One of the best modern shooters, up there with Halo, Doom, and Titanfall!

The overall length of the game is pretty short. You could easily beat it in one sitting if you had 8-10 hours to kill. Overall, it’s short but sweet. Worth a playthrough for sure, but i don’t see a whole lot of reason to revisit it unless you’re hell bent on playing the alternate timeline option the game offers you, or if you’re an avid achievement/trophy hunter. While there are only a few firearms, each type (Pistol, Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Etc.) packs a considerable punch. They all feature an alternative fire mode and can be dual wielded for even more power. The levels are well-designed and recall "Bioshock", but gameplay can be tough as the difficulty can spike suddenly. "The New Order" is only a single player game, but it's a lengthy one and loaded with content. It features two endings, multiple difficulty levels and plenty of documents/recordings/codex pieces to discover. So if you've ever wanted to live out a power fantasy in which you execute endless Nazis, then play this. It's good stuff. I would rate it with an 8.2 out of 10. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before playing this game I played The New Colossus first and because of that I could notice several shortcomings of this game. First the story feels a bit incomplete. Deathshead doesn't really empathize with us much until near the end of the game and still doesn't make much of a villain. Inevitably, Engel is felt to be the true antagonist. Even without being the main villain of the first game, she has more participation than deathshead. Even so, the game is too entertaining and although it seems quite inferior to its sequel, it maintains a very good gameplay and story Expand

It's not stupid: often you need to plan your actions, so the game might frustrate you if you're in to vent your emotions after a long day. Sometimes the combat process also seems kinda repetitive but various plot settings come to rescue. The controls often get in the way but it might well be my problem as a long-time PC gamer.

The vibe of the alternative history year 1960 is quite realistic. You'll find yourself reading the wall posters and watching the details. You'll even have some creepy fun seeing a full-blown fake German record label with familiar tunes in the year 1960 gone awry (for instance, Die Käfer with their album Das Blaue U-Boot which is a reference to The Beatles' Yellow Submarine). The game is sarcastic and self-aware: there's a built-in original 2D Wolfenstein you can access some time into the game.

The plot is rather fascinating, although sometimes seems like a stretch. You're tasked to do whatever is necessary while other characters usually give you orders.

Also, the Xbox One version is remarkably stable. I only had a couple of occastions when an NPC would jump in one place or someone's rifle would get stuck in a wall. This is a rare sight nowadays.

-Higher difficulties feel at times frustrating
    -Enemy A.I. is pretty mediocre
-Gameplay encourages a stealth approach, which feels at odds with your character in terms of narrative, who acts like a light version of Doom Guy

Overall, I highly recommend Wolfenstein: The New Order for those looking for an intense FPS with a gripping narrative that doesn't take itself too serious, all the while portraying the horrors of WW2 in some subtle and some not so subtle manners.

It was my first Wolfenstein game and oh boy, it was surely worth it. Beautifully written characters, immersive cutscenes and a history as common as you would imagine - about the world-saving hero, which may sound boring but the world it takes place has something magical. Maybe it's just because the player has to kill nazis. idk.

    Great FPS game, highly recommend.

The game does have large downfalls that lesser its score, the weapons arsenal is not as plentiful or interesting as i hoped and can be annoying to switch guns mid battle, the way the enemies battle you by sticking to cover does restrict a free flowing bullet fest type of game, some enemies like the huge robots and drones are massivley over used and become a chore by the end of the game that has you mostly hiding in cover on 20 health trying not to die so you dont have to re-do it all and theres a massive problem with stealth, its so phenomenally basic and over used that these sections become tedious fast, with it all being set up and linear in ways that you can complete it, with enemies being brain dead and bind at times, the final boss battle is okay if not slightly infuriating, the collectables are awful and not worth collecting, the old school wolfenstein missions that are optional and slightly hidden are a neat touch but nothing to rave about with the guns not becoming that old classic style aswell, by the end you'll be satisfied with new order if not blown away, its still much much much better than its succesor old blood which is horrendous compared to this game, a good 7 out of 10 and definetly worth picking up on a sale and playing. This is a game where you must find health, armor, super collectibles and other hidden stuff.
Stealth (which has smooth/fluid controls) is a real theme throughout the game and as the game moves towards the finish and open conflict becomes more prevalent (as it should) one then needs to manage their stealth, cover shooting and running combat with appropriate timing.

Tons of awesome weapons and upgrades.
Great story. Superb progression. Very lengthy (easily 30+ hours for the meticulous)
Combat is fluid, intuitive and the control scheme again goes back to fps roots.
    Zero boredom, zero repetitiveness.
Good graphics. Superb voicing. No bugs.

The biggest negative issues in the game are that the radial wheel often doesnt register the appropriate weapons and jacks up your play bigtime and the game will start you off where you need to fight immediately but defaulted to an inappropriate weapon. Thus, those two dev errors are compounded and you die needlessly.

Only wish there was even more campaign and that there was another, more hardcore, insane difficulty with limited items, ammo and tougher enemies. (played Uber only)
    Now off to Colossus...

