Mar 15, 2015The unique look, atmospheric sound, and everything else come together to create an experience that, in the end, is more than the sum of its parts, and makes trying out the game worthwhile, especially if you're a fan of old horror games.
-
Mar 17, 2015It’s a busy game that’s a failure in many ways, but its art direction and story perfect the eerie atmosphere of the genre, and make the experience tolerable, even when the writing and game design let it down. Like the crack of moon through a black-cloud storm, White Night is a game as fragile as the light.
-
Mar 9, 2015If not for the unique film noir storytelling combined with a stylized black and white look, White Night could have been one of the more forgettable survival horror games of 2015. Unfair enemies and camera issues dampens an experience which otherwise should have been much better than the sum of its parts.
-
Mar 13, 2015Sadly, the good game you can imagine is stuck lurking in the shadows of the game it became.
-
Mar 13, 2015A tad more polish would have seen this become a real benchmark for the genre, but a number of missed steps mean that it will likely just fade into the darkness.
-
Mar 9, 2015The bones of a decent procedural horror game are buried under roughly six feet of frustrating fixed camera angles, insta-death, and bad checkpointing. Ultimately, it’s just not that much fun being a detective in the dark.
-
Mar 6, 2015More bogus than Bogart, White Night fuses the disparate worlds of cultured noir and trashy supernatural. The result? An inconsistent – if visually striking – trudge. A true hammy horror.
