A fantastic game that retains everything that made it great in 2013, with a massive and stunning graphical leap that transports us to a bigger and more vibrant world. It remains, perhaps, the best Assassin's Creed, and it's still the best pirate game to date.

I went into this looking for the flaws and to compare it to the original. After all, if they didn’t improve on it then it would just be another remaster with a fresh coat of paint in order to make people buy the same game as before. But this feels different. Fresh. And boy does it show in the presentation. Ubisoft has really put in some work to make this iconic game look and feel like a new experience. And while I have stated that not every game needs a remake, this one gives me hope that maybe in the future, we might see a “Resync” of my favorite games of the series being the Ezio Trilogy. Please Ubisoft make that happen and I will play that all over again.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced successfully modernizes one of Ubisoft’s finest games without losing its identity. Stunning visual upgrades, improved lighting, and a refined combat system make this the definitive way to experience Edward Kenway’s pirate adventure.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced keeps the spotlight where it should be: Edward, the Jackdaw, and the pirate life. The missing DLC and multiplayer are worth mentioning, but the improved visuals, smoother gameplay, and stronger solo focus make this one of the best ways to replay one of Ubisoft’s finest adventures.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is an excellent remake that preserves the spirit of the original and expands upon it, blending the philosophy of the series from that era with its more modern evolution. The recreation of the environments is stunning, but the developers could have been a bit more daring in adapting the series’ most recent formula. It takes the AC series a step forward technically, but it relies on gameplay we’ve seen before and lacks real innovation.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is an exemplary remake of what was already a well regarded game. Thirteen years on, practically everything wrong with the original has been addressed, making for a superior and far more palatable experience. This is the best kind of pirate material.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced successfully revitalizes a classic without losing its original spirit. Gorgeous visual upgrades and meaningful gameplay refinements make Edward Kenway’s Caribbean adventure feel fresh again, even if dated character animations remain. Whether revisiting the game or experiencing it for the first time, this is the definitive way to enjoy one of the series’ finest adventures.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a fascinating journey filled with undeniable strengths and painful compromises. It's only fair to celebrate the enormous care taken with aspects such as global accessibility and the superb Spanish dubbing, which brings back the original actors to record the new lines of dialogue. Visually, it's a stunning work, and its world reminds us why we fell in love with the Caribbean in the first place, demonstrating that organic progression without inflated numbers will always work in the narrative's favor. However, its insistence on modernizing combat at the expense of classic spectacle, the inconsequential nature of the new Animus Hub, and, above all, a noticeable fragility, prevent this ship from reaching its full cruising speed, at least for now.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced does a fantastic job bringing one of the best pirate games to the modern age. I was initially skeptical, as I thought the original aged well and didn’t really need a remake. I was gladly proven wrong here. The graphical improvements and updated gameplay mechanics do more than enough to justify reliving this swashbuckling adventure.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced succeeds in its mission to modernize the game's presentation, yet struggles to hide the aging cracks in its core open-world formula. The pirate immersion in the heart of the Caribbean is fantastic, elevated by a cast of supporting characters—both new and returning—who remain as engaging as ever. However, a camera that often goes haywire during combat, occasionally tedious repetition in the action, and a lack of improvements to the main campaign prevent this first remake from reaching true greatness—at least for now. That said, Black Flag Resynced did succeed in making me imagine what a remake of Altaïr’s or Ezio’s adventures might look like, and I would certainly love to revisit those eras with this level of polish. This new version offers a great summer adventure for newcomers and a sweet dose of nostalgia for veterans. But if you are already burnt out on the Assassin’s Creed formula, Resynced isn't going to be the game that redeems it for you.

I regard Resynced with the exact same sentiments as Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Resynced goes beyond the scope of a traditional remaster and adjusts the content of Black Flag to make improvements to the experience (what you’d expect for a remake). But the downside to these fixes is that it highlights problems that weren’t fixed or, even worse, new problems that didn’t even exist in the original game. Resynced is a half-step toward something truly fantastic. If you play it, you will see the strengths of Black Flag. You will see why the original game was the de facto pirate video game for years. But you will also find a remake that doesn’t manage to take the crown from the very game that it’s remaking.