This game goes back to the roots of proper fps gameplay (no multiplayer) and destroys it!

An obvious classic for the true gamer.

First of all, there is not any kind of player decision on the aforementioned gameplay elements, there are parts in which designers allow sneaking, and parts where they simply don't, without any relevance to story and plot. As a stealth experience, it is one of the dumbest and easiest around, because in the sections where you have the divine permission to sneak, the enemies are almost set, awaiting for your takedowns, wihout offering any kind of acomplishment. As a shooting experience, everything is also too dumb, as -especially in the last levels, which are awful- , levels or checkpoints begin and you are stripped of your weapons again and again, permitted to use whatever the divine developers will allows you to, facing waves of bullet spongey enemies that two hit kill you (playing on uber difficulty, of course), in repeated stupid scenarios totally directed by the worthless devs, which insult the player's intelligence (as an example, your chopper's pilot, decides to place you on a sabotazed ruined bridge, of all places, amidst a combat zone full of enemies that begin shooting you and the chopper on sight, killing you instantly, wtf???), and these scenarios are the norm for the last 5-6 game missions.
I approached this title as a game in which player choise matters, gameplay wise, and it is definitely not the case, it is another generic, heavily-scripted shooter, that disguises itself as a game that allows player freedom, by devs that clearly are not capable of creating this kind of experience, so, for anyone looking for a bit more sophisticated shooter, with more complex gameplay than -shoot all the stupid enemies that we place before you, and move on, till the next mindless encounter we prepared for you- , this title is simply insulting and unworthy for either a Call of Duty or Deus Ex fan.

    - Graphically it has to be said that the game has not aged particularly well. Even allowing for the fact that it is 3 years old at this point there are some decidedly awful examples mixed in with a few good examples. You can look at desks in the levels for example and see that the pens/paper/clutter on it is literally drawn onto the desk. I'm not asking for a pen to be 3d rendered or anything but it does look quite terrible when it catches your eye. Whilst the levels are enjoyable to transverse and do battle they do get remarkably samey as you progress through them. You essentially are set a theme for the level at the beginning and rarely does it deviate from what you see in the first 2 minutes of the level.
    - I'm a fan of video games not holding your hand in their gameplay. I like to figure stuff out for myself and think too many games nowadays coddle their player and treat them like idiots. Having said that there was more than once in The New Order where I had absolutely no idea what to do next or where to go. The final boss is particularly annoying as there is a very specific thing you must do to even hurt him and this isn't really made abundantly clear. Also you have no way of knowing if you are actually hurting him (or any other boss for that matter) so it becomes infuriating to learn the last 5 minutes you've spent shooting at them has done nothing. A little more guidance would have helped even if I appreciate they were trying to be hands off.
-It's autosave feature was far too spaced out at times, particularly around the Boss battles. More than once I was in disbelief at how much progress I could lose by dying. In most modern games you come to expect that autosaves are fairly regular but there was more than once I lost 5 to 10 minutes of progress by dying.
    - The weapon wheel is too sensitive for selecting weapons on the fly. I ran out of ammo with a gun and it often meant selecting the weapon next to to one I wanted as I tried to select weapons whilst moving. A hot switch between two weapons is available but its kind of pointless when you constantly select the weapon to the left or right of the one you want and then you have to relearn selection process all over again. Why they didn't just have LB cycle through the weapons I'll never know.
    - There is no real way of knowing if an enemy is seeing you or is about to see you and in a game where stealth is a viable option of combat this is more than a little annoying. Whats more the AI can be dumb as posts. I've turned a corner in crouched mode before now to find myself slap bang in front of a guard who continues to stand there calmly as I line up a headshot and kill him. Guards don't seem to care much when they're comrades are capped either, provided you did it silently.
    - Toward the final third they just mob you with strong, armored enemies rather than placing them strategically and it makes the final third a bit of a slog.

    GOOD
    - It's remarkably cheap. I can't remember the last sale on PS or Xbox where they weren't throwing this game and it's prequel away for nothing. I got 18 hours on my first playthrough of this game and it cost me £3.74. I've had beers more expensive than that and they lasted a lot less time. In terms of value for money not only did I get a lot of bang for my buck but I often found myself thoroughly enjoying the whole process...
    - It's very fun. It eschews multiplayer entirely to focus on the single player experience and whilst it isn't without its warts it is on the whole a very, very fun time. Guns feel meaty and different to one another, combat is tight and engaging despite the AI not being the best. Levels tend to flow nicely from one set piece to another at good pace that keeps you into the game.
    - It doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a game based in alternate history so they are aware they have licence to get a little wacky. Robot Dogs, Jimi Hendrix esque allies, another ally with a dent in his head that can only say his name in different tones, another that is wheelchair bound but still goes on missions. It's all a little off kilter and the game knows it, it plays to it and that's to be applauded. Rather than forcing a serious face onto things and it does try to get a little poetic sometimes, by and large its a game that knows it isn't based too much in reality.
-The Plot. It's pretty good. It kept me entertained and I did actually care about most of the characters. The love interest seemed tacked on and the sex scenes were abrupt and kinda unneeded but on the whole it was refreshing to see a decent single player story in an FPS. Forewarning however; the ending is far from brilliant or good closure.

