Now, if you are someone who has not really enjoyed any AC games since AC 3, take my advice and i mean it, please just give up this series, it's clearly not for you. I personally absolutely, deeply hate Assassin's Creed 3, i have played it only 1 time and i will absolutely never play it again. It takes you 7 hours to play as actual main character while doing most boring missions possible. Just no. While i have finished Unity, Black Flag and Origins at least 3 times. So there's that. I personally really like Valhalla and it reminds me these three games i mentioned. It's not me trying to hate people who like AC 3, even tho i'm very, very tired of them whining about Desmond's death, but again, if you don't like these new games, just give it up. That's it. But to other millions of fans who have played and enjoyed this series past 7 years i would recommend this! All the classic elements like hood, hidden blade, one shot assassinations are back. They removed all the grind from Odyssey, you get 2 skill-points at the time and it's very easy to get them. Story is interesting, characters are likable, graphics look incredible. That's all i have to say. Expand

Or maybe he is just tired of these huge game-worlds, i guess that happens when you start taking gaming as a job, instead of fun hobby. This one has million times more interesting content than Miles Morales, so i guess if someone just wants games to be quickly over, then Miles Morales is better choice. Digging this game's tone way more than i did with Odyssey. Odyssey was little bit too similar in all places. Everything was bright and colorful. Valhalla is very different in that regard. It's crazy how evil and tasteless some people can be. Ubisoft takes years to make these amazing game and all they get back is some whining losers who give them 0 out of 10. Great game.

11/20/20-12/18/20 (108hrs.) Finished everything in the game 100%, but not as great as I'd hoped it would be (I did have very high expectations). I definitely loved the Order of the Ancients hunting, the combat, and the abilities, as well as the Norse Mythology sections (Asgard and Jotenhiem), but the main story was dull and way too long.

Overall story (spoiler-free): Eivor is a viking

I definitely loved the Order of the Ancients hunting, the combat, and the abilities, as well as the Norse Mythology sections (Asgard and Jotenhiem), but the main story was dull and way too long.

Overall story (spoiler-free): Eivor is a viking that gets sick of his/her homeland and runs off to England to set up a new home with his/her brother. England being separated into four kingdoms at the time has a bit of a mixed reaction to the new arrivals, but each kingdom has problems to solve, so he/she gets down to business of being helpful/murdering people.

Hardly any memorable side characters by the end, but I really really hope they get rid of Layla Hassaan. I didn't ever like the modern day sections in any AC game, even when it was Desmond Miles as the protagonist. I don't want to hear Shaun and Rebecca's eye-rolling banter or the extremely wooden acting of the lady that voices Layla.

I did like Eivor himself (as I played it), the Norse accent was spot on to my ear and his interactions made him seem very human and compassionate toward people in need, while also being a monster on the battlefield.

Clearly the lady Eivor is the preffered character for at least part of the story, as one whole chapter is dedicated to a very forced romance with a male character from Eivor's past. I have no problem at all with any gender relationship combination, but I've never seen a romance so forced into a story. They don't give you the option to shut it down until you've already been forced to flirt for a few hours. Romance in video games is already really weird and sketchy, you do not have to have romance in an AC story at all and it would be better for it.

The abilities were done really well, in that you have to find books in the game world to unlock them. So you really have incentive to search for more than just crafting materials. Particularly memorable abilities like throwing a rope spear to pull someone to you (Scorpion-style!) or summoning a wolf never got old through over a hundred hours. On top of a polished version of the combat that has been continually improved in the more recent AC games, I was often switching weapon combinations and builds to see which was the most fun, and they all held my interest for long periods of gameplay. The dual-wielding is an excellent addition as well.

The armor system is also quite improved from previous games by giving you less overwhelming options and making armor and weapons feel unique and worth upgrading. I wouldn't change a thing there, although my favorite armor (Berserker) was a microtransaction, so you can't win em' all.

There were a few glitches, which may be patched out over time. Quite a bit of awkward incorrect pronouns as male Eivor and the classic AC jumping in to thin air when you clearly didn't want to. Also had a glitch with Eivor staying in 'drunk mode' every time I loaded a save and the music getting stuck on the dramatic battle soundtrack. I did also lose a little progress due to a door not having an interaction icon when it should have.

I will be playing the DLC (Ireland and the Druids sounds too cool to miss) but I think the thing that would have made the game way better would be to cut the story down a bit. There is a lot of fluff that gets very boring and it outshines the climactic and exciting moments.

