Wonder Blade on Xbox is inconsistently fun. The wildly contrasting difficulty and bumpy pacing makes the experience feel slightly disjointed, however it’s all wrapped up in a way that will no doubt bring a smile to the most miserable of faces.

Wonder Blade! So what are you waiting for? Grab that trusty weapon of yours, free the princess and save the world, all before dinner. What doWonder Blade! So what are you waiting for? Grab that trusty weapon of yours, free the princess and save the world, all before dinner. What do you get when you cross a whimsical adventure with a cast of humorous characters and combat to nearly die for? Wonder Blade of course which an awesome experience you won't soon forget. You play as a nameless, faceless hero slashing and casting your way through hordes of enemies on the way to your goal, saving the princess. You attack with X, which you will be button mashing quite a bit, cast magic with a tY, jump with cross and dodge and roll with B, B also doubles up as an instant kill attack at certain times. This can be hit and miss as your character rolls around instead of performing one of the cool execution animations. You unlock a couple of other button combination attacks as you progress. The cartoon art style presented in the game is great and the animations are fluid and enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the various ‘execution style’ animations which are over well the top, set pieces that break up the generic attack patterns. There’s also a lot of humor provided in the characters’ body language and facial expressions. Wonder Blade continues in the strides of past passages in the Streets of Rage like 2D beat them up sort without doing a lot to produce a way for itself. If you are a fan of the genre be sure to check it out on the Xbox games store it may not be perfect but deserves a look at especially if you find it on sale on the Xbox digital games store. Expand