Overall for the price, it's more than worth picking up. For the frequently available sale price you'd be getting a rock solid FPS that'll hold your attention for the whole of its very decent storyline. In terms of bang for buck this is about as satisfied as I've been with a game for a long time.

    A Rollercoaster of Emotions
Wolfenstein the New Order is a 9 and a half hour long first person shooter set in an alternate reality where the Nazis won in world war 2
Without spoiling the story, you play as us special forces operative captain blazkowicz, who’s been out of it for 14 years to learn its 1960 and the us lost
And you set out to rescue your squad and of course take down some Nazis…
The New Order is probably one of the most intriguing first person shooters I’ve played through…
not only thanks to the story of living through alternate history.. But because of how your characters story is told, there’s revenge, love, everything… your journey feels personal instead of generic...
You’re not some forgettable throwaway soldier like you get in most every other first person shooter campaign
And because of this this campaign immerses you deep inside of its world…
This isn’t your typical run and gun campaign..
There’s tons of variety here, missions will have you scaling buildings for targets... going in with stealth, infiltration, and undercover missions…
You never know what the game is going to throw at you keeping the campaign feeling fresh…
There are a variety of weapons and enemies to deal with, and the game mixes things up with a laser gun you get to cut through chain and metal in the game, giving you alternate routes inside of rooms and again stopping this game from just feeling constantly run and gun… you’re not forced to shoot here most of the time, as you can just go in missions with stealth taking out everyone from behind…
but if you do choose to shoot there are plenty of weapon choices and the ability to dual wield guns..
Enemies drop plenty of ammo... but eventually your laser gun is upgraded and able to shoot with unlimited ammo, though it has to be recharged so you’re not waiting for it to recharge on its own at a painfully slow rate after every couple of shots…
Combat can feel challenging if you’re not the stealthy type... especially thanks to the scouts that will call for back up if you don’t take them out before you start shooting...
You do have health that will regenerate slightly... but there are health packs and armor around which seem in abundance at the beginning... but towards the end you’ll be begging for them...
Mission structure all for the most part feels the same.. You’re given a map which rarely helps... I found myself just stumbling around the map until I found the item I was supposed to interact with...
Not the greatest natural progression... but I only felt lost a few times throughout my journey to the end..
I was having a lot of fun with this game thanks to its story and level design... however for me the 2nd half of this game really starts to feel a bit generic and I was ready for this game to be over hours before the final showdown…
While I do feel the final stretch of the new order is a drag, load times are painfully slow, and the occasional lock picking in this game is the worst and most annoying lock picking in video game history
The New Order offers a really unique experience worth picking up and seeing out through to its end

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game surprised me. It was good and bad in ways I didn't expect.
Let's start with the good: the mood is really good, with very colourful parts presenting the nazi victory and oppression. The actor plays really well the tragic almost sociopath protagonist.
The bad: the combat is a mix of way too many things not marrying well together. Some basic and relatively easy stealth scenes are hampered by the fact that it's very difficult to peek from cover. Then you have scenes with waves of enemies (you died in the middle? start again) which sometimes encourage cover shooting and sometimes run and gun. With not enough space and speed to run and a very awkward 1st person cover perspective, the difficult battles frequently boil down to finding the right spot in which to stay to exploit the opponents' bad AI as they'll be coming at you 1-2 at a time.
And that's without counting the regenerating health which marries the worst of both worlds, by regenerating up to the next 20 points. In practice, this means you can be stuck in a checkpoint before a big battle with only 20 health, and you're encouraged to peek from cover, fire 2 shots, take 10 damage and go back to cover. Adding insult to injury, you have a couple of unnecessary subsystems (armor and armor upgrades) and a HORRIBLE scene in which you're stuck in a huge machine and you're fired upon from all sides (it's either too easy and silly in low difficulty or bordering to frustratingly impossible in harder difficulties, as the only thing you can do is 5 slow steps to the left, 5 slow steps to the right, as you're firing upon the waves of enemies).
Combat's redeeming point is the perk system, which encourages you to do interesting things (ex: ricochet shots) in order to unlock abilities.
In general the combat reminded me of Tomb Raider's revival in the way it mixes stealth and cover shooter scenes, but the game in general has nothing close to Tomb Raider's exploration parts (silly golden nazi paraphernalia collectibles thrown in crazy places don't count as decent exploration).
Verdict: nowadays you can find the game at

