think it is a known issue with DICE and EA that the development staff is not properly heard when it comes to the state of the game.

    There has never been a more understandable time to delay a product. Companies have been trying to so hard to feign ignorance of that and claim that the game will come out right when everyone first thought it would and that just isn't the case anymore. This game needed another 6 months, easy. A year would've made this THE Battlefield to beat. More playtesting. More network/beta tests. Halo is raising the bar for what is expected and what CAN BE DONE when you give the game time to blossom.

    To corroborate my experience: some games I can't start (Breakthrough, mainly) because it just doesn't load the game. Often times my customizations for my character will be wiped when a game starts and all of my loadout options are blank. I try to hold RB to access my radial menu and it flickers before turning off. 50% of the time I can't revive someone as no prompt is shown. The hit registration might as well not exist, and some weapons are just clearly imbalanced. As I said, this would have been a perfect experience in a years time. I can't recommend this right now.

    For the first time in a very, very long time, I genuinely felt cheated by buying into this game. By the time it is worth the money I invested in it, it will be 1/4 of the price. I'm definitely salty.    … Expand

    Overall for anyone on the fence, BF2042 is currently not in what i would call a good state. I am speaking from only a few days after launch and it was so frustrating i sold it and brought the pc version instead.

    Thankfully that version is quite playable. Its a shame but im sure with more time in the oven dice can get this fixed but for now i would just avoid this hot mess of an experience!    … Expand

    DICE should be so ashamed. I paid $100 for this piece of **** and it was so bad I had to uninstall after a couple weeks. I'll never even start the battle passes I purchased and I'll never pre-order from DICE ever again.

    It has the worst maps in all of Battlefield, hardly any weapons, the operators are cringey and out of place in a game with 120 players, and it's insanely glitchy. I    DICE should be so ashamed.     I do really like the new plus system, some of the new operator abilities like the grapple, and the graphics (sometimes) are incredible, but the little good there is, is surrounded in **** It is worth noting however, that they are improving it.     I have a series x and my friend has Xbox one and I’m forced to play the last gen version of the game to play with him which obviously sucks. The characters that you have to choose from look dumb as hell like they were picked at some woke diversity meeting and not battle hardened war veterans. There is to many people on one map. You can’t take five steps with out being killed. Waste of money

    The game is very bad and the multiplaye is misery and the mods are confusing and conquest maps is very big and there is no Time Deathmatch and no Conquest small maps.the game is very bad and sucks and disaster

It recently got added to Game Pass and it's undeniably much better than it was, but is still quite easily one of the worst Battlefield games ever. It's just not very enjoyable.     My favourite battlefield since Bad company 2. It has bugs for sure. Could do with more weapons BUT- portal has weapons from multiple generations. More destructible environments BUT- the most destructible levels seen in previous titles are in portal. Needs a class system BUT- each operator belongs to a class. Love this game, needs work but it's so damn fun and doesn't get enough credit.My favourite battlefield since Bad company 2. It has bugs for sure.     Third, gameplay. It's boring. Maps are HUGE and most of the combat usually happened somewhere in the middle while the rest of the area is abandoned. Map design produces total chaos of those certain spots of a battlefield, and sometimes it is not fun at all. Tornadoes and stuff, for instance, are more like just visual effect than actual game-changer like some of levolutions in BF4 or behemoths from BF1 were. Hazard Zone is just pathetic, Dice should remove it and rework. Oh yes, no voice chat.
    Fourth, I played on Series S, and on that machine, 2042 looks not good at all. Runs smoothly at stable 60 fps but textures and resolution are blurry and have sharp edges especially on long-range objects. I believe that Series S can do it better if developers optimize the game.
    Finally, maybe in the future 2042 became a really good game. But right now it's just an unfinished shooter with a lot of troubles and mediocre game design.    … Expand

    I think the game is fun, have played it since early release (gold edition) and have had many fun hours. but of course it needs to be "fixed a bit" in the form of bugs among other things. but the only thing I reacted to is that it does not always feel completely optimized. I highly recommend the game and it can only get better.

    For now I will the game a generous 4 but there is still work to be done. As of the most recent patch they fixed you not being able to revive teammates and increased server stability. However there are some glaring bugs and issues such as the character hit box's, almost no destruction, game crashes trying to pull up pause or leaderboard menu's, and also when you revive a teammate theFor now I will the game a generous 4 but there is still work to be done.     Not a great game. Needed at least another year. Its sound design and graphics are mostly a downgrade from the previous games. The weapons don't feel anywhere near as good as the previous games either. The time to kill in this game is also too long which is why I play in milsim servers on Battlefield Portal. The game desperately needed another year, if only to fix the map sizes. The specialists are also a bit boring and don't work very well in this game.
    Overall, this game is very bad and my least favourite in the franchise. However, there is some fun to be had just not in any of the modes that DICE made. I highly recommend going to the portal and searching for milsim servers. They are a lot of fun. I wouldn't recommend buying this game at full price because it simply isn't worth it, when its on sale you should pick it up though. There is some fun to be had.    … Expand

    Vanguard is bad. I thought that BF will shut cod mouth. but they did such a big mistake with publish this game. i had fun ok but it wasnt worth 70$. Performance is bad. Grahpic is fine but i feel that im playing in alpha version. they tried to make something else but they were lost in this. sad dice

    Main problem as Xbox players is that there's no Xbox player match available while cross play off.. fingers crossed

