    Play in couch co-op with a friend, sibling or partner as two space agents, Cye (the brawler) and Chrome (the tactician). Exterminate hordes of biomutants, mix and match turrets, powers and traps to find your favourite play styles - from close combat to long-range destruction.

    At its worst ZAMB! Redux is a ponderous twin sticker, but at its very best, it’s a tactical shooting fan’s dream – it’s just a shame it rarely reaches those latter heights.

    ZAMB! Redux isn't a spectacular game, but it offers a decent time nonetheless. The two playable characters have some interesting designs due to how different they function from one another, and there's enough challenge and extra objectives to go after to make this sometimes feel satisfying. Unfortunately, the gameplay and enemy design don't change enough between levels to equal a memorable experience, but it's still enjoyable enough while it lasts.

    Tower defence game’s are not my most favourite game’s ever so sometimes I kinda go into playing them not expecting to enjoy them that much.Tower defence game’s are not my most favourite game’s ever so sometimes I kinda go into playing them not expecting to enjoy them that much. Thankfully though ZAMB! Redux is a game I did have some enjoyment with and I think that’s mainly down to the game not just being about tower defense. It has quite a few different mechanics in play at the same time and despite it suffering with a few issues these mechanics made me forget about the game’s problems. As I said earlier I’m not a massive fan of the tower defence style but the tower defence elements actually feel different in this game so on the whole I actually enjoyed these elements. Unfortunately though the gameplay can get a little repetetive after a short while and this game is without a doubt best enjoyed when played in short bursts. I also recommend that you play with a friend as well because when play with the AI you will end up getting frustrated quite a lot. The main reason why you get frustrated is because the AI teammate they provide you with is absolutely useless and they don’t really do anything to help, which in turn means the game gets a lot more difficult. Thankfully though the technichal side of the game doesn’t cause you any problems and you will find that everything runs well here. I was especially impressed with the controls that have been implemented in the game because they remain tight and responsive throughout and aiming and killing enemies never becomes a problem. Speaking about the enemies there are a decent number of them for you to face and each enemy reacts and does things differently. This variety means when you play the game in short bursts you end up having more fun because fighting and defeating the enemies never seems to get dull, which is great. One place where I would’ve liked to have seen more variety though is in the level design. The levels all basically look the same and play out the same way and in my opinion I think the levels would have been better if they were made bigger because the small size of the levels can make things become more difficult quite quickly. One of my favourite things about the game was the presentation side of things. Don’t get me wrong the visuals and sound design aren’t going to win any awards anytime soon, but they don’t need to either because the visuals and sound design are fun and with the fun comes quite a bit of charm and that was more than enough for me. At the end of the day ZAMB! Redux isn’t the most enjoyable game I’ve ever played before but it did make me enjoy and appreciate the tower defence formula more and for that reason alone it gets a thumbs up from me.… Full Review »

    Zamb! Redux, in my opinion, tries to take the tower defense genre and try to make it where cooperation is necessary to survive. The way thatZamb! Redux, in my opinion, tries to take the tower defense genre and try to make it where cooperation is necessary to survive. The way that the game mechanics work in some situations force you to work together with your partner you fight side by side with. It feels like the game is meant to be played with another person in order for you to fully enjoy your playthrough experience. The question at hand is does this work with the game or is it its’ downfall.

    The main plot of the game is very simple and lackluster. The story is told through a short comic book style intro at the begging of the game. The main two characters are space marines Chrome and Cye and they’re tasked with stopping a mad scientist named Dr. Hundertwasser from spreading evil super mutants in the galaxy. There's nothing else to it. The trailer for the game is literally the story. The story answers the who and the what, but not the where when why how.
    Moving onto the gameplay side of things each of the characters have their own attacks and abilities. Chrome is a range/ builder character who can place turrets down uses a blaster to deal damage to enemies. Cye is a melee character who uses blades and energy blasts to defeat enemies. In my opinion, I prefer Cye over Chrom because turrets are more useful and Cye’s melee slashes don't really seem fun to use. When looking at Chrome’s turrets you're able to pick them up freely at any time you want. One good part about the game is that it allows you to switch characters on the fly and you don't have to stick with just one, only when your playing by yourself though. When playing the game solo your AI partner isn't helpful whatsoever. Most of the time he stays of in the distance while your fighting for your life and you have to switch to him and bring him over to you. At the same time, the character you switched from is still taking damage The one unique part of the game is that you can take Chrome’s turrets and Cye’s energy blasts and traps to make certain combos that do different amounts of damage to certain enemies. The enemies are pretty basic and most of the time you’ll be fighting spiders and mutant looking creatures. Overall unless your playing with your friend the game overall is very tedious and you’ll end up getting bored at the fifth level and the game has twenty-seven levels. Even when I was playing with my brother we got bored and ended up just playing a different game within fifteen to twenty minutes. Unless you want quick and easy achievements to unlock the replay value on this game is very very low. All the levels look the same but with a reskin to attempt to make it look different.

    The point of a strategic tower defense game is to make the player think about their every move like their life depended on it. Never did I ever have that feeling during my playthrough. You can literally place turrets anywhere you want to and still pass the level. The only time I was required to think was what combo does what and how to perform it. Overall the game itself is below average. My expectations were below what I thought the game was going to be and even then it wasn't that high. I do enjoy the fact that the game tried to make it a cooperative experience but if that’s the case there's no online multiplayer option. I love the combo usage but those two features don’t make up for the lackluster story, fun factor, and overall attention grabber.