Wolfenstein has been reborn. The reincarnation took Studio MachineGames, which is made up of people from Starbreeze studios, who did a great action scene in which a character has always been disclosed, the player could feel him, and always had a good story. Wolfenstein: The New Order, they have not changed yourself! They made an idol William Blaskowitz character! And it's not just the character, and personality, which even empathize. He as well voiced; the actor dubbing almost always speaks in a whisper, what makes the character closer to the player. Besides the main character we'll be a resistance headquarters, which is filled with characters. At first they seem to be just furniture to fill the space, but eventually all the characters will be revealed and you to bind him. The headquarters of the resistance will be your home to which you'll return after the task. You'll chat with your companions, it is better to know and get around the headquarters, which from time to time will change. If you sleep on the bed, even you can play a level from the original Wolfenstein is a great game (which in the game is not enough). Also I can not mention great music! The music in the game is simply gorgeous and gives the picture and gameplay richness.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is not a game in the open world, but the developers create the feeling that you are not just at the locations of the next mission, and at a certain part of the world. World, which was seized by the Nazis. Writers have written an alternative history and was even recorded alternate covers of famous bands! Notes interesting to read, and don't pass it by! They are immersed in the alternate world, and you realize that this is a deep game, it's a real thought out story with his world.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is a shooter. Without a great shuternoy mechanics to play wouldn't be interesting even with a good plot. Developers here do not disappoint! Shoot fun! Run around and shoot Nazis with two hands! Buzz! Health itself is not restored, so you have to look for kits (you can even gain health above 100%, but it will very quickly drop to 100). Besides health, we also do replenish armor - just like in the good old days. The game also has stealth and a high level of complexity will have to resort to it often. But in this game it's best to set a medium level of complexity and fun to shoot Nazis.

I strongly recommend Wolfenstein: The New Order! Few people makes the shooter a real adventure with a memorable story and characters.

A brilliant old school shooter that resembles a fair amount to the classic Wolfenstein games. Wolfenstein: The New Order has not only got brilliant combat aspects but it has a very solid story that is easy to follow. Best of all is that you get to shoot freakin Nazis. One of most enjoyable yet underrated games of 2014.

The real penalty in this game isn't having to go back to a checkpoint, it's having to wait two minutes for the loading afterward.

Maybe later on, the game's controls suddenly seem fluid, but you shouldn't have to suffer through a couple of hours of what, by numerous accounts is a ten hour game, just to find something that's actually entertaining.

This is a great shooter, much better than COD that's for sure. The game-play design does not babysitter like COD does so you have to find your way around and come up with solutions. The idea of Nazi Germany winning war and occupying entire world is awesome, however the plot falls flat. Nevertheless, I have had loads of fun playing it. Recommended :-)

There's no multiplayer, but enough difficulty, collectibles, and some choices(or maybe just one..) that means I'll definitely be replaying it at least one more time. And the game allows for many different playstyles a lot of the time, granting perks that reward how you decide to kill the enemy-a mechanic I found to be very enjoyable.

The only reason I don't give it a 10 is lack of multiplayer, however, that may in fact be a strength to the game because it allowed the developers to focus solely on the single player experience which is both substantial(at least 20 hours, maybe more if you like to find every secret like me), fun, and surprisingly emotional. Also, killing Nazis never gets old.

When I found out Bethesda were making Wolfenstein my eyebrows raised, how would this RPG legend interpret a game which many call the grandfather of FPS? The answer, a balance of the good of RPG mixed with the best of FPS, and a few quirks thrown in.

On the surface you run around a linear map shooting sways of Nazi’s and occasionally running from mechanical evil but there is more to Wolfenstein than just a keen eye for a headshot.
It’s an FPS, clear and true but the RPG world comes into play with the deeper story, a developing desire to collect items, perks to unlock, a choice which makes you want to play through the game again, enemies coming from behind and guns which get in the way but ultimately do their job. The only negative is the slight screen obstruction you get with the guns and at times you feel like you’re shooting a gun flash rather than the computer, every other RPG component is complimentary especially the storyline which if followed is deep and not as crazy as you might think; as a world we’ve seen and done some horrific things.

I can’t say I love this mishmash of RPG and FPS but I also have no complaints and so what can I moan about? I want a story line, I like collecting items in game (and not too many), I have a penchant for good weapons and seeing the enemy dropped and the gameplay is varied, Wolfenstein offers all of that plus a little bit of nostalgia. This could have been a run of the mill game or a huge AAA rated showpiece but instead it’s turned into a technical exercise for a developer and a bloody good game for the consumer. It might be a tad American hero but actually It’s well worth your money and well worth a play through, be warned though it isn't the hardest so ramping up the difficulty won’t harm you trigger happy souls.