    Like BF5 this game has a lot of potential to be a great and fun game. The gun play is great and it's as chaotic as every pervious BF game. It's just a shame that the game is moving into a wrong direction, by removing core features that make a battlefield game a battlefield game, and trying to monetize the game instead of focussing on what players really want.     I downloaded the game because it's part of of xbox's game pass, would I have paid the full price, I would have been very disappointed. With BFV and BF2042 moving towards a different direction I think the franchise is losing a lot of BF fans, including me. So I will keep playing BF4 for as long as the few servers are available.    … Expand

    What A Time To Be Alive! When they release trash like this and market it as wonderful… I love a good BF game and BF4 is still one of my favorite games ever. That said this is a good looking disaster of a game. It’s always fun to run around and shoot each other in any game so take that away and focus on tactics, map design, and gameplay. Lack of weapons, maps, modes, chat, destructibility , not even a scoreboard? (Can’t hurt the snowflakes feelings) and pretty much any real reason to play more than 10-20 hrs at best.     Squad features missing, no scoreboards, poor UI, no server browser and these are just a few problems with the game so far.
    Hard to say this is a Battlefield game, no iteration on previous titles here, just a gutting of a favored franchise.

    Lacking leader boards, there's barely any destruction on maps and it's filled with bugs like not being able to revive team mates, and team mates not showing markers so you think they are enemies. There's also only 2 game modes on All Out Warfare and the load out menu is terrible. Don't buy this game yet, it's not worth it.

    Game needed more time in the oven but hey gotta please the shareholders. All out Warfare is ok and Hazard Zone is such a joke. It shoulda been free. The game’s saving grace is Portal. However I don’t know how long people will stick around to play portal. The fact that older BF games are more popular than the new game mode shows that Dice is unable to make a new battlefield game.

    Maps are dull, vehicle op, not well balanced or thought out Bf3/bad company 2 on the 360 had more destructable environments, compare the tornado in bf2042 and the storm on bf4 on the level with islands, you would think bf2042 was on ps4/xbox one and bf4 was on ps5/xbox series x.     The jet flying mechanics are garbage compared to previous titles, the rubber banding makes it impossible to dogfight, the hitreg is broken.
    Bring back the old classes (RECON, ENGINEER, MEDIC, SUPPORT).
    They delayed the game and didn't added a campaign for this?
    I give this game a 3 because portal is worth it

    I always had fun playing these games. This one, not so much. It is a beautiful game, graphically. I spawn. Run for 3-5 minutes to catch up with the action. Fire my gun and get killed and repeat. I feel like majority of my time is running to a fight. Their isn't enough vechiles. They are always not available. EA missed the mark on this one. They could of just made a modern Battlefield 5 andI always had fun playing these games. This one, not so much. It is a beautiful game, graphically. I spawn. I've been a battlefield fan since battlefield 2 (2005) and I have witnessed all the crappy lunches of all the series, THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT! The problem in 2042 is the core game itself and it's design, And this can't be reversed with a patch or update. The aiming, movement, environment, weapons, vehicles and the sandbox feeling allDon't be a fool like me to throw 120$ for this trash game.     This game feels like a cheap attempt to cash-in on the Overwatch hero system to sell skins to rich children. The game is buggy and the class system is gone, along with destructions and weapon variety in order to get the game out before the holidays. This used to be my favorite multiplayer series but I can no longer support it. Save your money and time and don't but this title.

    Specialists are just meh, creates a meta game, would of been better having the original class system and placing specialists on there respective class you no longer have a clue who has ammo or health.
    No scoreboard or stats screen? Why?
    What has happened to platoons?
    22 guns? 2 of Which are shotguns?
    Conquest is pretty much running simulator2042 so much dead space on the map.
    Breakthrough if you can get in a game that's not broken it's decent.

    What happened to he other game modes like QBC no vehicles? All we get in "all out warfare" is running sim and breakthrough.

    Hazardzone it's a waste of time and boring.
    Portal is fun but due to the abuse of xp farming you no longer earn xp in portal so now that's a waste of time playing.

    The game has some great potential to be a great game but the lack of polish this game released with is a joke even after a month delay to make sure it was polished and ready. Should of been delayed until 2022. dead space on the maps    … Expand

    Destruction is still cool, and in the end I have to give the creators credit for the fact that the much marketing-washed akedo has its moments. Everything else that made a good Battlefield is completely missing, and that chase for record-breaking size or player count is really a poor substitute for well-designed maps, rich content in the form of game modes, and certainly no substitute for the original class system that the gameplay has always relied on in the first place.     Battlefield 2042 is a huge disappointment for gamers and the Battlefield franchise. Had this been the product of an indie developer, then this might be a different story as it would be understandable how a game like this could be the product of an independent studio that doesn’t have enormous corporate backing. Instead, EA pumped more resources into creating a CGI film that acts as the only real source of storyline context than ensuring the game was going to live up to the enormous amount of hype they were trying to create. I hate saying such negative things in my reviews, but when a game developer can’t be bothered to even try and live up to it’s own legacy, then I have to call it as I see it and for that very reason, I don’t recommend this game. Not even the nostalgia or temptation of ‘Battlefield Portal’ is enough to save this game from itself.

    Battlefield 2042 absolutely should have been pushed back by EA and DICE to some point in 2022. Instead, the version of this game that is currently available has been virtually unplayable for me at times since first releasing. Even beyond this, though, some of the key design changes that DICE has made in Battlefield 2042 don't feel for the better. Rather than improving on the core Battlefield experience that fans loved with Battlefield 3, 4, or Bad Company 2, 2042 is a bloated husk of its former self that is trying to recapture some semblance of its previous glory. As a fan that has been playing this series for well over a decade, Battlefield 2042 is a massive disappointment that I struggle to think is even worth saving.
