What I found is all the major components that make The New Order a great shooter with a much shallower storyline (which tries to address many topics and aspects, including the main character backstory, but falls short and ends up not covering any of them successfully), a poorer level design and a lack of thrilling moments. It lacks what makes a sequel great: innovation. It doesn't add anything other than what we've already seen in its predecessor.

It's not a bad game, not at all, but it is significantly inferior to the first one. The overall feeling I was left with when finishing this game was that one of a missed opportunity.

Should you buy it? Maybe if you catch it on sale. Should you pay it full price? Probably not. Only if you've played the first one and are a follower of the series.

The game is not awful, I just felt like all the cut scenes were really drawn out and the ending just seemed a little weak Graphics are good Audio is good, game play is fine. Most of my disappointment is with the story itself.

To address some of the complaints - despite some reports, it is not terribly short. I put at least 12 hours into the main storyline, and *maybe* an hour of that consisted of cutscenes, and each one is a couple of minutes or less. We're not talking MGS4/JRPG length here.

Can you finish it in ~5 hours? If you play at the lowest difficulty level, race through the game, skip all cutscenes, and don't take any time to explore your home base. But most people don't play like that.

Yes, it leans into the racism theme pretty hard, though it's not entirely one sided. One main character is so over-the-top racist, it comes across as parody. I was waiting for him to start twirling his mustache at any minute. Though I'm pretty sure parody was not Machinegames' intent. There's a whole lot of "f*** whitey" sentiments expressed, but again, that seems like an intentional homage to the blaxploitation films of the early 70s. However, one of the main characters gets called on that attitude, effectively being told that bigotry is bigotry, no matter what direction its coming from.

So, there's a lot of tonally inconsistent moments in the game. Is it a drama? Is it a comedy? Is it a parody? Is it ridiculously over-the-top? At times, yes to all - but they don't do a particularly good job of reconciling these discrepancies into a cohesive whole.

Gameplay-wise, the first half of the game is very frustrating. For a series that is practically the definition of "power fantasy," during the first half of the game Blaskowitz is seriously nerfed. It makes getting through the levels a tedious slog, even at lower difficulty levels.

Now, you may be thinking "what's wrong with subverting expectations?" Well, nothing - if it's done well. It's just not done well in this instance. However, once you are back to full strength (following an incredibly over-the-top-ridiculous series of events) the game is far more fun. It's just a shame it takes several hours to get to that point.

There is also a poorly developed stealth mechanic that rears its head regularly throughout the game which slows your progress significantly. And you get knocked on your back far too often, at which point you can either shoot from the ground or get back to your feet. But again, not a particularly fun mechanic.

Once you're finished with the main plotline, there's several more hours worth of side missions to tackle, which are fun in their own right.

I paid $30 for it, and felt I got my money's worth. Overall, its a fun ride, as long as you can get past the various inconsistencies in the plot and gameplay. Just turn your brain off and remember that the game does get better as it goes along.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved this game to death. The new systems like upgrades and free dual wielding make it a blast to shoot and melt Nazis that are oppressing America. The new guns like the dieselkraftwerk and Maschinenpistole the reworked old guns like the schockhammer that now has 3 barrels and the kampfpistole with a magazine to the new heavy weapons that are crazy fun. The story how ever leaves something to wish for. The New Order was a fun and less serious at times with very spooky and nervous moments like Death's Head and choosing to save one of the game's main characters was a heart sinking moment to see the other dissected and saved by this spooky general who later is shown to save hundreds of people's brains in tubes which was shocking. The influence of Caroline and other great characters made the story memorable . It also had some fun moments and goofy humor and fantastic set pieces through out the game from the musty castle and the chaos of the trenches and huge Nazi cities with buildings and the brutal setting of the prison to the wonder of being on the moon and seeing the earth. Not saying that the New Colossus does not have a bunch of great settings like a really retro style city street with a parade and the dusty waste land of Venus mixed with the future like space interior. It just seems like locations are over too quick for me. The New York waste land for example was really interesting to me since I enjoy Fallout and this was quite similar. I don't really think there was time to really soak in the art and creative effort put into it while other locations like a completely destroyed and war torn New Orleans was fantastic since there were so many different things to see. It also sees very few serious and impact full moments that the New Order had. Now the only choice that is made is in a flash back which determines which gun you will get which seems kinda like a cop out of a new major choice. The only real impactful moment to me was when Caroline died and Engel paraded her head and when Super Spesh was shot and when BJ was captured. Other than that the game seemed to take a fun approach to the story which isn't really that awful but I felt a little less engaged but there are still minor cut scenes that tackle issues about judging people where Sigrun who was a formor Nazi does not want to be called a Nazi by Grace who still calls her a Nazi after she defects which is ironic since the critics of this game who think it is SJW bull crap but anyway. Overall the shooting and gameplay are very fun and exciting and the story is slightly less engaging but overall a fun game if a bit short and I do have a gripe with the game which is you can not go back and play older missions instead opting to travel back to select areas where you can collect stuff which is annoying if you didn't get the select collectibles which now are unobtainable which is a minor annoyance but the game is still a wonder run and gun game full of upgrades and interesting settings and characters even if they are a bit brief. I still find myself going back and playing even though I finished the story.