A generally solid first-person shooter. It almost feels like what Dishonered would be if it were a shooter. Unlike most games in the genre, Wolfenstein places a great deal of emphasis on the story, context and characters. The setting is fantastic, if not a little deluded. The setting is fantastic, if not a little deluded. It shows that the world would be far more technically advanced in 1960 had the Nazis won the war. Of course, this is all done to allow for the more interesting weapons and enemies and levels. The game starts out at a convenient point to build the setting, and then continues to explore the world under the new regime. As with Dishonered, there are plenty of collectibles and little newspaper headlines and documents to read - all there to make the game world feel authentic. Bethesda do a great job of bringing their fictional worlds to life, and encourage the player to explore every inch of the levels even though the game is a corridor shooter. You will spend a lot of time pressing the X button - as this does everything - it reloads, it's the action button, it picks stuff up. There feels like a LOT of looting in this game for ammo, health and armour - all of which are in abundant supply. So much infact, that even on Uber difficulty you will rarely, if ever, be struggling to survive. That's not to say that it's a boring game however. Sure, there are a lot of "filler" missions where you don't actually do any shooting, but these exist to develop the story. When it comes to gameplay, The New Order has it nailed. The gunplay has a lot of weight and feels satisfying. When you shoot enemies you can really feel the damage. It doesn't rely too much on gimmicks and gadgets - just pure gunplay. The ability to dual-wield weapons and with each weapon having two "modes", combat can be creative at times. The mechanics are amongst the best of any modern shooter. The most commendable feature is the ability to fully lean by holding LB and using the left stick to change your character's stance up, down, left, right etc. It makes you wonder how other shooters manage without it at time, and makes the whole moving in and out of cover by movement feel outdated. Add in the sprinting, sliding and auto-lean when behind cover, the ability to throw knives (which is intuitively mapped to the melee button) and grenades, then you've got a decent set of actions. The controls are well laid out but there aren't many options for changing them other than sensitivity and inversion. There's also some stealth in this game - which is often encouraged because taking out the commanders before they can call for backup makes it easier to progress. Although this game oozes with Steampunk theme, it seems a little conservative when it comes to the enemies at times. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there's basically three types - soldiers, "mechs/robots" and dogs. It's not a full-blown sci-fi and tries to blur the lines between fantasy and alternate reality, so don't expect anything too crazy. In terms of level design and gameplay variety, there really isn't much to commend. Sure, there's a level on the moon and a huge robot to take down in London but the overall package lacks "magnificence" in its presentation. One thing which I must commend is that it's 1080p 60 FPS - as a shooter should be! It runs on id Tech 5 which, if we're being pedantic, is two generations ahead of CoD (which is based on id Tech 3 - a 20th century game engine!) but don't be fooled - this is the same engine that was used to power Rage and consequently doesn't look much better than that. It's definitely not what you'd call "next-gen" graphically, but it runs very well and loading times are reasonable. In conclusion, Wolfenstein The New Order is good, proper first-person shooter with some of the best mechanics and controls in the business. The action is gripping and intense, but sadly there's not enough of it. Still, it's good to see a shooter that's not afraid of giving some weight to story. The lack of multiplayer is disappointing because it has good potential with all its awesome mechanics and satisfying weapons but the single-player campaign is good enough to warrant a purchase. The gameplay itself is pretty good when played on a higher difficulty (more ammo management and strategy involved)..haven't played it on easy but I could see how the game could go by fast on anything short of medium difficulty. So far, this game is the best single-player experience on next gen, and I haven't seen anything that can dethrone this at the moment.

Plus, the atmosphere renders the player genuinely tense in many sections and the enemies feel threatening but not insurmountable.

My only complaints come from the fact that the games offers nothing innovative, it rather just perfects the feeling of a classic fps. Also, the loading screen times are serviceable when just playing normally but can become painstakingly long when you find yourself repeating sections.

This is not your run of the mill FPS like Call of Duty or Halo, no no, this is fast paced balls out shooting! You won't have regenerative health nor will you just breeze through it. This game gives a genuine challenge that most FPS games lack now days. The shooting is solid and the dual wielding of any weapon gives a great sense of fun and excitement. You can truly feel that machine games put a great deal of effort into the making of this game. From the creation of long time hero BJ, who is a haunted man after all these years of nazi killing, to the old skool feel of what FPS used to be. And guess what no tacked on multiplayer, which gives the single player more as all of Machine Games attention to story etc.
it's about time we had something well looked after and not rushed through just to cash in on its name!

    Pros:
    Old skool FPS action
    Dual wielding
Gloriously dark & gory in places
    Great villains
    Great story
    Lengthy campaign

    Cons:
Some levels are a bit bland
Early game decision doesn't affect the flow of the story as others on metacritic would have you believe
    Lacking in variety of guns
Über difficulty is not that hard

Overall i give the game an 8. Here's hoping Wolfenstein gets future franchise instalments with quality like this!

Wolfenstein perfectly combines what works with Dishonored and the classic Medal of Honor. The games story is a tale about Captain Blazkowicz's fight against the Nazi Army. I gave replay a 5 out of 10 because there is not a committed multiplayer. Unless you are someone who plays the game on higher difficulties, there is no reason to play the game after you initially beat it. $30 is a good price point for a game that will give you 8 to 15 hours of gameplay. With $60 I expect a great story with an equally gripping multiplayer. Expand

A fantastic action game which gives options on how you take on missions. Graphics are appealing throughout the whole game with a good use of affects and the story is enough to positively supplement the game. A game of choice for completionists, however not a good choice for those who favor replayability.