If you're okay with a long experience and the RPG Assassin's Creed games, this is a no-brainer. I'm 55 hours into my first playthrough and still loving every moment. Very occasional bugs compared to previous AC games and a beautifully crafted story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s obvious that an enormous amount of work has gone into making this game. The graphics and sound are absolutely stunning and the developers have obviously put a lot of thought into the characters, plot and activities in an effort to keep the player engaged. The only thing I would say is that the game is too long. I have been played for about 100 hours. I don’t think I’m anywhere near completing the overarching quest and now I’m a bit bored. The only other negative is that the some of the side activities are rather “silly” and or immature. For example, the owner of a fox who thinks it’s a dog. Expand

Assassins Creed is my favrotie series of all time, so im harder on this series than I am with any other game.. and while Valhalla is a great game and my score will reflect that, as an assassins creed game, assassins creed Valhalla isa complete disappointment.
Here you play as avore, becauseubisoft cares more about its precious sales you chose either man version or female version because ubisoft is afraid to commit and want to make everyone happy.. you set off on a Viking adventure to basically take over England during the dark ages.. and sadly this is more of a Viking game with assassins creed mechanics rather than an assassins creed game where you play as a Viking, the lore of the Templars and the assassins is there.. infct the whole uncovering the order side thing odyssey had going on is valhallas main focus, and I love that… however the game built around it is the most hallow money grab of a game in probably the entire assassins creed series… they sold you on Vikings, rob and pillage, this is fun about 0 times, its never fun going into an area for a raid, opening chests and collecting all of the loot, its repetive and bland, and that can be said for the entire game… im one to uncover every inch of an assassins creed game, read very document, platinum it.. but assassins creed Valhalla is so hollow that I found myself skipping through a lot of its dialog as the story is broken up into individual kingdoms you go out and help… this is less of an assassins creed game, you know.. a game where you relive memories of someone that was supposed to have actually existed to learn more about the orer and the places of the pieces of edden, and just a boring Viking game where you go from kingdom to kingdom taking care of that kingdoms individual problems, it’s a 70 hour long game of individual mini stories that by themselves could be okay experiences, but in an assassins creed game they feel like a waste of time not adding anything to the overall world of assassins creed, no one will remember Valhalla as a step forward for the series, infact in a lot fof places Valhalla steps back, for example its loot, there is next to none, yet you still collect it from time to time, its such an awkward system that you forget there are other weapons and armorus you can pick up.. youll mpost likely stick to the first or second piece of gear you find in the game and stick to that all the way through, especially thanks to the grind heavy upgrading system here that require a ridiculous amount of recourses to upgrade weapons… where Valhalla steps forward though is you making choices that actually matter, your choices have consequences, you have different paths with different characters you can go down that don’t feel empty like odyssey did.. but back to the intial point, this is great if assassins creed were an rpg seres set in different time periods… but its not, its meant to be an experience of a story already told, not an unwritten story of your grandpa and you get to chose if he banged other Vikings or not… tell me if avor was gay or not, don’t let me chose, again.. commit to a character, tell me their story… this is not a solution to the story telling critques players have.. this is assassins creed, not dragon age.. tell me the story as it happened… but this is thebiggest assins creed game to date, though bigger isn’t always better, another first, this s the first time I gave up on collecting all the things in an assassins creed game, for one,, again the world felt boring pointless and hallow, even the side quests that were supposed to be the talk of the town, except for the mini game orlog, it had its hooks in me like gwent, and I love hunting down the zealots of the land, bringing my back to the original assassins creed.. but the colelctables here, the game just makes you work too hard to get, one too many are locked behind story progress – why even put it on the map then… and evry other one ios locked behing an environment puzzle.. I don’t mind this eveyr once in a while , but map cleaning in assassins creed is a form of meditation, if I have to figure out how to get to literally every chest in the world, it isn’t meditation anymore, it’s a puzzle game outside of the story, no thanks. Also traversal here is probably the worst in the series too, its wakward, plenty pof annoying deaths at the hands of climbing, The biggest disappointment overall is this games story, the worst ending in history if you can even call it an ending and the outside of the animus world features the least likably protagonist of all time, smoking doesn’t make you look like a badass, it makes you look inconsiderate of the people around you, but again, assassins creed Valhalla is a great game, the combat is fun, you can go down different paths to play the way you prefer, brute, ranged, stealth, or a mix of all 3…

I like it. In a lot of ways better than Odyssey. No more trash weapons, you can build, you can duel like in RPG (block, stun, weapon combos, shields). I like worlds events, they are so funny. No stupid quests "bring 10 bunch of something". And the world is great and beautiful. And yeah, you can raid. Vikings!