After about a year to let the game sit i start to notice the game's flaws and it took some others to open my eyes to the flaws of the game as i was blinded by the high action parts of the game. I was most annoyed by the lack of a chapter selector after the game. The sub missions were ok but left a lot to be desired. In the new order it was great to go back with the under barrel rocket launder and play some of the levels to get the collectibles and such. Now you can only get some and its very annoying to cherry pick certain collectibles on another profile. playing through the painfully short game when you skip the cut scenes. The game has great gun play and runs fantastically on xbox one s it seems to run at a nice 60 fps consistently any it has a variety of combat situations and enemies which react differently with different upgrades and i like that but it seems like the game doesnt really want you to run and gun giving a dedicated lean mechanic on the controller and if you go for kill animations you will have your health and armor drained if you are in the open which sucks considering its roots as the original run and gun shooter. It was disappointing after the great success of Doom 2016 following wolfenstien the new order bringing it back to the roots but this game feels more watered down on the run and gun. If it werent for the fantastic contraptions that can really shake up the combat it would be really painful to play through. The story is also kind of iffy as it romanticizes the extremist groups of the real world making them sound better than the Nazis when the Communists were the same if not worse than the Nazis and the radical black resistance group that make all white people sound like they are Nazis. I feel that it gets better near the end of the game where they learn to exist together. I'd say its a good game to borrow or rent not buy.

I couldn't get into this one that much, but at the same time I really couldn't put the game down too. Wolfenstein 2 is a generic FPS with not much creativity. The game play is fun, but really repetitive after awhile. The campaign is longer than a stander FPS along with some side mission, but their's not a whole lot to do after that. I wait for a price drop.

It's a solid game, with a solid story, solid soundtrack, solid gameplay and meh replayability. That's it. This game isn't anything special, and I would hesitate to call it a 60$ game. But overall, it's fine.

The game has good dialogue, graphics and gameplay but that's about it. Repetitive end game side missions, a story that felt somewhat rushed and odd gameplay decision go against the improvements made in the game. Don't get me wrong the gameplay is good but it's just not as good as it could have been.

I think the mild disappointment I feel about the newer Wolfenstein games is a matter of taste. As a Jewish American, the power fantasy of mowing down Nazis in the original Wolfenstein was intoxicating. That same cultural identity is what makes the newer games a depressing slog for me. This game is extremely well made, I just can't say that it's any fun.

    - 60 fps
    No for the cons:
    - The main problem with this game is that it has an identity crisis, simply put it the game doesn’t know what it wants to be. It feels like a run and gun, plays like a run and gun (60 % of the time) with fast paced movement and 2 weapons at the same time but essentially, it’s not run and gun. Large portions of the game better be played stealthy but sometimes you just want to go in guns blazing and you get obliterated in seconds:
    - Difficulty, to fully enjoy the game I had to go for the lowest difficulty setting
    - Stealth sucks, it just sucks, enemies see you when they shouldn’t and cover mechanic doesn’t help either.
    - Weapon wheel is clunky and just doesn’t feel right
    - Technical issues like constant stuttering before the cutscenes
    - Low res textures every now and then
    - Picking up armor, weapons and ammo is a mess, you have to be precise for auto pickup and pressing X every time in the middle of an intense fight doesn’t’ help either
Overall I’m a bit disappointed, good thing I have it on the game pass.

Wolfenstein II: The New Order is almost great but is held back by a number of issues. A few design choices Machine Games made far too often took me out of the game and frustrated me to no end. For such a great feeling game, the lack of damage indicators to and from enemies made the game feel off far too many times. An outdated health system forced me to play the game differently than I wanted to. Instead of the clear intent at fast paced chaotic action the game does so well, I was too often hiding behind cover, scouring for health packs, and dying in seconds due to frequent difficulty spikes. Even with these issues, I still had an overall positive experience with the game due to strong story beats and chaotic moment to moment action. Wolfenstein II is a game I would recommend to anyone but is a game that may leave you feeling a bit frustrated in the end.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus brings gamers around the world and single player, first person shooter that delivers a fantastic storyline, beautiful graphics, and an experience that is hard to surpass on any platform. Bethesda and MachineGames have done a tremendous job in showcasing evil exists in the world, the fight that good people have to go through to prevent this evil from taking hold, and what happens when good people do absolutely nothing. This game is easily a contender for game of the year, with only a few shortcomings, and I expect to see Wolfenstein II make a serious case for why they deserve the crown.