Plus, how can you forget the countless number of Nazis killed in those games along with Mecha-Hitler? The franchise is classic, and it has made a return to be cross-gen. Does it perform the transfer well? In short, yes. The game is just how you remember Wolfenstein. You pick up gear and ammo by pressing X, shoot and decapitate Nazis, blow stuff up, you know what you're getting with this series. The amazing thing? Wolfenstein The New Order is still one of the most refreshing shooters I've played in a long time, and I hope very much that the franchise will continue grandly. Let's talk about the graphics. In my eyes, it seems like so many gamers these days are obsessed on whether or not the game looks good or not. Those people won't complain about the game, but they won't be continuously raving about it. I found the game to please my eyes very much, and in the later missions the far views can be simply stunning. I loved how the guns were detailed, too. Speaking of guns, the arsenal here is creative and awesome. I wasn't a big fan of the guns you use at the start of the game, but once the game forwards many years on, I thought the arsenal got a lot more cool. I don't know why, but the shooting in this game feels so much more fun than other FPSs. Plus, the gore compliments the violence, and it is another incredibly detailed thing in the game. However, I felt the developers could have spiced up the gameplay a bit more with next-gen mechanics. I appreciated how they added optional stuff to the game too, but I honestly didn't care about it. I found there to be a flaw in the combat, and that was that the game doesn't give you good opportunities to feel safe. It feels like you are always out in the open and could die at any moment. There's something about The New Order that will pleasantly surprise you. The game has a very, very good story. While the plot is nothing special (all it is is basically kill the Nazis), the characters, dialogue, and other things are what you're really gonna care about. I surely did. The main character (one you play as), B.J. Blazkowics, feels like a human being, and that goes for every other character. The plot does slow down later on, though. Wolfenstein The New Order, at its core, is nothing groundbreaking. However, the stuff that is there I loved for the most part. Expand

First of all, The shooting and movement in this game feels just right. Running, sliding, leaning, all feel very natural. The close combat system is amazing for a game of this nature, you have stealth kills, counter attacks, grapples, all with enough variety to keep you interested the entire game. Finally, the shooting feels utterly amazing. The power of the assault rifle and automatic shotgun, watching limbs and peoples torsos being blown to bits, is just fantastic.

What I love about this game is the stealth, mixed with action, mixed with small puzzles, and even a safe house in the middle of the German territory. That's all I will say about that since I don't want to give anything away. The game feels like you are living through this mans life, not just mindlessly running around like an idiot.

The replay value of this game is also great. It is one of the few single player games I am actually replaying. There is one story line but a decision you make in the beginning of the game decides how you make it to the end. I own Battlefield 4 and Titanfall so far for the Xbox One and I must say, every time I put either of those games in my console all I feel is regret that I'm not playing Wolfenstein. I immediately hit eject and smile as I step into Blaskevics (I think that's how you spell his name) shoes to kill some Nazi's : ). No other game right now has the feel, story, and pure enjoyment as Wolfenstein currently for the Xbox One.

One of the best FPS in a long time, extremely easy run and gun on the easiest difficulty but put up to the hardest and you have a challenge. From stealth to just point and shoot this game is fun in all ways. It contains a lot of aspects of a 90s shooter with a lot of the good stuff from a modern game.

The guns are cool looking and satisfying to shoot - and to those of you who **** about the dual wield option - shut up. There isn't much that is more satisfying than dual wielding two automatic shotguns to mow down a heavy, or dual wielding two assault rifles with one on full auto and one firing its' missile launcher. The story is plenty entertaining - and although somewhat far-fetched at times (it's a videogame...) - keeps you engrossed and feeling invested in the outcome of the story. The non-Nazi characters/allies are solid and I think overall the voice acting in the whole game is pretty spot-on. I've played through on the second hardest skill level (ultra-violence? Or was that doom...?) and it's been challenging but not impossible to the seasoned 1st person shooter - I imagine the "nightmare" difficulty would be extremely hard for those who want a real challenge. I'm not really sure what else to say about this game except I've had a ton of fun playing it, and as someone who has been playing FPS rather religiously since the original Wolfenstein more than 20 years ago, I consider myself an excellent judge of these games.
9/10 as a FPS - Just in general overall maybe lower like an 8-8.5 (I don't want to risk comparing it to epics like fallout or Skyrim, it's good, but not THAT good). If your looking for your first FPS on the Xbox One, this shouldn't disappoint you.

While this is not the old time corridor shooter that we old time gamers fell in love with (but what else was there?) it certainly has the flavor of Wolfenstein. Great visuals, wonderful voice acting, decent albeit cliched story, and a simply fun game. It will provide hours of play, particularly if you are a completionist, or if you want to rip through it, you can but that would be a shame in my opinion. The introduction of stealth is welcome (at least for me since its my preferred style) but has upset some as it is a departure from the ridiculous power fantasy of the original series. The game also has a darker tone in its story and is a more serious affair compared to the goofiness of the 8 bit classic. All in all a good game, but not one that will set any kind of new standard other than its use of graphic fidelity of the next graphic power of the XBO.