Pretty good. The second Assassin's Creed I've ever played all the way through. First one was Odyssey, which I loved. I've tried every one before but never finished one. Graphics are amazing. I liked the story here, but I didn't like the way it was structured into a bunch of small story arcs because it meant that there were very few characters that had a relationship with Eivor throughout. Most of the other main characters were basically checked out after the prologue with only very minor check ins until the story wrapped up. For that reason, the whole thing didn't feel as cohesive as Odyssey. One other thing that drove me crazy is that they didn't adopt the really cool feature from Odyssey that decoupled the way your armor looks from its stats. I also did not like the armor/weapon progression too much... I literally used the same set for nearly the entire game because I preferred those perks. It meant I never really felt prompted to try out other weapons like I did in Odyssey. Voice acting was great. The funny side quests were great though I stopped doing them around hour 50 because I just wanted to get the game over with by that point. It took me another 25 hours, which I felt was too long since I wasn't really enjoying the way the story was built any more. I'm saying a lot of negative things here, but my score really is an 8/10. Comparing this game to the wide array of games out there, it really was quite good. I'm not much a fan of indies. Gimme that AAA big budget effort. Expand

I raided all the main raids but still wasn’t able to fully boost my settlement. So you have to seek out more regular chests in the world than I did. I wish I knew to save many of my materials until later in the game- especially to boost health, upgrade weapons, and upgrade my arrow quiver. I didn’t like the present day stuff- wish they’d just abandon that altogether. But it wasn’t that much of the game. The most difficult boss for me was Goodwin. It took me quite a while to finally beat him. He was harder than Basim or Fenrir. I did not seek out the Sisters- so I can’t speak to them. Overall I ended up feeling quite happy with the game. I’m glad I spent the time with the game that I did. Granted, I loved the first AC games much more. But this is a great game by itself. I’m hoping the DLC expansions will be just as good. Overall I recommend it if this is your genre of games! I'd say it's one of the best of 2020 after Ghost of Tsushima- and waiting on Cyberpunk! Expand

Middle - Fun, but at about 50hrs in for halfway, it’s clear there is quite a large amount of side content, and it does get repetitive. End - Whilst intriguing

    End -
Whilst intriguing at first, the lore all gets spun around everywhere(inc modern day stuff), then it just ends. Either they took stuff out to put into the DLC or they had to rush the ending to release in time.

EDIT : I modify my first review because the bugs preventing you from unlocking 2 big achievements have been patched without having to restart a new game, rare enough to mention, nice effort ubisoft. I've taken a real pleasure to return to ACV for these last achievements, but the end still upset me, particularly Basim returning to the present wihtout further question from the team.. One of the best AC opus still.

1st review : Well .. very nice opus , beautiful graphics, deep characters, story, neat twists. Why isn't it a 9 ? Because of the ubisoft day one syndrom of course, bugs (main and side quests, sucesses and not the small ones). At the time it's nearly impossible to get all the successes. So, I may change the note when it'll be corrected. And also.. the end is so flat.. not mediocre but 150 hours for that, did you say scenaristic trick/ shortcut ??

After reading that,, I grew concerned because both Odyssey and Origins were grindy making combat challenging by giving miniscule XP and forcing the player to buy a XP booster. My concerns were mostly alleviated when the territories of England were all a reasonable level. For the most part, two territories would be of the same power level, allowing the player to raise his/her power level with more ease then past games. I believe Valhalla's grindiness was more in line with that of Origins. Origins does not have an XP booster. For the most part,,, as long as you complete all the side missions in Origins you will be fine level wise. Similarly in Valhalla, since there is a lot to do in the main quest you level up quickly, however the XP booster does help. Odyssey on the other hand, had a really bad grind, enemies who were a few levels higher than you would resist attacks. Odyssey requires an XP booster to be fun. The story was mediocre, I thought it was ridiculous how many of the main characters flirt with Evior. It got to the point of immersion breaking sometimes. However, like Alex from the Angry Joe Show said Valhalla is being compared to games like God of War and Ghost of tsushima. God of War did Norse mythology well and Ghost of tsushima was a better Assassins creed. Recently,, I finished Assassins Creed Valhalla and clocked around 53 hours in the game. Another gripe I have is the anticlimactic ending and the lack of end game content and side content. Mysteries,, collectibles and wealth do not really appeal to me, I wanted more story side content. I did not even find all the orders of ancients members because it was too tedious of a task to find all the evidence to uncover their identity. However, I am waiting for a new game plus mode to replay it. I give Assassin creed Valhalla a 6/10. It is a reskin of Origins and Odyssey,, however they changed the progression system for the better, the story was mediocre and the lack of endgame content and side missions cause me to deduct a few points. Most of all the superfluous loot from Odyssey is replaced, the gear and weapons you find in Valhalla are much more quality over quantity. Finally, the game looks absolutely gorgeous on Xbox Series X. From snowy mountains in Norway to stunning landscapes in England, this is most ambitious Assassin's Creed world they have ever created. It is highly satisfying completing a story arc or traversing the world and finding things that you felt that other players might not have stumbled across due to the nature of the open world and its use of way finders. The lack of load times on Xbox Series S is truly impressive given the nature of environments, landscape, and elements that are present on screen. There were a few issues from characters floating in mid-air, bizarre enemy AI, and straight up freezes, although these were far and few between given the scope of it all. Intuitive and varied combat help keep things fresh, even if it does take a fair few hours of gameplay to really get going. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a thoroughly enjoyable, open-world RPG that is an absolute must for Xbox owners.