TL;DNR: 8 - A decent FPS experience with a dark atmosphere, well voice acted, tremendous soundtrack, standard gameplay systems.

Technology/engine: 7 - id Tech 5 is a solid engine but occasionally shows its age. The draw distance is acceptable and the engine is responsive to player input although when things are intense it can demonstrate a small lag response that is initially irritating but is quickly overcome by altering timing to anticipate movement to be in sync.

AI: The AI is not the brightest, but is generally responsive and provides movement and life to the game.

Graphics: 8 - The graphics are well done but show a bit of age in the engine particular around some textures. If this game had been developed on a next gen platform it would have been stunning.

Sound: 9 - The sound in this game is superb. You get great distance to source sound recognition and it really adds to the game play, be it stealth or guns-a-blazing.

Soundtrack: 10 - The soundtrack is the strongest part of this game and Machine Games knows it! The atmosphere and Nazi adaptation of classic songs is simply fantastic.

Voice acting: 9 - Very strong voice acting, well paced narrative and decent dialogue, despite being a bit cliched.

    Crafting: N/A

    Customization: N/A

Game play systems: 8 - Both guns-a-blazing and stealth are well executed although the AI is not the best. The ability to have a wide arsenal immediately at your fingertips is a welcome reintroduction and truly keeps that Wolfenstein flavor intact. Stealth is decently executed and the acquisition of skills by use is a nice touch - reinforcing how you prefer to play, making that play style more viable. Some players, particularly RPG centric players may be unhappy with this as there is no control over what skills you acquire other than by use.

Controls: 8 - Responsive and well executed for the XBO although the occasional lag response can be irritating but is easily adapted to.

Story: 8 - Well written although a bit cliched, but a fun piece of alternate history fiction.

    Multi-player: N/A

What keeps this linear FPS interesting are the various perk challenges you can work towards as you wake your way through the campaign. The New Order is definitely a step up from 2009′s Wolfenstein title, and is one of my most favorite games yet released this year, boding well not only for the franchise’s future but that of games on this console and other next generation/current generation platforms. Also, now I’m looking forward to what comes next from the talent pool over at Machine Games…

Concept: The Nazis take the world by force, as if they’d have done it any other way. So naturally BJ and co take them down with the help of some very big guns, guts, and a nuke…or three.

Graphics: Everything looks gorgeous, from enemy designs to the way the sun glints off of any metallic surface. It’s only done right one way, and that’s apparently on the Xbox One in this case. Move aside other shooters, this one looks almost as good as graphical beasts like Shadowfall on the PS4 even.

Sound: Easily the weakest part of the game, the soundtrack isn’t what it used to be and doesn’t have any of the electric synth tracks that made the original game so classy and enjoyable, opting instead for metal inspired guitar riffs clanging alongside your sowing of chaos and destruction. Not that you’ll be paying much attention to the music anyway.

Playability: As idiotic as the AI can be and easy to dispatch, the gunplay and most mechanics are fairly solid, enjoyable, and contribute greatly to the experience as a whole. It truly is a gun game in every aspect, and that’s alright.

Entertainment: It has its incredibly unique moments, its tried and proven to work moments, and a few where you just don’t know exactly what the hell is going on. Namely, it’s a Wolfenstein game through and through.

    Replay Value: Moderately High.

    Overall Score: 8.5

Mit dem neusten Teil bringt man ein überdurchschnittliches Spiel auf den Markt. Auch wenn viele über die schwache Grafik schimpfen muß da hinüber wegsehen werden und es als gesamtes Werk angesehen werden.

It did tend to have its "slow moments" but those were easily overshadowed by its intense shooting/dodging periods. Story was OK not great. Action was amazing. Boss battles were Huge and EPIC ... The kind of situations it presented made you think... Lots of deaths... ... Negative side it was not that visually impressive and sound was poor at times. . This is probably the best Xbox one game out right now. That's not saying much but take it for what it's worthOverall I would really rate this 8.0. Worth the rent that's for sure. Expand

Searching for pick ups is a massive part of this game and as much as i like it i also find it kind of off putting as it takes away the fluidity of the game as you spend 10 mins scavenging the area you just cleared out to find ammo for the next room. I also found this game does not like helping you at all with no "compass like" HUD at the bottom of the screen or a mini map in the corner. I know there is an option to open up a map but as i said before i just think it takes the fluidity away from it. Overall i enjoyed the story and although it may not seem different in style to other FPS' it genuinely felt different but after completing it today i will be trading it in to contribute to my purchase of Watchdogs tomorrow :) Expand

Dual wielding guns is a blast and the auto shotguns rock but some of the weapon like the lasergun aren't fun and the assault rifle's iron sights are terrible. The graphics are good. If you get the game, get it on a next gen console or gaming pc. The story is hit and miss, mostly because of the tone. At times it's super serious, which is fine, but then at other times it tries to be just dumb fun, which is also fine, but the two don't mix very well. Bethesda claimed the game had a 20 hour campaign but I beat in 10. That's a quite an exaggeration. It's not a terrible game but it's not a great one either. It settles somewhere near average to me, but I play every FPS that comes out so maybe that's why it just can't really stand out... Expand

It's not ground-breaking in any way, but the gameplay is fun. The Nazi machines are creative and interesting enemies to fight. The alternate history element is interesting and the atmosphere is good.

Wolfenstein has always been a fan favorite since the original, but the game has always fallen short of the hype. This game is no different. Considering most Bethesda created games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls are great but this game tries to be that and falls short of being anything but mediocre.

Luckily I didn't pay for this game so I am not bitter about paying for it. I would be if I had. The game is fairly pedestrian and maintains the feel of a corridor shooter with no different courses to follow or search. This is an on-rails shooter plain and simple. There is one way to go and that way is always forward.

The graphics are still last-gen but hold up well and the story is fairly fun. The fact there are two different storylines to follow based on a decision made during the intro it adds to the replayability. However that is the only saving grace for this game. Machinegames demonstrates the how a developer can be given the chance to make the next great game and then crap out a turd because they were too lazy to do it right.

Let's go through the cons first since they are numerous and the main reason that game is crap.

    1. AI is dreaful. If you ever wanted to play a game with AI similar to Call of Duty this is it. The AI might even be worse. The game tries to pride itself on allowing the player to choose between playstyle, Guns-a-blazin or Metal Gear Stealth action. Only it forces you into one of the other during most of the game with AI that can see through walls and knows where you are hiding at all times. While you are in stealth mode, feel free to kill guys without regard to other AI because they can't see a dead co-worker if they were stabbed in front of you. I would kill a soldier and a dog only to wait around a corner and watch another enemy walk right by them like they are on a siesta. The AI in the game makes you wonder if they just thought it would be okay to make a piss poor version of it.

    2. Controls - They added in unnecessary controls that will cause you to die over and over again. Things like the slide while sprinting is terribly implemented and the controls make you want to throw the controller. It's just unintuitive. It's like letting a left handed person make the control choices and then veer off the standard FPS controls that every other game uses. Wanna crouch? Press B.

    3. Single weapon or duel weapons... hey you can do any weapon duel wield. Yeah it sounds cool but it's terrible. You don't get any more ammo and you don't get to aim.

    4. Guns feel plastic. Everything can be forgiven if the guns feel right but these guns feel like plastic with their dramamtic recoil and horrible movement.

    5. Pressing X to pick up ammo... pressing X to reload... pressing X to pick up ammo while you reload constantly. You also continue to reload your gun and check your magazine while you are idle...

    6. Hints - the bread crumbs of what you are suppose to do are barely noticeable. Enjoy figuring things out on your own.

    7. Bioshock... someone played Bioshock and thought it would be good to make a game similar in style except without powers.

    8. Max

    9. Intro is 15 years too long.

Pros - there are at least a few

    1. Two different timelines.

    2. Good graphics.

    3. Killing Nazi's and giant robot Nazi's.

    4. Story is decent.

I can’t see how those people were even playing the same game I am.
Wolfenstein: The New Order features challenging gameplay (if you have it set on “I am Death Incarnate” or better), good graphics, fantastic combat and a character-driven story that, frankly, is the best I’ve seen since The Last of Us. BJ makes for a great tragic hero.

It’s obvious they put some actual thought into how some of the Nazi uberkit works and the reasons behind it. The sequence where the armored car smashes through the gate at the asylum and then launches the drones from its rear hull is a fantastic little touch.

The fact that the developers give a legitimate reason to play through the game twice was a major selling point for me. I do wish they had tried to come up with a multiplayer component. The Last of Us, to me, was proof that you can have the best of both worlds. But I understand the thought that FPS multiplayer has been done to death, and there would have been a considerable challenge in finding a way to introduce anything that hasn’t been seen a million times before.

So in short, grab the game. Ignore the self-important jacka—es you see on Twitch who might try to knock it (one guy I watched was occupying half the screen with a feed of himself sitting on a chair…how self-important can you get?). Disregard the sites that don’t give this title its due. And enjoy yourself. This is not a rental to tide yourself over until the Xbox expands its library. This is a definite purchase for which you’ll thank yourself.

While some archaic design choices and patience-testing difficulty spikes will attempt to compromise your enjoyment on occasion, the moments to follow generally smooth over any past transgressions.

Fans of Wolfenstein of old will appreciate how it has grown and matured, and newcomers will enjoy playing in this horrific alternate history. Not to mention, every day is a great day to shoot Nazis.

Ultimately you have to scrape to find a substantive problem with Wolfenstein: The New Order. If you mandate profound innovation in the games you play, it’s possible that New Order may be too traditional for your tastes. Regardless, it’s a well-made, extremely create, and fun ass game. If you want to sit down and just have fun, you can’t ask for more than that.
